TWoL turns a century today, that’s right we’ve done ONE HUNDRED episodes and that doesn’t count the twenty or so special reports! For our big episode we decided to gather the whole crew together, from the OG crew of Steve and myself to Noob Laura, Emilie, Toonces, and now Katie. We’d also like to mention that providing TWoL for the past 2.5 years has been a ton of fun but it also comes at a cost. It was a bit crowded both with people and with news to talk about, so let’s dive right in! As the title eludes to this week is all about the rumor mill and first up on this list is Phish in Vegas. Nick has a “sourcey source” that has kangfirmed Vegas was originally booked but has since been cancelled. While this source did not provide a reason it’s safe to say that today is Feb 7th and for the sake of planning and selling tickets an April Fools Vegas weekend run is not going to happen.

As it stands today there are two festivals with Phish rumors surrounding them. The first, and most likely of the two, is Atlantic City in June. Some city council members have already spilled the beans and mentioned that Phish would play at a 2 day concert there this summer and the rumor only seems to get stronger as time goes on. The newest point of contention seems not to be if this festival is happening but if camping will be an option. Personally for my tastes you couldn’t pay me enough money to sleep in an Atlantic City field, but to each brah their own.

The 2nd festival that has been thrown around is Bonnaroo and now there is even a rumor about Phish playing a sunrise set. Basically the whole TWoL crew is not convinced that Bonnaroo is going to happen but if it does Nick will be flying solo and staying in a VIP RV. So there’s that…

Bethel, Portsmouth, and Deer Creek are also heavily rumored venues for Phish this summer. While Bethel and Portsmouth are likely, Deer Creek is the only that is pretty much kangfirmed. The official twitter account for the venue tweeted that Phish would be playing 2 nights this Summer but didn’t say which ones. Deer Creek has some serious history with Phish and they almost always seem to bring their A game so it’s good to see they will return.

In untz, bluegrass, dance, improv news EOTO has announced a new tour that kicks off in Boston, MA. Apparently there is also going to be a h3tty 3D mapped screen setup, see the tour link for more details on what will actually happen. If you’re on the east coast this weekend make sure to check this show out!

The Hang Out Festival kicks off in May down in Alabama and the lineup looks pretty solid. Also you get to party right on the beach and who doesn’t want to do that? The Electric Forest Festival has also been announced and the VIP sounds uber h3tty, you can actually stay in an air conditioned cabin. Forget renting and driving an RV, now you can stay in a hotel like atmosphere right on site.

The Earwolf guys have been doing a few podcasts about Phish, mainly Harris trying to get Scott to experience a show and come to like them. So far they’ve done 4 episodes you can find the latest one on their site. It doesn’t exactly paint Phish (and their fans) in the best light but take it for what it’s worth.

Four hosts, Steve, Emilie, Toonces and Katie, came out to celebrate our 99th Episode tonight.  In case you missed his awesome special report from the boat Steve gave us a quick rundown of his Jamcruise experience.  Dressing up at shows people, it’s the new black.

We quickly moved on to Emilie so she could run out and catch the superfly Rick James & the Name Changers.  Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook to hear updates from all her upcoming New England area shows.

Next Steve and I talked about the Umphrey’s McGee 14th Anniversary run last week in NYC.  Umphrey’s is on fire right now, if the scarcity of tickets outside was any indication.  Toonces also reported what sounds like a fantastic Railroad Earth show down in Virginia last weekend.

We had one voicemail this week, discussing a rather unfortunate experience in NYC following the YEMSG run.  We wanna hear about your 2012 shows!  Call us anytime at 419.NO.WOOKS.

Finally, of course, we discussed Phish rumors.  With so many floating around right now (Bethel, Atlantic City, Vegas…) who knows what is true.  But it is probably time to start booking refundable hotel rooms!  Also, it’s time to start planning your summer festival schedule.  On the TWoL radar:  Camp Bisco, Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes and Floyd Fest.  Finally, we look ahead to 2013. These kids wanna go to Mayan Holidaze and need an in!  Let’s make a deal…

Well, TWoL is back on land and we are happy to report that a great time was had by all. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Scott Bernstein from Hidden Track and Neil “The Joker” FonteYes from Coventry Music Blog in my balcony cabin on the final day of the cruise. The three of us covered a little slice of everything: from the pre-shows in Fort Lauderdale, to the layout of the stages, to the ports of call, and of course the musical highlights. We all had been on the boat before, and as is popular opinion, agreed this was the “best year yet.” No surprise, we ultimately recommend that everyone goes at least once. However, that doesn’t mean this episode is all fluff. There is always room for some improvement, and we end the episode with advice for newbies and what we would like to see different in the coming years.

Katie here, just got an update from Steve and Noob Laura who are currently pulling away from Jamaica on Jam Cruise.  Steve sent along a ton of pictures and a few quick impressions of the music to whet our appetites before he can give his full report next week.

Seems like boat life is pretty sweet.  A room at the back of the boat with a balcony is a win.  Food situation is acceptable, better than anticipated.

Night 1 featured Break Science, Umphrey’s, Heavy Pets and Lettuce.

On Day 2 there were a variety of panels and plenty of time for the gang to play with moogs and theramins (amazing!).  Zach Deputy played with members of Toubab Krewe and Railroad Earth, but Galactic and EOTO apparently owned Night 2, which also featured a zebra theme.

Day 3 the boat hit Haiti.  Musical highlights included the Omega Moos, Ozomatli with Karl Denson, Soulive, Col. Bruce Hampton holding it down in the Jam Room, and Trombone Shorty.

That’s all for now kids but there’s plenty more Jam Cruise to come.  We’ll keep you posted with any more updates in case you weren’t all jealous enough already.

And just like that, YEMSG is over.  But we still wanna talk about it.  This week, Steve, Katie and Toonces tackle some hard hitting news topics:  the ticket situation, the rainbow unicorn army, new MSG layout and security, train tacos, and other stuff that also happened.  Musically this may have not been the best run of the year, but the MSG party never disappoints.

Thanks to the listeners who called in from Phish, moe., and STS9.  We still wanna hear about all the other NYE shows across the land.  It’s never to late to call in a lot report at 419.NO.WOOKS.

In other news, Phil Lesh finally found a home for his ramble style Terrapin Crossroads.  The first performances are scheduled for March 2012.  Road trip anyone??

Led Zeppelin cover band extraordinaire Bustle in Your Hedgerow returns to Brooklyn Bowl on January 26th and 27th.  Featuring Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Scott Metzger and Joe Russo, this is a Brooklyn tradition not to be missed!

And finally, Jam Cruise anticipation has reached fever pitch!  Steve and Noob Laura sail this Monday so stay tuned for updates and special reports from the boat.

New Years is right around on the corner and another year of TWoL is nearly under our belts. Thank you so much to those that have supported us and continue to support us, we appreciate you one and all!

This weeks’ episode we recap the upcoming New Years shows, specifically the Phish MSG run. So far there have been multiple rereleases of tickets for the sold out shows and unlike previous rerelease the announcements for them came from the official Phish twitter account. What does this mean? Is the Phish organization holding back more tickets for rereleases to prevent scalping? Did they simply hold back too many tickets on accident? All we know for sure is that more tickets are getting into fans hands and staying out of the scalpers and that’s a good thing.

The next few weeks full TWoL episodes will be on hiatus as we attend the Phish MSG shows, Disco Biscuits, and Jam Cruise. That doesn’t mean there won’t be updates though. We plan on tweeting from all shows and releasing special update reports so make sure to keep it locked on the TWoL twitter account, iTunes subscriptions, and the TWoL blog.

Make sure to leave us your lot reports from all the NYE shows you attend, we’ll play all of them once we get back to a full episode mid January. Hope everyone has a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Xmas, and Crazy Kwanza! We’ll see you in a few weeks!

This week on lot Steve, Katie and Toonces learned that Phish is not the only band playing on NYE.  Who knew?  We discuss Hidden Track’s extensive run down of NYE shows across the land.  And remember, TWoL wants to hear about all of your NYE shenanigans so leave us a lot report at 419.NO.WOOKS in all of your tipsy NYE glory.  If you are in NYC for Phish, Mule or AoD don’t forget about the variety of Phish after parties going on around the city.

During ticket check we were left speechless when we learned that YEMSG tickets are going for as much as $250,000.  Since this is clearly not an option, don’t forget that you can enter to win NYE tickets from both Cash or Trade and Magic Hat.  Toonces also brought a listener question to the table about how to tell if you are being scammed in secondary market ticket sales.

Next, we discussed some 2012 festival news.  It’s never to early to start planning your summer festie season kids.  One of the earliest festivals of the year is Some Kind of Jam 7, held in late April in PA.  Wakarusa tickets went on sale last weekend.  Check out that one, scheduled for May 31-June 3 in AR.  Also, Summer Camp, returning to IL on Memorial Day weekend, will begin announcing its line up this week.

We had fantastic lot reports this week from SCI, Cornmeal, and Skydog.   And we of course talked about our recent shows:  moe., SCI, 311 and Big Gigantic.

Also, check out the Kickstarter fundraiser to get the Everyone Orchestra album made.  The album features a ton of our favorite musicians and promises to be a great example of true improvisation.

We have Steve, Nick, and Emilie this week. Emilie is back on the carnivore side and has kicked the veggie lifestyle to the curb, hence our episode title for the week. Chicken waaangs are an amazing thing in everyday life but after you haven’t had them for a year? You better believe they are amazing.

But I digress, on to this weeks news. Let’s start with Trey news as there was a few things this week. Trey has announced an Orchestra Tour with three dates in Feb and one in March spread across the country. He’s also  recording a new solo album with the members of TAB and has noted he will be “taking a whole new direction” for this album, whatever that means. The TWoL crew is divided on whether or not this will be a good album. Personally I think it will work out in the end but only time will tell.

Moving along to Phish news, Watkins Glen track official Ryan Lake has announced that the venue will focus on racing events for 2012 so no return for a festival this year. While not shocking that Phish is not playing there again so soon, it doesn’t mean they won’t return in the future. The majority of TWoL attend Superball so we’re really hoping for a return sometime in the future. In our last bit of Phish news we would like to point out the many after-shows for each night of the MSG run. If you managed not to wook-out at the main event we hope to see you late night!

Even though it’s nearly winter there is still some festival news this week. All Good has announced they will move from their WV location to Legend Valley in Ohio. Legend Valley (formerly Buckeye Lake) has hosted many amazing bands, festivals, and concerts over the years. In a period where most festivals only last a short time TWoL gives kudos to All Good for 16 years of jamband love.

As of right now Jam Cruise 10 takes off in 39 days and if you don’t have your tickets well you’re pretty screwed cause it’s sold out. But…not to fret! Jam Cruise 11 prebooking starts Dec 1st so you can always go next time!

This week on lot, the podcast moved into the future and used our video capabilities during the show.  Much to our dismay, this means we learned that Nick’s lucky show attire is a “wife-beater.”  An American choice for sure, but now I have that image forever burned into my brain.

Excitingly, we also had a special guest this week:  Andrew (aka “the Canadian”) from Glow Stick Wars!  For those of you who have been living under a rock, Glow Stick Wars has one Phish NYE ticket that they are giving away.  Check out the contest rules here.  Andrew also weighed on more general issues surrounding glow sticks, including the plan to have a Pre-Show Glow Stick War on the 28th as the boys hit the stage and the debate over the environmental side effects of glow stick wars.

Moving right along to Steve’s favorite topic:  Jamcruise.  The schedule is up!  Check out the themes, special events, activities, workshops and more.

YEMSG after parties are being announced almost daily at this point but make sure to check out Dog Gone Blog’s after party with Superhuman Happiness at the Cakeshop on December 30th.

In Umphrey’s news, the band announced a string of 2012 tour dates across the country for February and March as well as a sUMmer school event in August.  This camping event, aimed at aspiring musicians, will feature workshops with the band as well as performances by them.

Surrender to the Flow will be hosting Phish Yoga in NYC this Thursday, November 17th.  Get your mind and body right for YEMSG for just $20.
