TWoL 29: Spring Cleaning…

Nick is on hiatus this week, but Steve and Emilie kill it with the first ever TWoL live video stream episode packed full of rumors, updates, and voicemails – oh my!

Phish in Vegas is the big rumor this week with dates being October 14-16, fitting well with the Austin City Limits rumor of the weekend before. This also flows well with the possibility of Phish heading back to Indio for Fest9 again this Halloween.

Also in Phish news, earlier today they recorded their take on a Rolling Stone’s: Exile on Mainstreet song for the Jimmy Fallon show that airs tonight. We’re all waiting patiently to see what they’ll play!

Then the spring cleaning begins and we bring you all the latest TWoL updates including links to “kick down some donations brah“, sponsorship opportunities, CID – Alpine Valley Travel Package contest, our Jambase page which tracks all the shows we are going to, and last but certainly not least our new Facebook page!  Become a fan today and we’ll love you forever.

Lastly we listen to some great voicemails and all get a good laugh. Again, thank you to everyone who calls in with reports – keep the drunk dials coming! It’s also not too late to partake in our poll from last week, let us know if you danced (or didn’t dance) at Phish3D.

Next week the band will be back together.

TWoL 25: Movies and books and hoops, oh my!

Festival 8 is back in all of its full glory on the big screen! Today the cities were finally announced where you can go and see Festival 8 in 3D as performed by Phish on Halloween Weekend 2009.  Cities are listed here and at some select theatres you can already purchase advance tickets. The film is scheduled to open on April 30th and run for one week so be sure to see it while you can.

Next up we’ve got a ticket check, it appears that Great Woods has finally “sold out” as we were no longer able to pull tickets. I guess everyone will just have to wait for the inevitable rerelease that’s sure to happen. We also perform a sanity check and see what prices tickets are going for. Every show that isn’t sold out is going for under face and currently Telluride holds the top price at around $700 a ticket. No surprises, but we’ll keep an eye out and let the listeners know what’s going on each week.

Our friends over at Glide Magazine did a rundown of the “10 Hardest Phish Tickets” and for the most part we agree with their lists. There are some discrepancies and debatable picks but over all we agree. You can check out the list here.

Speaking of movies, turns out The Grateful Dead have another movie coming out. Got to keep the merchandising machine running, Bobby needs some new shorts!  Jambase has a great write up providing the details about where and when you can see the movie in theatres as well as details on when you can buy the movie.

Our old friend Noob Laura is back on the episode this week and she brings with her a book review of Headz. This book is about the lot scene and about different characters and their experiences getting to the lot and on the lot. We aren’t sure how we feel about the book but if you’re interested you can find it on their website but you’ll have to take a listen to find out Laura’s review.

Last and certainly least (in some of our opinions) is the strange Hulaween announcement of SCI and tDB playing in Hampton, VA. We’ve got our predictions of how the flatbrim, untz, glitter, hula-hoops, and pinwheels night is going to turn out and it’s not looking good. If you’re bored off your ass or just want to kangfirm we aren’t making this up and they really are planning to do this check out the info.

Thanks everybody for listening, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 24: I saw you with 7 extra Lawn ticket stubs in your hand!

After a brief delay this week due to technical difficulties we’re back up and at ‘em and we’re bringing with us a new guest. Emilie joins the podcast as a permanent member this week. She met Steve and I this past year, myself at the Hampton shows and Steve at the Fenway show. Coincidentally she also met Noob Laura at the Hampton shows where the Phish Twibe had their first official tweet-up.

So the big news this past week has been the announcement of the Phish lottery results and the on-sales for the summer shows. Each of us talk about how we fared in the lottery. Some of us did better than others but the general consensus is we all got what we wanted either in the lottery or during the on-sales. As the title alludes to, tickets are pretty easy to get now that the hype as died down.

Which brings us to our next point of discussion, what sold out and what is still available? Phish officially lists nTelos, Berkeley, Telluride, Great Woods, and both nights of Jones Beach as sold out. However, during our podcast we were able to pull a Great Woods pavilion ticket so something weird is going on with that.

Telluride is the hot item ticket so far this tour as it’s a 2 day event and involves camping so it can practically be considered a mini festival. The big news was the announcement presale that anyone who purchases a ticket through the only available vendor for this event, Tickethorse.com, would get a paperless ticket. These paperless tickets are an effort for the band to help prevent scalping from these highly sought after tickets. It still won’t stop any scalpers who won tickets in the lottery from selling their tickets but it’s a good start. What the hell is a paperless ticket and how does it work you ask? Well check it out here for an explanation of how it all works.
Our discussion about ticket scalping brought us to another point. What if all shows were general admission? There’s some good points and some bad points, and in the end would it all work out? Or would people just be a little freaked out? You’ll have to listen to find out our thoughts.

In other Phish related news, there will be a 3D movie of last years epic Halloween festival Fest8 in Indio, CA. You can check out a trailer and sign up for the mailing list which will announce theatre dates and times here. There is a sneak preview coming out in a few select cities on April 20th, but the official release of the movie is scheduled for April 30th.

Finally we finish up with your voicemails as well as letting everyone know our live feed will not be back up until May due to some studio “upgrades” that Steve needs to perform.
Thanks everyone for listening, make sure to leave us your lot reports at 419-NO-WOOKS.
(NOTE: The actual episode ends at about 34 minutes. The last 12 minutes is an excerpt from about the 5 hours spent trying to score pavilion tickets during the public on-sale. Nick, Eric, Jim and I used skype to coordinate an attack on Ticketmaster.- Steve)

TWoL 9: Ummmmm

As we gear up to hit as many lots as possible on Phish Fall Tour, we’re coming at you with some random news from across the jam band scenes.

We just can’t seem to shake Fest 8, it’s haunting us like any good Halloween show should! Hidden Track published Best Costumes at Festival 8 and we just cannot disagree with the profoundly impeccable taste of one Mr. Scott Bernstein. Be sure to check out #6 and put some faces to the voices you hear every week!

In other Phish news, we have the most recent ticket prices for shows on Fall tour. From the absurdly cheap ($10?!?!) to the not so absurdly cheap, ticket prices are looking much different as Phish 3.0 rolls on.

We here at This Week on Lot are all about expanding our musical horizons. We’re always happy to hear new bands and pass the good ones your way. This week, we have the band Must Stash Hat for you to sample and explore. Check ‘em out!

As if Umphrey’s McGee didn’t have enough members in their band, their 3 day run at the Higher Ground in Burlington showcased 4 guest musicians. The most prominent guest, Mr. Micheal Gordon of the Phish from Vermont, sat in for a 16+ minute jam at his alleged favorite venue.

Update: Our friend and yours, Willie Pritts of the Church of Universal Love and Music is officially shut down in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Granted, we didn’t get the name of the establishment right in the podcast (we’re tired and Steve’s drinking vodka…give us a break!), we LOVE this place and wish Mr. Pritts the best of luck in finding a new venue for his congregation.

And last but not least, we need to start making our NYE plans. Will we have TWoL: Fiji? TWoL: Miami? TWoL: NYC? Well, we don’t have $4200 each so there goes Fiji. But maybe if we start saving now….?

Don’t forget to enter our MSG Phish ticket giveaway! We’ll see you on lot!

Sponsor for this this week is PhanArt.net. Be sure to stop by and tell them we sent you.

Our “Musical Shout Out” this week was Must Stash Hat. Check em out, they are from Canada, friend.

TWoL 8.5: Wook Monday?

We’re back from Fest8 and we’re all suffering in one way or another. Nick has no internet, Laura has wookflu, and Steve is encountering lot withdrawal. But we’re coming at you with a Wook Monday mini-episode to lift our spirits!
Laura and Steve discuss the most h3tty job posting ever and speculate as to whether archiving Phish would be anything like archiving the Grateful Dead. Either way, Steve would like to take this opportunity to discuss his qualifications for this position and why he’ll make a great addition to the UC Santa Cruz team. References available upon request.

We got a ton of emails from Fest 8 and we rocket through them in this episode. Everything from coherent wook reports to some really thoughtful and constructive criticism of the podcast.

Be sure to tune in for episode 9, when we will announce the contest for our Phish MSG ticket giveaway (2 tix to Friday’s show).

TWoL 7: The first rule about the Rhombus is you don’t talk about the Rhombus!

Festival 8 is right around the corner and this weeks podcast focuses around all things 8.

We talk about the eliminations of more albums and our thoughts about what we think we’ll be the last album alive. You can see the full list of remaining albums here.

Phish has revived their radio station The Bunny for Festival 8 so be sure to tune in, whether you’re stuck in line or just chilling in your RV or tent!

HeadCount has announced they will be having a “Reality Check” trivia contest at Festival 8 and the grand prize is an uncut sheet of four Pollock Halloween masks! Can’t wait to see the contest go down,  I’m sure this grand prize will bring out the serious Phish nerds.  = )

Mr. Miner blogged about the 5 reasons why he thinks this festival will be incredible and we have to say that we agree with all 5.

Phish also announced that they will be putting all the Festival 8 shows out on 24 bit flac, available for preorder as we speak. So for all you audiophiles out there it’s time to rejoice!

As always we take a listen to your voicemails and one particular caller this week is believed to have been abducted by a wook. If you’re out there caller our thoughts and prayers go out to your family, don’t ever give up hope.  = )

One more thing, we will be having a contest and giving away a pair of tickets to the Phish MSG show on Friday December 4th but you’ll have to tune in to the podcast to find out all the details.

See you at Festival 8! (our 8th episode!!!)

PS: Check out the pics of our trip to the Rhombus

TWoL 6: Don’t forget the Gold Bond!

We’ve got a great episode for you this week. Our guest this week is Scott from the YEM Blog. We talk about his site as well as his work on Hidden Track for Glide Magazine.

Festival 8 is rapidly approaching and as it does so shrinks the list of albums for the Halloween show.

If you’re a noob to festivals you’re definitely going to want to pay attention to this weeks podcast as we discuss essential items as well as some great travel tips you need to know.

Phish also made a news announcement regarding all the activities that will be going on at Festival 8. It’s going to be one hell of a busy weekend if you are going to try and do it all.

The amount of nitrous on the scene seems to have really gotten out of control. We review a great article by HeadCount talking with a former fan turned security company CEO and his thoughts around how big of a problem this has become.

The beacon of wooks is lit in NYC tonight. It’s kind of like the batman signal except instead of a super hero arriving you get a ton of hippies.

Caribbean Holidaze makes the annoucement that this will be their last year in Jamaica.

As always we take a listen to your voicemails, we have an especially incoherent one this week I’m sure you’re going to enjoy!

TWoL 5: Glitter and Fairy Wings

Hey all, we’re back after a bit of a hiatus. Nick had to go off and get married and Steve was sans internet for a while. It’s all good now as Steve is joined on the podcast by two ladies. Laura is back and she brought our good friend Joanne. With all these sis-brahs on this show, we had to talk about typical female personalities on lot. We’ve got the heady mamas, we’ve got the flat brim girls, we’ve got ‘em all. Laura and Joanne weigh in on why wings should be banned from shows and why the greatest lot food ever sold was found in Hartford.

There was a ton of news to cover tonight: Umphreys McGee is getting all innovative on us, moe. isn’t touring for a while, the Biscuits are serving up some fried chicken and twitter hijinks, and Phish…we’ll, they’re still messing with us via their website.

Enjoy the episode tonight! Nick will be back next week to fill us in on how he kept his wedding wook-free. (Hint: it involved candles made of unicorn blood.)

TWoL 4.5: The Fest-8-Up-Date

Welcome back brahs and sis-brahs! We’re coming at you this Wook Wednesday with a mini-episode. We’re only a month away from Fest 8 and our hosts Nick and Steve are having mixed feelings about the proposed album list. Joined by Noob Laura, the guys discuss their personal opinions about the album choices…and damn it, another flash site?!

Check out the list of possible Fest 8 musical costumes here.

Today is also a very special day for a very special red head. Happy birthday, Mr. Anastasio! Nick and Steve also reminisce about the announcement of the first hiatus and what that meant to them. As Noob Laura was only 15 at the time (and presumably at swim practice or something), she has no opinion on the matter. NOOB!

As always, we’re thankful for the voicemails we recieve…even when they’re calling us out on questionable beer choices.  DiscoSis1 gives the boys a stern lecture on proper beer selection and how they’re doing it wrong.

It’s a short and sweet Wook Wednesday for you! Enjoy!
