TWoL 122: STFU

Listen to Episode 122

We’re not gonna lie. It was a tough night, kids.  A slew of technical difficulties almost kept us from getting an episode on the books.  Some perseverance from UNO finally got us off the ground a little over an hour behind schedule.  Get that man a cigarette!

We dove right in to the news stories with a nod to our show’s title.  You don’t want to get on Bobby’s bad side and we here at TWoL are in agreement with him.  In other news we broke down the lineups for Camp Bisco, All Good, and Big Up and take a look at the Bowlive IV guests.  Furthur has sold out 8 nights at the Cap and if you find yourself there you just might get questioned by DanMar.  We’ll let her explain why.  In other tour news, we’re “Still Waiting” for those Phish dates but SCI and WSP fans have something to shout about.

Tech News Tidbit: get on those Umphrey’s free ringtones this week.

After two nice voicemails (keep ‘em coming!) we debuted a new segment: Ask DanMar.  This one already looks to be promising and we can’t wait to have the next batch of questions answered. If you want DanMar to answer your questions, (any and all questions) send inquiries to:

Have a great week and see you soon!

Special Report: Mayan Holidaze 2012 (podcast)

Listen to Special Report Mayan Holidaze

We got a little delayed by YEMSG but in good old “better late than never” style we are happy to present you with our special report from Mayan Holidaze. On this episode we welcomed first time guest, Laura K. (aka @glitterfairee). Laura, Steve and I survived the Apocalypse and the “Biggest Wook Party in the World” and now we are here to give you the inside scoop. This festival, thrown by Cloud 9, The Disco Biscuits, Umphrey’s McGee and STS9, was the first Holidaze for all three of us. In this episode we attempted to sum up our thoughts about this unique festie experience. We tackled travel, the resort, the food, the music and gave our suggestions for future Holidaze. For photos and more of Steve‘s thoughts from Holidaze check out our Facebook page and the blogs he wrote during the festie. If you were at Holidaze please leave us a comment here or call us at 419.NO.WOOKS and share your thoughts/memories. And as always, stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter to follow our adventures in real time.

Happy New Year everyone! Be well!

Mayan Holidaze – 2012 (blog)

The New Camp Bisco – posted 12/24/12

We made it back safe and sound. Good times were had, and we plan on giving a proper “special report”. Expect to see something Wednesday or Thursday night. Lots of pics on Facebook in the meantime.

Cheers!

Holidaze: Don’t Lose Your Wristband – posted 12/19/2012

Well, it’s day 3 here in Mexico. The TWoL crew is a little sun burnt but the good times continue. Due to continued wonky tronz, just thought we’d give a quick update.  (Super quick, will save full review for the normal podcast).

- Cloud 9 is crushing it keeping everyone happy and safe here. We have reports have people who tried to wook there way onto the resort from Strings and Sol, got busted, and were removed.

- Also, ocean currents can get pretty dangerous at times. Resort staff are constantly making sure no one drifts away.

- Beyond the bar staff being worked to the bone keeping the booze flowing, they also send waiters with random drinks through the crowd during the shows. Didn’t expect this and its pretty sweet. You could literally drink a 1,000 beers.

- Lunch and dinner here is good to above average. Breakfast and late night get a meh. (Just keeping things real.)

- Umphrey’s crushed it last night. Period.

- We aren’t doing any excursions, so nothing to report back on that. Also, photos and updates will be sporadic. This is a vacation after all.

Talk to y’all soon.

-Steve

Holidaze: The First 24 – posted 12/18/12

This following is review of the scene here at Mayan Holidaze. It is written, obviously, from my perspective, but I attempt to address what I believe the average reader would imagine occurs at this festival.

It’s no surprise to any regular listener of the podcast that I’m the resident Bisco lover at the TWoL studio. I saw them play an afternoon set at the Summer Sun Music Festival in 1998 and have hit my fair share of Camp Biscos, New Years, and few shows in between. Bundle that with living in the Northeast and being in my mid-30’s, you can probably fit me into a dying breed of fan for this scene. It seems that while the Phish fan base evolved with me on some level, Bisco fans hold steady as younger and more in line with EDM (Electronic Dance Music) culture.

And it’s the stereotypical EDM fan whom I would believe most people picture being here.  The early 20-something in a flat brimmed hat, with a heady crystal and fly kicks. There would be rage sticks, laser pointers, and chicks in those animal hat things. This is what Camp Bisco and many other festivals have become, which all well and fine. Except with that comes a division between those who just want to party and those who come for the music. So personally, I was not worried to find that contingent here. It’s too costly and the lineup is too small.

So who actually does make up this crowd of 1,000 guests on site and 300 with day pass privileges? Well, it’s really neither of the above mentioned demographics. With a fair amount of confidence, I’d most people here are late 20’s / early 30’s, they love the bands headlining, and they are all really friendly. Everyone I’ve chatted with so far has been stated Bisco as their main reason for coming, with a surprising low number of UM fans. Perhaps after Umphrey’s takes the stage tonight I’ll have a different report, but for now that has been the story (which is honestly surprising to me).

The feel to this place is very organic. There are no rage sticks, laser pointers, or LED hoola hoops. I haven’t come across any passed out wooks or noticed the Safety Team having to rescue anyone. Not that I personally expected to see this, but it’s worth noting as the above have become all too common at a lot of festivals these days. All that said, yes there are a lot of flat brims, dreadlocks, and more tattoos than I could count. But there are babies too. A lot of babies. I definitely wouldn’t envy a single guy here, as all the chicks seem taken. Sorry packs of bros!

So as I type this poolside, drinking a margarita, I’m excited for day 2. The crowd here is unique, but friendly and here for the right reasons. By today, everyone should have finally arrived and the music and activities get into full swing. Last night was just an appetizer and everyone is definitely hungry for more. I’ll plan to report back again tomorrow with some thoughts on the Resort itself and the overall Cloud 9 production. In the meantime, you can follow along with updates and pics from our Twitter and Facebook feed.

Thanks for listening,
Steve

TWoL 108: Steve and Pete

Listen to Episode 108

I’m gonna keep this post short.

It’s myself and PhanArt. He’s been on many a TWoL before. We talk about his recent trip to Hangout Fest and my trip to the Googa Mooga. We run through your voice mails. There’s some deep analysis re: Phish tour > tickets, the poster show, and tweetups. Lastly, no Steve/Pete TWoL would be complete without all the necessary Bisco updates. What does this mean for you?  Laughter. Tears. Awkward moments.

Thanks for listening, see you on tour.

TWoL 97: Emilie’s Pink Jingle Balls

Listen to Episode 97

New Years is right around on the corner and another year of TWoL is nearly under our belts. Thank you so much to those that have supported us and continue to support us, we appreciate you one and all!

This weeks’ episode we recap the upcoming New Years shows, specifically the Phish MSG run. So far there have been multiple rereleases of tickets for the sold out shows and unlike previous rerelease the announcements for them came from the official Phish twitter account. What does this mean? Is the Phish organization holding back more tickets for rereleases to prevent scalping? Did they simply hold back too many tickets on accident? All we know for sure is that more tickets are getting into fans hands and staying out of the scalpers and that’s a good thing.

The next few weeks full TWoL episodes will be on hiatus as we attend the Phish MSG shows, Disco Biscuits, and Jam Cruise. That doesn’t mean there won’t be updates though. We plan on tweeting from all shows and releasing special update reports so make sure to keep it locked on the TWoL twitter account, iTunes subscriptions, and the TWoL blog.

Make sure to leave us your lot reports from all the NYE shows you attend, we’ll play all of them once we get back to a full episode mid January. Hope everyone has a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Xmas, and Crazy Kwanza! We’ll see you in a few weeks!

PS: Here are the links for the Jamcruise tips and Jazz Fest Lineup with Travel Packages.

TWoL 86: Jesus Rap!

Listen to Episode 86

This week we had one-half of the duo who are responsible for CashorTrade.org and LiveMusicMatch.com, welcome Brando! Make sure to check out Cash or Trade if you need/have a ticket for face or want to sell, that’s the place to go. If you’re interesting in meet a love interest or just making friends that are into the jamband scene then check out Live Music Match.

Big news of the week is that Ticketmaster and Facebook struck a deal. They are now offering a social experience where you can see what tickets your friends have already purchased. If the show isn’t sold out this could be kind of cool, the TWoL crew is on the fence on this one.

In untz news The Disco Biscuits are hitting up Vegas after the Identity festival. Will Nick go and get his untz on? Will he finally accept the flatbrims for who they are? Only time will tell.

moe. announced a few shows in New York near Thanksgiving. They will be throwing down with Dumpstahphunk opening up for them. Should be a great time!

To end our Phish coverage for the 3rd leg ( and maybe for the year) there will be a webcast this weekend of the Colorado shows. You can buy each night individually or a 3 night package. Kind of interesting that they are offering this webcast, it’s the first time they’ve done so for shows that aren’t sold out.

We’re a little sad here at TWoL, we didn’t receive any voicemails this week. What’s with that??? Make sure if you’re out and about this weekend at the Colorado Phish shows or any show in general you leave us a lot report.

Thanks everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

- Nick

TWoL 72: There’s vomit where my tent should be!

Listen to Episode 72

No guest this week but we run through some announcements, voicemails, and a story about a boy and his tent and where it should have been.

Jam Cruise 10 lineup was released, the lineup looks pretty solid. Only thing to complain about this year is there are only 2 stops scheduled. Both in cities we haven’t really heard of or understand. If you’ve got some experience with these cities leave us a comment on the blog or a voicemail as we would love feedback.

We’ve been covering a lot of the “untz” lately and this episode is no different. There were some more additions added to Camp Bisco 10. Pack your flatbrim and get ready to dance your ass off till the sunrise!

There’s a new festival  with a new concept called Identity. All the details haven’t been released yet but the basic concept is a group of electronic style bands are going to get together and play venues that they normally wouldn’t be able to fill on their. So far tDB, Pretty Lights, and DJ Shadow have been announced as participants. More bands are expected as well as more details, stay tuned.

The Finger Lakes Grass Roots Festival has been announced. This festival has been going on for over 20 years, TWoL recommends checking it out if you can. Don’t forget to leave us a lot report if you do!

Finally we get around to the story about a boy, his tent, and a pile of wook vomit. Unfortunately it happened to TWoLs’ very own Steve this last weekend at the Jibberjazz festival. The festival was great, but the wookery was not. Better luck next time Steve!

As always we go through all the voicemails we receive, thank you to all that left us one! The number to the voicemail box is 419-NO-WOOKS make sure to hit us up if you see any live music or if you’re just bored and wanna vent.

Last but not least we have a poll running right now, make sure to leave your vote on how you did with Phish leg 2 onsale. You can either click this link to get to the poll or scroll down in your browser.

Thank you everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 71: (Insert Rant Here)

Listen to Episode 71

There isn’t too much going on this week so this episode was basically a lot of ranting so take it with a grain of salt.

One of the points we did cover was the Railroad Earth show at the Wellmont Theater. Steve is planning on hitting this show up so make sure to keep an eye on the TWoL twitter feed for lot updates. If you are in the area, be sure to come out. Not only is it their 10th anniversary show, Jackie Greene will be supporting.

We also saw that Phish announced the details for their volunteer program at SuperBall IX. Basically you have to give them your credit card and have a “hold” put on it. Once you prove you’re not a total spunion or crusty wook and actually work your shift the hold is removed and alas you see the show for $15.

Lastly we would like to point out that there are only 30 VIP tickets for Friday at Gathering Of The Vibes. Better snag a ticket kick brahs and sisbrahs as these are going quick!

Be good kids! We’ll see you on lot next week.

TWoL 70: #Umphreys

Listen to Episode 70

We spend a lot of time around here focusing on Phish and The Disco Biscuits, this week it’s all about Umphrey’s McGee!

Our guests this week are Benjamin Slayter, photograph extraordinaire, and Kevin Browning, Umphrey’s McGee engineer & producer. We talk through the UMBowl II experience with the guys and find out what it’s like to experience this unique event. For an indepth review of the show see this review with some great photographs. It’s all things UM this week, Steve and Laura even share a little love story that takes place at a UM show.

If you want to check out UM you can find their tour schedule here. It kicks off today at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, TX. If you’re out and about on this “unofficial holiday” hit up some great music and then satisfy your munchies with some BBQ.

Lastly we run through your voicemails, thank you to everyone who left us a message. Don’t forget to keep them coming, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.

Thank you to all our supporters and fans, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 69: This podcast will slice you on the nipple!

Listen to Episode 69

Tons of things were discussed on the podcast this week, let’s get right to it!

Adam from Phish.net was back on the show again to unveil some new features of their website. Take a listen to find out what’s new.

Phish announced the 2nd leg of their summer tour. Looks like the west coast is finally getting some love. Highlights of the tour include 2 nights at The Gorge, and 2 sets at the Outside Lands musical festival in San Francisco.

Speaking of Phish, looks like we’re having a repeat of  last year where scalpers are advertising Phish tickets before they are even available through the lottery or on sale. This time the culprit is Ticket Network.  Please feel free to give them a piece of your mind on twitter, their handle is @TicketNetwork.

In our last piece of Phish news it looks like there’s finally a flat breezy for all you untz loving Phish fans. This item is not on Phish Dry Goods website so this might not even be real. If you want to take a look at the rumored flat brim hat check out this link.

Prince is taking a page from his last tour at MSG and has booked 21 nights at the forum in LA. That’s a whole lot of high heels and scarves he’s going to have to lug out west.

For you creatures of the night, Bonnaroo has announced their late night bands. There’s something for everyone in this lineup.

Furthur also announced their summer tour this week. If you ask us it’s pretty damn ambitious, they have booked nearly every big shed this summer.

After nearly 12 years The New Deal is calling it quits. You can catch them on their farewell tour this summer. Goodbye and good luck guys!

We run through the voicemails and even manage to answer some travel questions for a fan this week. Thank you to everyone who left us a message, keep them coming!

Thank you for the support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 64: Fat Tuesday!

Listen to Episode 64

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone, hope you all are listening to some New Orleans style jazz today!

We’re switching up the format on TWoL and going in more of a rotation format for hosts similar to what we’re doing for type ii cast. This weeks episode brings a long time lot reporter and former guest Stephen aka Toonces to TWoL. Steve and Nick will remain constants while Toonces, Emilie, and Noob Laura will be guest hosts from time to time.

Not too much going in the jamband community news this week unless you’re living in or near Florida. FL had two festival announcements, first the Wanee Festival has been revealed. The Wanee festival looks like a lot of rock n’ roll with some funk and a dash of untz sprinkled in. It’s being held April 14-16th so if you’re in Florida we suggest you go and celebrate tax day weekend by blowing some money on some music!

Florida also is hosting the Langerado Festival again this year. Some of you may remember this festival from years past. It’s had an up and down history with the most recent version of the festival in 2009 being canceled due to poor ticket sales. It’s back again this year and we wish them the best of luck. The interesting thing about this festival is that early-bird tickets go on sale tomorrow (March 9th) for $75 but no bands have been announced yet. The festival isn’t until Oct. 8-9 and regular price tickets go on sale June 1st with the price doubling to $150. TWoL recommends if you even think you are going to this festival, buy the early-bird tickets, it’s a great deal.

Summing up this weeks jamband news is The Disco Biscuits “Camp Bisco Badge Program” announcement.  Basically this fan fueled contest is designed as a modern-day street team using social media as the street corner and bar room poster board. Any fans that link their twitter and Facebook accounts to Camp Bisco will receive special notices about contests that can earn you points that can be used for prizes, even the possibility of VIP tickets. Well played Bisco, this is a very “hip” promotion and is using modern-day tools in a fun and interactive way.

As always we run through listener voicemails. Thank you to everyone who left us a lot report, remember we can’t be everywhere at once so please keep them coming!

In other news the Phish lottery has ended and the word on the street is that if you put in a for a lottery request you got tickets. TWoL is getting reports that nearly everyone had their lottery request filled and with mostly pavilion tickets. If you put in for the lottery please let us know how you did by leaving us a comment on the blog or leaving us a voicemail, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.

In more Phish news all hotels within a 40 minute radius of the tour opening Bethel shows are sold out completely. But not to fear TWoL has got your back! We were able to find several  camping locations that as of today still have spots available. We highly recommend you contact them yourselves to confirm and reserve availability. The last thing you want to be doing is wooking it up and asking to crash on someones h3tty floorspace. The campgrounds are listed below:

Kittatinny Northeast Campsites

Lander’s River Trips (this site actually list multiple campgrounds)

Upper Delaware Campgrounds (this site actually list multiple campgrounds)

Next week we will be reviewing PNC, the lot, hotels, what to do and not to do, so stay tuned for that!

Before we leave you we also wanted to pose a question to our listeners. As it’s currently Lent right now, have you ever given up anything Jamband related for Lent? If so please leave us a comment on the blog or a voicemail and let us know.

Thank you again to all our listeners we appreciate your support! We’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 63: Dust off your tent

Listen to Episode 63

Dust off your tent because it’s festival time! Lots of festival announcements and news this week, let’s get right to it!

The initial lineup for High Sierra Music Festival was announced! Looks like MMJ and Ween are headliners.

The heavily rumored Dave Matthews Band festival appearances are starting to get some more press. They are rumored to be in Atlantic City at Bader Field on June 24-26th according to jambands.com.

The Electric Forest Festival headlined by String Cheese Incident is taking place in Rothbury, MI. The lineup seems to be a bit all over the place but diversity is a good thing so take it or leave it.

The Rock n Roll Resort festival is kicking off the festival season. This unique festival combines the cost of your hotel (all shows are held on the hotel grounds) with your admission to the festival. Next to a state park this festival offers amazing scenic views and outdoor opportunities while being able to sleep in comfort and style. This festival is also a good way to start into the spring/summer musical spirit as it’s being held April 1-3 in Kerhonkson, NY.

Bisco Inferno is back again this year at Red Rocks. Come get your untz on in one of the nations most scenic parks!

If Bisco Inferno wasn’t enough untz and electronica for you then make sure you check out The Governors Ball Music Festival.

Now that we have all the festival announcements out of the way, save the official Phish announcement of Wakins Glen, let’s get to some other news.

Phish.net has starting tracking and posting Sideshows from the different members of Phish. Basically this will keep track of setlists from the personal projects of the members of Phish. The initiative is still a work in progress but we look forward to it. Thanks to everyone at Phish.net for all the work you put in, it’s truly appreciated! Also, they have a sweet Cactus contest running right now.

Target has starting selling a womens Phish shirt. Surprisingly enough it appears PT has not yet got wind of this as there are no douchebag comments left on the reviews. Either that or Target regulates their comments and reviews very strictly. In any event happy shopping ladies!

Last but not least we run through all the voicemails we had leftover from last week. Thank you to everyone that left a report!

We’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 59: The Search for Jared’s Wedding Band

Listen to Episode 59

We have several guests this week and a fully packed episode!

Our first guest is Johnny from BandsThatJam.com. Johnny is one of the writers for their website and was kind enough to come on the show to discuss a recent blog that caused some controversy. BandsThatJam.com made an announcement on their website that was nearly confirming the festival and offering up very specific details. Unnamed sources close to BTJ claim that a contract has been signed and the festival will be held the weekend of July 4th. They go on to state that tickets will be $200 and include 8 sets of music starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. Johnny goes into more details about their decision to post the confirmation of the festival before Phish.com does. You’ll have to listen to the podcast for full details.

Next we speak with Steve and Jared from Groupme.com. Groupme.com is a free service that allows multiple users to set up a text group to communicate with each other. It’s an amazingly useful service and one that TWoL is excited about. We’ve used this service twice now, once in Atlantic City for the Phish Halloween run and again in NYC for the New Years Eve run. It’s a great way to send a mass text to your crew by texting one number. It’s really easy to use if you can text from your phone you can use this service. The Groupme guys are on their way up, they’ve been involved as a mobile partner for the Austin City Limits festival as well as the Coachella festival. We can’t wait to see what they do next!

Rumors! Rumors! Rumors! There’s a lot of rumors surrounding the jamband community right now. Most of them are related to Phish and Dave Matthews Band. DMB and Phish are both rumored to be playing a music festival in Atlantic City this summer. Check out a link to the festival announcement here. With the Watkins Glen, NY rumor we covered earlier we’re pretty hesitant to say Phish will play but stranger things have happened.

Page and Fishman will be playing a benefit at Higher Ground in Vermont on February 3rd. The benefit is for Pete’s Greens, an organic farm that was recent damaged but a fire. Many other Vermont musicians are also rumored to be playing the benefit.

Florida is also getting in on the festival scene with the 15th annual Suwannee Springfest. This festival is packed full of lots of great bluegrass bands. If you’re in the area make sure to hit this festival and don’t forget to leave us a lot report!

In untz news, The Disco Biscuits have been listed in the lineup for the Ultra Music Festival. This festival includes many different acts, there’s something for everyone. For details on the festival and for tickets check out this link.

We received a heads up on this YouTube video poking fun at “Bro’s” from one of our listeners. We thought it was pretty funny so here’s a link if you want to check it out.

Last but never least we run through voicemails for this week. Thank you to everyone who left us a voicemail! We can’t be everywhere at once so make sure when you’re out on the scene you let us know what’s going on. 419-NO-WOOKS (419-669-6657) is the number program it in your phone.

Thank you again to our guests, Johnny, Steve, and Jared! Thank you also to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 57: Mustard is Better!

Listen to Episode 57

This week we have a very special guest, Adam from Phish.net. For anyone has been living on the moon Phish.net is basically the one stop for all things Phish related. They’ve been collaborating data, setlists, and all around Phish related things since before the internet was the cool.

For those who didn’t know (myself included) they have been working together with The Mockingbird Foundation for years to gather and host official setlist information. There is no other site that has a more complete and accurate record of setlists. In fact David “ZZYZX” Steinberg uses Phish.net as his source for his stats.

For all of you iPhone, iPad, and iTouch users out there, make sure to check out some apps that are available, 3 of which work with Phish.net. There’s Helping Friendly App available for $2, iTour (which is free), Phanatic available for $2, and iDIDN’T KNOW Phish Games for $2. So no matter if you’re trying to find a hotel near the venue, find out the last time something was played, or just mess around and play games you can have everything you need for $6. Unfortunately these apps aren’t available for Android…yet. If there’s an Android programmer out there, please contact Phish.net staff as they would be interesting and starting a conversation.

A lot of people worked (and still work) to make Phish.net great. Take a look at this link to see the list of contributors.

So after we wrapped up our chat with Adam about the history of Phish.net and all the great apps that are available we had some tour talk to announce. Trey Tour 2011 has been announced with presale already complete. Looks like Trey is taking a quick tour from east to west with tour only lasting a few weeks. Mike Gordon also announced his Spring 2011 tour. Funny enough he starts tour the day Trey ends and only a few hours away…hmmm…can you say bus hand-off? Maybe so and maybe not.

Lastly we wrap up by listening to a few of your voicemails and reading an email we received. Thank you to everyone for your lot updates, make sure to keep them coming! The number is 419-NO-WOOKS, program it in your phone people! We can’t be everywhere at once.

Thank you again for all your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 48: GTL – Gym > Tanning > Lot

Listen to Episode 48

Phish Fall Tour 2010 is in full swing and so are the setlists and lot scenes! Utica seems to be the hit show so far but as I’m typing this the Manchester setlist is rolling in and it sounds like we might have a new leader.

Everyone is getting pumped up for the Halloween weekend and the TWoL crew is no exception. All 3 of us will be at the AC run and we plan on throwing down with the best of ‘em! Of course… come to our meet-up.

Steve managed to hit up a few shows this tour, some tickets were tougher than you would think. Our advice for Phish 3.0 Fall Tour = if it’s a weekend show make sure you get a ticket ahead of time. Oh and whatever you do take care of your shoes.

In non Phish news, unfortunately moe. had to cancel their October 30th show due to some personal family issues. We wish them all the best and hope everything turns out ok. They have rescheduled the show for December 4th. For more details on the announcement check this link out.

We received a TON of voicemails this week and we played every single one on this episode. Thank you for everyone who left one, keep them coming! Don’t forget we will randomly select a few people who leave voicemails to win a copy of Touropoly! Thank you again to Touropoly for being this months sponsor!

We appreciate all of our fans, thank you for your support! We’ll see you this weekend in AC!

TWoL 46: Your baby for a 10/31!

Listen to Episode 46

Let’s get right into it! Phish Fall Tour 2010 is in full swing with the shows kicking off in Broomfield, CO. From the reports we received tickets were easily available and there was even a rerelease.

Speaking of tickets, our guests this week are Brando and Dusty from CashorTrade.org. Cash or Trade is website designed to let fans come together and make fair trades and sell tickets for face value.  Think of this as a place you can come to make a trade/purchase/sale with other fans and not worry about dealing with a scalper site. They got a good thing going and are getting ready to update their site soon so make sure you check it out!

In other ticket news, prices are plummeting for every show except the Halloween run. Even though the New Years run went on sale on Saturday you can go to TM right now and buy tickets 4 days later for the Worcester shows. Not surprisingly the NYE show and other 2 nights at MSG are completely sold out. Nick actually had tickets in his cart for NYE but the apparently the seats weren’t h3tty enough so he threw them back. TWoL 41: Bonne Anniversaire!

Happy happy oh my friend! TWoL is one year old! Thank you to everyone for your continued support and encouragement, it means more than you know!

This week we have some old friends back to discuss the wrap up of leg 2 of Phish Summer Tour and the upcoming Fall 2010 Tour. Our guests are Scotty who runs YEMblog and also does work for Hidden Track on Glide Magazine, and an old favorite…Noob Laura! Although she might not be a Noob anymore, you’ll have to listen to find out the details.

Bringing some positivity to the Phish scene there was an announcement today that the Mockingbird Foundation and The Mimi Fishman Foundation has raised over $1 million dollars! Glad to see things like that a making some “mainstream” news instead of the JB jumper.

Also hot off the press are the results of the Phish Summer Tour Survey that our friend Parker (the same Parker of the now infamous SKYGATE2010 TWoL debate) created. We all agreed and were glad to see that Deer Creek was the winner for the best lot.

Next up we decide to open up the closet and listen to the very first pilot episode of TWoL, it’s only 2 minutes long but it brings back many a memory. We also discuss what are our favorite moments on TWoL during a recap of the previous years episodes.

Finally as always we listen to your voicemails and check out a photo submission we received from one fan. Thank you everyone for listening and submitting your voicemails, photo’s, and comments, we really appreciate it.

TWoL 39: “Hell U Ride”

The 2nd leg of Phish tour has started and it’s off with a bang! Emilie is absent this week as she was abducted by some wooks and forced to travel to Telluride, we make an attempt to contact her at the show but alas it was not to be. Apparently it was one hell of ride to get from the Greek to Telluride, she’ll be back next week to fill us in on experience.

Nick just got back from 3 nights at the Greek theater and runs through the “lot” scene or lack there of, as well as a talk about the beauty of the venue both in location and the sound. There was plenty of wooks around, I mean it’s Berkeley, CA but for the most part he managed to ignore the spunions and have a pretty good time. Take a listen to the podcast to get the whole story.

We also run a ticket check to see what Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, and Jones Beach tickets are running, not surprisingly seems like they hovering around face for lawns and slightly above for pavilions. If anybody has an extra Tuesday they are looking to unload Steve is still on the hunt.

This week we had our friend Spike on and he runs through a lot report for the Big Up Festival held in Ghent, NY. This festival combined different types of music and art, from the untz to jambands. All in all it sounds like a good time, you’ll have to take a listen to the podcast to hear full details.

As always we run through your voicemails to hear what’s going on in your lot. Thank you everyone who left a message, keep them coming!

Last but not least we run through the photos for our contest to win free glow sticks, from GlowStickWars.com. This week’s winner is Noob Laura for her picture of spunions wearing glowsticks and staring at flames. Keep your photo submissions coming and remember to put GSW in the subject line of your email so we don’t miss it. Once again that email address is info@thisweekonlot.com hit us up!

See you next week on lot!

Special Report: Camp Bisco 9, “The Silent Podcast”

Listen to Special Report – Camp Bisco 2010

Hey guys, this week we have a special report for ya, live from Camp Bisco 2010. This is a unique episode, as it will bring some firsts to the program. As usual, we hit you up with an episode discussing the scene. This week, the players are “Noob” Laura, PhanArt Pete, and myself (Steve). We review the camp grounds, our favorite sets of music, and all the “WHOMP” we ran in too (WHOMP is the new UNTZ). Next, I hit shakedown and scored interviews with vendors and artists. Finally, we add some updates during the rain delay that occurred on Saturday night, delaying the Biscuits final throw down.

In addition to the episode, I also have put together some photos and videos of the weekend. There is so much to do at Camp Bisco, it would be impossible to do it justice in the half hour broadcast. True to our mission, we are bringing you a snap shot of “the lot”, but I couldn’t help but throw in some band photos and coverage. This was my 5th Camp Bisco, and without hesitation, I can say it was for reals the best one. If you have never been, you have to go next year. I know I will be going.

Finally, I would like to apologize for the crappy audio on my mic during the first half of the episode. Laura and Pete sound good, but I had some weird shit going on. I hope this isn’t a deal breaker, the rest of the audio is great, but I wanted to acknowledge it. Also, big ups to Laura and Pete for joining in this episode. Thanks to the carenwest pr for having TWoL on the scene.  Finally thanks to the Disco Biscuits for putting on one hell of a good time!

“It wouldn’t be Camp Bisco if it wasn’t Camp Bisco” – Marc Brownstein.

TWoL 35: I’ve Been Partying Since June 17th

After a few weeks on Phish tour and at High Sierra Music Festival the entire crew of TWoL is back for this episode! Emilie has been going nonstop since June 17th wooking it up with the best of them and has tales of tour from coast to coast.

We have a review of all the Phish lots we’ve been to since the last time we left our listeners at Merriweather. There were a lot of wooks, even more cops, some serious bust outs from the band, and Steve learns that luke warm wine from a bag doesn’t sell well on the lot. Just goes to show there’s always a lesson on the lot.

We received a TON of voicemails since our last full episode and we appreciate everyone leaving us amazing lot reports. There was so many we couldn’t get to all of them but we tried to bring you the best of the best. Looks like a lot of folks from Phish tour left us messages as well as some from Furthur. Keep them coming!

Last but not least we try out a new segment on the show reviewing a random search term people used to find our blog. We’re not exactly sure how the googles navigated people to our site from this term and even what the person really meant. You be the judge!

Thanks again to PhanArt for sponsoring us this month and to everyone who left voicemails. We’ll be announcing the random winner of the PhanArt package giveaway next week. Until then see you on the lot!

TWoL 31: Knee Deep in Brisket

Steve and Emilie go live as a duo again this week while Nick is knee deep in brisket preparing for his big BBQ cook-off this weekend!  We wish him all the luck 300 h3tty crystals can bring a brah…

We start this episode off by doing a quick recap of this past week’s musical outings; Emilie went hipster-wook and hit up Plants and Animals. Not quite a the lot scene, but the show rocked HARD!  If you see this band coming through your town – GO!  Steve kept it OG-wook and spent the night with a few fellow twibe members at DSO in New Jersey (keep it dirty) and reports that there was no shortage of wookery at the raging Shakedown out front.

Festival season officially kicks off this weekend with lots of Memorial Day Weekend fun from coast to coast.  We run down the list of all the festivals to choose from: with so many amazing options you have no excuse to be on couch tour!   Starting in the middle we’ve got Summer Camp going on it’s 10th year in Chillicothe, Illinois – people travel from all over for this UMoe. fest.  The northeast has got DelFest where Noob Laura will hold down the fort (we better get some lot reports).  The west coast gets the most love with four festivals to choose from: Lightning in a Bottle if you’re looking for untz, Mountain Aire Furthur Fest if you’re looking for grilled cheese, Desert Rocks festival in Utah if you’re looking for beautiful surroundings and Sasquatch up at the Gorge if you’re looking for skinny jeans.  All in all, it looks like it should be a nice little weekend of music.

With summer tour only days away, we touch on late nights and ticket checks.  SPAC night 1 has sold out making it the first show other than those that sold out immediately to “sell out.”  If you didn’t get a chance to snag tickets, check out our buddy Jim’s contest – he’s giving away a pair of SPAC pavillions for a good cause – MS research.  We also talk late nights as we look at all the artists traveling to Telluride to play to those who can’t find a miracle.  And, speaking of Phish – we’ve heard major “no’s” on the Indio rumor that had been circulating in recent months…which leads us to our next poll:  If there’s no festival in Indio, where will it be?? We’ve come up with a few options below so scroll, vote and let us know what you think.

As many of you have heard, there was a bit of family drama in the PT world this past week, congratulations to PhanTank who has officially earned his 15 minutes of fame.  We here at TWoL want to go on record and say “can’t we all just get along??”  Come on people, we’re here for the music!!

We close it out with voicemails were we have a little nugget from our youngest listener (go to sleep, it’s past your bedtime!!)

Stay tuned and keep the lot reports coming….you never know….maybe you’ll end up the winner of an Alpine Valley travel package!

TWoL 30: And It Begins

We’re all back together this week bringing the latest and greatest.  Austin City Limits was finally kangfirmed, thanks to CoventryBlog for a good head start on that one.  We all think this is a really wise choice for Phish (and a much better choice than Bonnaroo) and shows that Phish does what they want.  Three day passes sold out before the announcement, which we also think is pretty sweet, but single day passes are still available.  With ACL being Oct 8-10, of course that only further solidifies the oh-so-fun Vegas rumor of three nights at the Thomas & Mack the following weekend.  We say book it.  Other possibilities to round out the first leg of fall tour could be LA, Phoenix, Denver, and a few others in between…and of course, maybe, Indio.

Next do a quick ticket check (ticket cheeeeeck) and peep on how much $$ summer tour tickets cost as of today.  A real-time check showed some of the cheapest bottoming out at $19 and of course Telluride still in the lead at a whopping $1000+.  Berkeley is up there at $200 and surprisingly you can still get an Ntelos ticket for around $75.  With less than a month left til the start of the tour, we’ll see how these prices hold up.  We heard Alpines are already hanging from trees out there.  Just saying…

Speaking of Alpine…CID Entertainment’s Alpine Valley travel package is still up for grabs.  We wanna hear your best lot story.  It doesn’t have to be crazy, it doesn’t have to be illegal or scandalous (although we do wanna hear those too).  It just has to be awesome.  This week we wanna hear some lot love stories!  Tell us how you fell in love on the lot.  You can enter three different ways: 1. Call us and leave a message at 419-NO-WOOKS  2. Hit us up on the blog 3. Send us an email.  Enter all three ways, we dare you.

Touching ever so slightly on last’s week’s spring cleaning, TWoL is looking to go live this summer from the lot so we need equipment!  We now have a h3tty donation page were you can show your love once, or over and over again.  You can also show your love by becoming our fan on Facebook.

Last but definitely not least, we listen to a few voicemails, including an always rare pro-wook VM.  Thanks to our buddy Mike we now also have a h3tty new VM jingle!  (Check out some of his other stuff here and here.)  Prank calls or wook-spottings, don’t forget to drunk dial us and leave us a lot report.

Next week we’ll be back with (hopefully) more breaking news!!

TWoL 29: Spring Cleaning…

Nick is on hiatus this week, but Steve and Emilie kill it with the first ever TWoL live video stream episode packed full of rumors, updates, and voicemails – oh my!

Phish in Vegas is the big rumor this week with dates being October 14-16, fitting well with the Austin City Limits rumor of the weekend before. This also flows well with the possibility of Phish heading back to Indio for Fest9 again this Halloween.

Also in Phish news, earlier today they recorded their take on a Rolling Stone’s: Exile on Mainstreet song for the Jimmy Fallon show that airs tonight. We’re all waiting patiently to see what they’ll play!

Then the spring cleaning begins and we bring you all the latest TWoL updates including links to “kick down some donations brah“, sponsorship opportunities, CID – Alpine Valley Travel Package contest, our Jambase page which tracks all the shows we are going to, and last but certainly not least our new Facebook page!  Become a fan today and we’ll love you forever.

Lastly we listen to some great voicemails and all get a good laugh. Again, thank you to everyone who calls in with reports – keep the drunk dials coming! It’s also not too late to partake in our poll from last week, let us know if you danced (or didn’t dance) at Phish3D.

Next week the band will be back together.

TWoL 25: Movies and books and hoops, oh my!

Festival 8 is back in all of its full glory on the big screen! Today the cities were finally announced where you can go and see Festival 8 in 3D as performed by Phish on Halloween Weekend 2009.  Cities are listed here and at some select theatres you can already purchase advance tickets. The film is scheduled to open on April 30th and run for one week so be sure to see it while you can.

Next up we’ve got a ticket check, it appears that Great Woods has finally “sold out” as we were no longer able to pull tickets. I guess everyone will just have to wait for the inevitable rerelease that’s sure to happen. We also perform a sanity check and see what prices tickets are going for. Every show that isn’t sold out is going for under face and currently Telluride holds the top price at around $700 a ticket. No surprises, but we’ll keep an eye out and let the listeners know what’s going on each week.

Our friends over at Glide Magazine did a rundown of the “10 Hardest Phish Tickets” and for the most part we agree with their lists. There are some discrepancies and debatable picks but over all we agree. You can check out the list here.

Speaking of movies, turns out The Grateful Dead have another movie coming out. Got to keep the merchandising machine running, Bobby needs some new shorts!  Jambase has a great write up providing the details about where and when you can see the movie in theatres as well as details on when you can buy the movie.

Our old friend Noob Laura is back on the episode this week and she brings with her a book review of Headz. This book is about the lot scene and about different characters and their experiences getting to the lot and on the lot. We aren’t sure how we feel about the book but if you’re interested you can find it on their website but you’ll have to take a listen to find out Laura’s review.

Last and certainly least (in some of our opinions) is the strange Hulaween announcement of SCI and tDB playing in Hampton, VA. We’ve got our predictions of how the flatbrim, untz, glitter, hula-hoops, and pinwheels night is going to turn out and it’s not looking good. If you’re bored off your ass or just want to kangfirm we aren’t making this up and they really are planning to do this check out the info.

Thanks everybody for listening, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 22: I Traveled All This Way and all I Got Was a Broken Wrist?!?

This week our guest is Vortman, an old of friend of Steve’s. He’s spent 50 days traveling to each of the 50 states and creating artworks in each. He mainly creates paintings at music shows and festivals so you may be familiar with some of his groups work already. To find out how it’s possible to travel to all 50 states in 50 days take a listen and see how he did, the route he took is not actually that conventional. You can check out his art as well as a link to purchase artwork here.

In the event that you’ve been without the internet or living in a cave this week let us be the first to tell you that Phish announced their summer 2010 tour. They’re playing some of their typical spots and a few ones that they haven’t played in a long time are on the list this time. The much anticipated Telluride shows were confirmed as well as a three nights at the Greek in Berkeley California. Other than that if you live in the western part of the country you’re going to have to take a road trip to see them.  Our friends at Hidden Track from Glide Magazine have a good rundown on all the shows here.

In other news it seems that Barber from The Disco Biscuits managed to mess himself up again, whether it was another drunken accident we can’t say. Rumors are swirling about how it happened, it seems fishy that they don’t say any specifics on how he broke his wrist. They canceled the show in Montclair, NJ which Steve is very upset about considering he could walk to the show. They did continue with a free Boston show with guest guitarist from RAQ but had to cancel the show after first set due to rumors of police and fire marshals unhappy about backstage activities. Coventry Music blog has a good write-up on the whole situation.

TWoL 19: DEFCON 5

We’re at DEFOCN 5 here at TWoL, Steve is running out of light cream for his White Russians. In other news, I’m sure most of you already know that Bonnaroo made their lineup announcement. We talk a little about the lineup and the decisions that must be made when you have so many bands to choose from. We also talk about the Total Access Pass that Bonnaroo is offering this year, it’s basically the only way to guarantee that you’ll have a wook free weekend.

We also talk about Trey Tour and our guest this week, Eric, shares his experience from the recent Boston show. Turns out that TAB is a whole different scene than a Phish show.

Furthur tour rolls into the famous Barton Hall in Ithaca NY. Check out the 1977 concert here.

Finally as always we take a listen to your voicemails and emails about what’s going on in your lot. We’re still looking for someone to help fill Laura’s role while she is on hiatus so if your interested please leave us a voicemail at 419-NOWOOKS.

Please note: The new email addy is info@thisweekonlot.com. But, thisweekonlot@gmail.com will also continue to work.

TWoL 17: The State of the Lot

We’ve got a short episode for you this week as there’s not much going on with “The State of the Lot” these days. Be sure to check out Camp Bisco 9 as well as the Gordo March Tour Run and Les Claypool has a tour and wine announcement. There’s also a few shows going on at the Brooklyn Bowl that are worth checking out.

We also have a bit of sad news, Laura or “Noob Laura” as so many of you know her as taken an indefinite leave from TWoL. Laura, we wish you the best and the door is always open for ya!  That being said, we now have an opening for someone interested in giving reports, producing the podcast etc. Hit us up either through email or preferably through our voicemail line at 419-NO-WOOKS; leave us message telling us what you could bring to the podcast.

TWoL 16: People on Land Just Don’t Understand

**Editor’s Note** We apologize for the echo from Olker on the second half of the podcast. We’re not sure if he decided to broadcast from a cave or if his interview with our special guest inspired him to add some reverb to the podcast. Either way, sorry! We’ll try not to let it happen again!**

What do you get when you mix costumes, jam bands, a bunch of hippies, and a giant boat? Oh yea, and sock puppets? Jam Cruise! Our good friend Neil from Coventry Phish & Music Blog was luck enough to set sail this year and he made it back to dry land to tell us all about it. Steve waxes poetic about his Jam Cruise experience, leaving the rest of the TWoL crew to wonder why the hell we didn’t go this year.

We have an AMAZING interview lined up for the break. We still can’t believe we were able to sit down with this person for such an in depth interview!

After the break, the crew gives their recommendations for the 2010 festival season. We’re going with Wakarusa, Desert Rocks, and Delfest this year. Where will you be? Check out all your festie options on Jambase, where they’re conveniently organized them all into great regional lists.

After a quick ticket check, where Steve is man enough to admit when he’s wrong (Trey tour is selling out!), we hear from our good friend Nick in Ohio about the worst state in the country for live music and how he’s hosting us at GratefulFest this year. Right Nick!?

Check it out! We went an entire episode without mentioning Phish!

TWoL 15: A Shiftload of Phish

Even though Trey told us to cool out until next Summer, we’re all still buzzing about Phish and the crazy year that was 2009. We just can’t get enough. So to keep us warm and cozy through the next 5 (or 6?!) months of bleek non-Phish existence, our good friend @EricWyman put together an amazing playlist of the Best Jams of 2009. With the help of nearly everyone on Twitter, Eric collected votes on the best jams (or songs) from all three tours, Hampton, Fest 8, and New Years. There was so much to choose from but the votes made it pretty clear which jams were the best of the best. Listen to hear which jam reigned supreme over the goodness that was 2009. Granted, you can’t really ever boil it down to just one song, right? So Eric and friends put together over 7 hours of amazing Phish for our listening pleasure. For all you cubicle monkeys, you can start this playlist first thing in the morning and rock out your entire shift at work. Not that you don’t do that already, we’re sure…

You can stream or download the entire playlist and let us know what you think. Also, check out the votes from the twitter and phish.net community. Anything on there you agree or disagree with?

Still looking back fondly at 2009, we address the best and worst lots of the year. We unanimously agree on the worst of the year. We’ll give you one hint: our personal space was definitely invaded and we did not enjoy it. The best lot? We all disagree but that’s a good thing, right? If the overall lot scene of 2009 was good, then win for all of us!

After the break, we look ahead at the multitude of tours in the next few months. It seems every jam band is on the road and is coming to your town (yea, even to Iowa). We have the Trey Anastasio Band sticking pretty close to the east coast, not showing any love to the west coast fans much to Nick’s dismay. It’s great to have our beloved ginger back on the road, but do the tickets need to cost so damn much? It’s because he’s bringing the horns, isn’t it? If you’ve had enough ginger in your life, you could always join Laura and Steve on the Disco Biscuits tour. Again, Brownie and the band are staying primarily on the east coast, with the exception of 4 dates in Denver and Bisco Inferno in May. This tour is going to be HOT and we can’t wait. And if that wasn’t enough for you, moe. is practically going everywhere in the next few months. Everywhere. And somehow they seem to be the first band to cater to their visual learning fans and put up a pretty sweet moe.map on their website. Check ‘em out. Need more options? How about Umphrey’s, Galactic, or Tea Leaf Green? Moral of the story? We had better be getting some lot reports from you brah and sisbrahs in the next few months because there is some music to be seen.

Speaking of lot reports, we got a fresh lot report from our good friend and part-time Ocelot @zippyhybrid. We met this cat and his girl at Fest8 and they are good people. Zippy is hitting us up from the NYE Yonder Mountain show.

All in all? We have so much to dwell on from last year but even more ahead of us this year. Happy 2010 kids! See you on lot!
