TWoL 121: TWoLquila

Listen to Episode 121

Strap yourselves in for a long episode this week, folks. Apparently the Steves and I had a lot of things we needed to get off our chests (and a lot of tequila to drink).

We began by discussing a Furthur Living Social deal that we spied for their upcoming show in Broomfield, CO. We also had a brief UMPH update regarding their newly released 15th anniversary book and Ryan Stasik’s fondness for “beautifully drawn black sharpie penis[es].” We then took a listen to Kai, the wook hitchhiker who has been all over the news lately. Can’t ignore a mainstream wook story!

Next we dove into festival line up announcements and Phish tour rumors, since we are still (impatiently) waiting for that announcement. Check out our discussion of the Rock N Roll Resort, Bonnaroo, Peach Fest and Delfest lineups.

And finally, stay tuned for Toonces’ amusing anecdote about what happened when EOTO rolled through Richmond and a lot report from the Jim James show in Brooklyn.

Please excuse the mid-episode tequila shot break and singing and thanks to the chat room for helping us name this episode. As always we greatly appreciate the listeners who live stream and chat with us and those who call in lot reports (419.NO.WOOKS). Thanks guys!

We will be back in two weeks with our new “Ask DanMar” segment. Please submit questions about any topic on Twitter or Facebook, to info@thisweekonlot or in the comments sections below. Make your questions serious, crazy or just plain funny. She will answer anything!

Until next time, party on!

Special Report: Catskill Chill 2012

Listen to Special Report: Catskill Chill 2012

This week’s eposide is a very special report about Catskill Chill 2012. Last weekend, September 7-9, Steve and I headed up to Hancock, NY to check out this intimate festival’s third year. Due to lack of cell reception and internet we couldn’t do much reporting from the festival itself. This epsiode is designed to cover all of our thoughts and commentary from the weekend. Listen in for discussion of the grounds, the crowd, the music and the camping. Also be sure to check out Steve’s awesome pictures, included below and on our Facebook page. If you were at the Chill with us leave us a voicemail with your thoughts at 419.NO.WOOKS. And if you weren’t there don’t snooze on this festival next year. Reserve a cabin early and get in on a great young festival! We will be back in two weeks with a regular epsiode covering our other early fall shenanigans. Until then, rage proper!

Be well,

Katie

TWoL 112: Better Bring a Buddy to Snuggle With.

Listen to Episode 112

This week on lot, Nick returned for a second consecutive show. And he even saw some Phish!  He recapped his experiences at Long Beach and nights one and two of Bill Graham just for you guys. We also tackled the webcast drama and the drama about phish editorials before we ran a quick ticket check for the rest of tour. Stay tuned to our twitter page for coverage of Alabama, Atlanta, Charlotte and Denver from Toonces and friends of the show @DanMar85 and @_Carini_.

The last few weeks also saw a number of Phish side projects announcements for the fall. Trey announced a short tour in support of his new album, which will be released on October 16th. Page will be playing two Halloween shows with the Meter Men right here in NYC. And Fishman will be playing three shows, also in the Big Apple, with Everyone Orchestra. Your move Cactus…

Steve and I were also excited about the just released Catskill Chill schedule, since we will both be hitting up that festival in Hancock, NY from September 7-9.  And we rounded out the show by looking at the recently announced Panic en la Playa which goes on sale tomorrow.

On a personal note, I would like to say Congrats to our two remaining OG TWoL hosts and founders, Steve and Nick (and all past and present TWoLers) as we celebrate our three year anniversary this week. Thanks to all of you who have listened, called in and raged with us at shows. Please call or email us your favorite TWoL memories, or suggestions for the future, or whatever you damn well feel like at 419.NO.WOOKS or info@thisweekonlot.com. And please stick around with us for the next three years!

Until next time, be well.

EOTO @ Roseland Ballroom 04.20.12 (BLOG)

Show Review

4/20/2012

EOTO @ Roseland Ballroom

Words: Katie

Pics: Steve O.

It’s not often that a concert occurs exactly where and when you want it to.  This past Friday, 04.20.12, at the Roseland Ballroom, however, the EOTO show did just that for me.  On this hippie holiday, one of the biggest party nights of the year for some, the super dark, packed dance floor was the perfect atmosphere for EOTO’s intricate beats and state of the art light show.

TWoL 105 – H3tty Crystal Pillow Fight

Listen to Episode 105

Hey, kids!  This week yields a h3tty dose of bro with Steve squared going all Type II, nailing the transitions, and bringing you the news you need.

Both hosts had a healthy dose of music this past weekend, with UNO at EOTO/Shpongle and Toonces checking out PGroove.  The shows were h3tty and the crowds were young. Way young.  EOTO and Shpongle are touring pretty heavily right now, with dates together and also doing they own thang. PGroove has a few shows left before they hit festival season.  All and all, we had a good time at both shows and got pretty in depth with the reviews. Don’t miss out.

Next we transition to some of our favorite, and what should be your favorite, things.  Here’s the rundown:
-Our friends at GlowStickWars are having a bitchin’ Back to Tour Sale, with 20% off everything.  That includes a few brand new, reusable items.  Save money, save the earth, make it rain.  And enter to win a 3-Day pass to Summer Camp while you’re at it.
-Umphreaks with tickets will be elated to hear that the UMBowl III ballots have been unveiled.  Go on and get your vote on for your favorite 1st Quarter All Request Set songs and the 4th Quarter Raw Stewage Set jams.  Check out the ballots this way.
-Have you ever seen a documentary for Phish heads by Phish heads?  Maybe So, Maybe Not.  That’s the title of a forthcoming movie by filmmaker Noah Wilderman.  It’s about who Phish phans really are.  We can’t really recall a movie about Phans before, so let us know if we’re mistaken.  It could be memory loss due to our old age.  You can check out the trailer here and we’ll have a review once the film is released.
-On Monday, Gathering of the Vibes released their initial lineup.  Holy guacamole it looks sick!  Dead rumors are sure to abound with all members in attendance and there’s plenty of great bands packed on to the bill.  Toonces will be there, will you?

We all know UNO loves a ticket check, even a half of a ticket check.  That’s what you get this week because nothing has changed since last week.  NOTHING.  Leg 2, anyone?

Lastly, Steve and Steve breeze through a couple of quick notes on festivals down south.  Way down south.  TWoL is happy to announce they will be at Mayan Holidaze.  UNO is dedicated to bring you the live coverage you crave and promises the most epic end of the world face time convo ever.  Mentally prepare yourselves.  Jam Cruise has begun the prebooking for next year’s floating festie.  We recommend you get on it.  At the very least, throw your hat in the ring for four free passes courtesy of Magic Hat.  Or don’t … this way we have better chances of winning ;-)

That’s all for this week.  If anyone knows how to play Zombie/Wook/Alien please let us know.  We just can’t remember.  Must be the old age.

-Toonces.

Special Report: Jam Cruise 10

Listen to Special Report – Jamcruise 10

Well, TWoL is back on land and we are happy to report that a great time was had by all. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Scott Bernstein from Hidden Track and Neil “The Joker” FonteYes from Coventry Music Blog in my balcony cabin on the final day of the cruise. The three of us covered a little slice of everything: from the pre-shows in Fort Lauderdale, to the layout of the stages, to the ports of call, and of course the musical highlights. We all had been on the boat before, and as is popular opinion, agreed this was the “best year yet.” No surprise, we ultimately recommend that everyone goes at least once. However, that doesn’t mean this episode is all fluff. There is always room for some improvement, and we end the episode with advice for newbies and what we would like to see different in the coming years.

Were you on Jam Cruise also? Leave us your thoughts below or send us a voicemail at 419-669-6657 to be played on the next episode. Please enjoy the gallery of some pics that I took below, and be sure to check the last post for some other thoughts and more photos.

Thanks for listening,

Steve

TWoL on a Boat: Jam Cruise Update

Howdy TWoLers!

Katie here, just got an update from Steve and Noob Laura who are currently pulling away from Jamaica on Jam Cruise.  Steve sent along a ton of pictures and a few quick impressions of the music to whet our appetites before he can give his full report next week.

Seems like boat life is pretty sweet.  A room at the back of the boat with a balcony is a win.  Food situation is acceptable, better than anticipated.

Night 1 featured Break Science, Umphrey’s, Heavy Pets and Lettuce.

On Day 2 there were a variety of panels and plenty of time for the gang to play with moogs and theramins (amazing!).  Zach Deputy played with members of Toubab Krewe and Railroad Earth, but Galactic and EOTO apparently owned Night 2, which also featured a zebra theme.

Day 3 the boat hit Haiti.  Musical highlights included the Omega Moos, Ozomatli with Karl Denson, Soulive, Col. Bruce Hampton holding it down in the Jam Room, and Trombone Shorty.

That’s all for now kids but there’s plenty more Jam Cruise to come.  We’ll keep you posted with any more updates in case you weren’t all jealous enough already.

Rage on!

Katie

Special Report: The Big Up

Click for Photo Gallery

The Big Up, 2011
“A quality product at such a young age for a festie.” – Jules Jenssen, Shireworks Productions
Welcome to Special Report: The Big Up. Who knew we could love a tiny little festival so much? Steve, Laura, and our guest PhanArt Pete walk you through everything you need to know about this rager at Sunnyview Farms in Ghent, NY. We cover camping, tickets, headliners, and why the Big Up should have a permanent spot on your festival schedule next year.
New on this Special Report: Interviews! Laura spent some time talking to Jules, Zach, and Brian, three of the guys behind Shireworks Productions and The Big Up (and Higher Organix…they’re quite busy). We asked our Twitter friends if they had any burning questions for the Shireworks guys and got some great responses! Sorry, @FeetheProdigy…Laura couldn’t ask “How much wook can a wookchuck chuck if a wookchuck could chuck wook?” with a straight face. Listen to the Special Report to hear a few of your questions answered by the festival producers. The full interview will be available as a separate file, as well.
And since Laura is the perpetual noob and she’s always forgetting something at festivals, she asked a few of The Big Up artists what their most essential piece of festival gear was/is. Listen to the Special Report to hear answers from Shireworks Productions/Higher Organix, The Polish AmbassadorDigital Tape Machine, and Zoogma.
Full interviews with artists and photos will be available soon as separate posts / additions to this post.
As always, thanks for listening! We hope to see all you east coasters at The Big Up in 2012.

TWoL 18: Kangfirmed

This week we keep it local and have a special guest, Ian, from the Las Vegas Jam Band Society. We “kangfirm” a few things too, like the fact that none of us are going to be able to attend any of the shows that were announced this week including the return of SCI.

The announcement for Bonnaroo is scheduled for Feb 9th 2010 but we have some breaking news about an album that’s going to be covered. That’s right, you heard it first on TWoL!

For all the European fans of TWoL we’ve got  a special tour annoucement from Jack Johnson apparently he’s having a few shows in Hawaii and then doing some serious traveling abroad. He’s also annoucning a tour for all you “chad bro chills” too.  ; )

Finally listen as Steve takes his lumps on his prediction of ticket sales for trey tour. I mean it’s pretty ridiculous that no one would want to go to Minneapolis in the middle of winter right? TWoL is calling it right now, the MIN show is going to be the sleeper show of Trey Tour.

Take a listen to the episode and find out more about all things kangfirmed.
