We’re not gonna lie. It was a tough night, kids. A slew of technical difficulties almost kept us from getting an episode on the books. Some perseverance from UNO finally got us off the ground a little over an hour behind schedule. Get that man a cigarette!
We dove right in to the news stories with a nod to our show’s title. You don’t want to get on Bobby’s bad side and we here at TWoL are in agreement with him. In other news we broke down the lineups for Camp Bisco, All Good, and Big Up and take a look at the Bowlive IV guests. Furthur has sold out 8 nights at the Cap and if you find yourself there you just might get questioned by DanMar. We’ll let her explain why. In other tour news, we’re “Still Waiting” for those Phish dates but SCI and WSP fans have something to shout about.
Tech News Tidbit: get on those Umphrey’s free ringtones this week.
After two nice voicemails (keep ‘em coming!) we debuted a new segment: Ask DanMar. This one already looks to be promising and we can’t wait to have the next batch of questions answered. If you want DanMar to answer your questions, (any and all questions) send inquiries to:
This week on the program, Steve, Danmar and I were excited to talk about Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, which all three of us attended at Brooklyn Bowl. We (along with the rest of NYC it seems) were stoked about some of our favorite musicians playing some awesome Dead covers. So if you weren’t there, give the show a spin and see what you missed.
And finally, we revisited DanMar’s fashion corner with an update on everyone’s favorite clothier, Esther’s Attic, and premiered a new segment called “What were you Googling, brah?”. During this segment we examined puzzling/funny Google searches that led people to our humble website. Listen in for details but let me just say it involved wooks, spunions, flat brims, dicks, mustaches and unicorns eating tacos (aka all the finer things in life).
Unfortunately we had no voice mails this week. I am starting to feel very neglected! Please call in your lot reports to 419.NO.WOOKS. Our episodes are way better when you guys are involved! Speaking of listener participation though, thanks to everyone in the chat room last night and to Ian for throwing us a donation this week!
This week on the podcast Toonces and I welcome new host Danmar. She has guested and manned our twitter account a few times over the last year and always to critical acclaim. So we spend a few minutes getting to know her better and then move on to discuss some of the recent updates to the website and the show’s syndication on the Stitcher app. At the end of the day, this should make the show easier for everyone to consume. For the second half of this week’s program, we give some quick updates on Trey and UM tour before sharing our thoughts on some Festie line-ups that dropped. Last but not least, we hit the voice mailbox and look ahead to what’s on our music calendars for the upcoming weeks.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TWoLers! It’s 2013 and we are off to a good start. Well, a start at least. On tonight’s episode, we (Steve – Toonces – Katie) give our account of the shenanigans at MSG for the Phish holiday run. The building, tickets, antics, and much more are on the agenda. I’d tell you more but this is a podcast after all. Next, we hit your “lot reports” which include some Bob Weir action, inquiries into our “website,” and a FUTUREBIRDS report. Finally, we look ahead to some upcoming shows: Umphrey’s McGee, Ryan Montbleau Band, EOTO, and Dark Star Orchestra.
We hope everyone out there had a great holiday season and wonderful new years.
This episode will be the gang’s last regular episode of 2012. Steve, Toonces and I recorded on a Tuesday night just like we used to. We discussed YEMSG, of course. We talked after parties, tweet-ups, the state of public trasportation post-Sandy, and the MSG renovations/death of MSG as we knew and loved it.
Toonces also ran through the Heavy Pets tour dates for the rest of the year. And if you are too busy Christmas shopping to hit up any more shows make sure you check out PhanArt’s Holiday Gift Guide. Finally we did a quick run through of what shows we have all seen recently.
Steve and I will be coming to you next with Special Reports from Mayan Holidaze. And check us out during YEMSG for Special Reports featuring us, Toonces, and special guests. We’ve been light on lot reports lately. Don’t forget to call and leave us a message at 419.NO.WOOKS.
Well, it’s been about a month since the last TWoL. Honestly though, it wasn’t our fault. There were quite the scheduling conflicts, Superstorm Sandy, and then live music. With so much to cover it was tough to decide where to start. Long story short, this episode contains reviews a plenty covering all the music we saw. This includes Trey, Phil, Everyone Orchestra, and Umphrey’s McGee. As a bonus, we also have PhanArt’s coverage of the Bear Creek Festival. Finally, we look ahead to Conspirator in NYC and Ryan Montbleau in Philly.
Hopefully you didn’t forget about us. We have lots in store for the fall and New Years. Stay tuned!!
To start, we are joined by special TWoL correspondent Danielle (aka @DanMar85) who held down the end of Phish summer tour on the twitterz for us. She gives some great tips about travel to the dirty south including info on the venues, where to stay, what beer to drink and more. Toonces was down south as well, and he’s got his own stories to share.
Next, Danielle goes deep on Dick’s with tons of protips for seeing Phish in the mile high city. Where to stay, how to get to the venue, and even what to wear is discussed. If you are thinking about going the next time Phish rolls through CO you don’t want to miss out. With the throw down being objectively epic this year and the rumors there are two more years left in the contract, there are no excuses not to go next year.
Finally, we had some great voicemails (419-NO-WOOKS) and then pondered the Bieber effect on Phish tour. Ever since his appearance at the leg 2 tour opener in Long Beach the internets have been a buzz. Beiber’s guitarist Dan Kanter is quite the head and has been tweeting about his run at Dick’s. The result: my tweetdeck is blowing up with 1,000s of RT’s from this instagram.
As usual, thanks for listening, tell a friend, and we will see you guys at Catskill Chill this weekend.
It’s been a few weeks but I’m back on TWoL again! Nick here, I took a little bit of a hiatus as I was traveling a lot for work and then went on vacation but I’m happy to be back!
This week Steve, Toonces, and I discuss all things festival and Phish. As the title eludes too, Toonces has been a traveling man too but alas he was going to see music and parties while I was going to see conference rooms and all inclusive resorts.
Toonces made his 7th year in a row at Gathering of the Vibes! This marks his 6th year in a row working ticketing and while the crowd seemed down slightly the process to get in went much smoother than last year. With the exception of some rain on Friday the weather was nice, cars were easily flowing in and people seemed pretty relaxed. Rosanne Bar took the opportunity to turn the festival into her place to announce she’s running for President, if wooks know how to vote you can bet she just earned a few votes. Toonces also had the opportunity to meet a rare breed of “mama bird” wookette, listen to the podcast for details on that.
The very next weekend Toonces was off to Floyd Fest for his second year in a row! This festival is super super green, to the point that they don’t even sell beers in plastic cups and you have to use reusable “canteen” style cups. This festival was complete with fire breathing dragon car, and wooks trying to sling h3tty crystals to little kids.
Steve is heading to a festival soon as well called Catskill Chill in NY. If you’re in the area TWoL recommends you check it out, details can be found at http://www.catskillchill.com/. The lineup looks pretty good with YMSB headlining and some other mixes of genres.
Phish tour leg 2 is about a week away from kicking off! I’m heading on “California Tour” to hit up the Long Beach show and the first 2 nights at Bill Graham in San Francisco. I’m hosting a “tweetup” at Whiskey Thieves to RSVP or for details on the event, sign up here. These tickets are tough to get so if you weren’t lucky enough to score some you can hit up couch tour. LivePhish.com has announced a webcast for all three nights. You can watch a individual night for $15 a show or get all 3 for $39, there’s even a package where you can buy the tour tee. On a related note we saw some folks arguing on twitter, etc. about the webcast and whether it’s a good or bad thing because of the supposed “curse” when a webcast occurs. Feel free to leave us a voicemail with your opinion, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number to dial.
Speaking of voicemails, thanks to those who left one, we appreciate you taking the time! Thank you to everyone for your support, we’ll see you on lot!
Since there is no show this week I wanted to kick down a quick update to the TWoL Nation.
Phish tour is just two days away and we will be on the scene reporting from Worcester. Look to us for colorful commentary on the scene outside and any major highlights from inside. Keep our Twitter & Facebook feeds handy for said updates. I won’t be bringing the studio with me, so no live streams on this outing (sad face).
Mr. Miner posted this morning about a mobile app called CrowdsEye. It appears to be a scavenger hunt based, social network type game. A Phish tour themed hunt begins tomorrow and runs through September 16th. Prizes include free tix, posters and copy of Miner’s book. I’ll be sure to download the app and see how it works. Expect a review on the next episode.
None of the #TWoL crew will be at Bonnaroo this year, so be sure to send us in a lot report (419-NO-WOOKS) and we will play it on the air. Next stop for us is Bader Field in Atlantic City, which is where our first tour broadcast will be. We are pleased to announce that we will be streaming live from the First Tube Poster Show at Trump Plaza on June 16th, around noon. We hope all of you will stop by, check out some art, and say hello. For those tuning in live, we will be in video and hope to bring you some artist interviews as well as the usual TWoL shenanigans and insight.
That’s all for now. Safe travels, be good, and thanks for listening.
It’s myself and PhanArt. He’s been on many a TWoL before. We talk about his recent trip to Hangout Fest and my trip to the Googa Mooga. We run through your voice mails. There’s some deep analysis re: Phish tour > tickets, the poster show, and tweetups. Lastly, no Steve/Pete TWoL would be complete without all the necessary Bisco updates. What does this mean for you? Laughter. Tears. Awkward moments.
This week, Steve and I were joined by a special guest from the Midwest, Josh Korin. After some brief housekeeping news (hint: keep your eyes peeled for more blog posts and written content from TWoL in the upcoming months), we dove right into the breaking news of the day. The initial artist announcement for Jamcruise 11 was announced today and features moe., MMS&W, and funk galore.
Next, Josh filled us in on UMbowl III, which happened last Friday night in Chicago. He was in attendance and gave a glowing review of the event. Check out his official review here. There’s also some great audio and video floating around for those who missed the show.
Next we did a quick ticket check for Phish tour legs 1 & 2. If you need tickets for nTelos, Jones Beach, or Bill Graham, hit up cashortrade.org, otherwise regular old Ticketmaster will do you. We also got a nice voicemail from the Wanee Festival, with a rave review of Buddy Guy. Now that festie season is starting add our number to your phone: 419.NO.WOOKS. We wanna hear from you!
We also gave you a rundown of upcoming festivals that we haven’t covered yet:
It’s not often that a concert occurs exactly where and when you want it to. This past Friday, 04.20.12, at the Roseland Ballroom, however, the EOTO show did just that for me. On this hippie holiday, one of the biggest party nights of the year for some, the super dark, packed dance floor was the perfect atmosphere for EOTO’s intricate beats and state of the art light show.
Drum roll please…..the second leg of Phish summer tour 2012 was finally announced today and we honestly aren’t sure what to think of the schedule. The long awaited announcement held some new surprises with the key word being new. Phish is playing 6 venues and 1 state that they have never played before. They’re also starting the second leg the same way the first began, with an appearance at an indoor venue. Tupac and Dr. Dre would be proud cause California is definitely getting some love. Tour kicks off in the LBC on a Wednesday night, not sure how well this show will sell. On the other hand there is a 3 night run at the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco that is the TWoL pick of the tour for the only hard tickets.
The long standing Phish trivia question of what states has Phish never played has been reduced by one, Oklahoma is finally getting some love. TWoL is calling out the Oklahoma City show as the sleeper show of the tour. The venue is call the Zoo for christ sakes, how can Phish not throw a crazy show after waiting 28 years to play the state and then playing a venue called the zoo? One word for any hippies heading to the Oklahoma show or the Birmingham, AL show…careful. Law enforcement tend not to take to kindly to brahs and sisbrahs wooking out in that part of the country. To get a more in depth look at the venues check out this comprehensive overview that Hidden Track put together.
Now for some non-Phish news. Emilie recently went to see Furthur in Boston and while their playing was a little lackluster overall it was a great venue and good times were had by all. In untz news Conspirator is back on tour so if you’re ready to get your flat brim kicking check out their tour schedule.
TWoL will be taking next week off unless some ground breaking news happens. Make sure to leave us a voicemail with your lot reports and we’ll play them on air. Also please fill out our poll this week and let us know your plans for 2nd leg of Phish Summer Tour 2012.
Hey, kids! This week yields a h3tty dose of bro with Steve squared going all Type II, nailing the transitions, and bringing you the news you need.
Both hosts had a healthy dose of music this past weekend, with UNO at EOTO/Shpongle and Toonces checking out PGroove. The shows were h3tty and the crowds were young. Way young. EOTO and Shpongle are touring pretty heavily right now, with dates together and also doing they own thang. PGroove has a few shows left before they hit festival season. All and all, we had a good time at both shows and got pretty in depth with the reviews. Don’t miss out.
Next we transition to some of our favorite, and what should be your favorite, things. Here’s the rundown:
-Our friends at GlowStickWars are having a bitchin’ Back to Tour Sale, with 20% off everything. That includes a few brand new, reusable items. Save money, save the earth, make it rain. And enter to win a 3-Day pass to Summer Camp while you’re at it.
-Umphreaks with tickets will be elated to hear that the UMBowl III ballots have been unveiled. Go on and get your vote on for your favorite 1st Quarter All Request Set songs and the 4th Quarter Raw Stewage Set jams. Check out the ballots this way.
-Have you ever seen a documentary for Phish heads by Phish heads? Maybe So, Maybe Not. That’s the title of a forthcoming movie by filmmaker Noah Wilderman. It’s about who Phish phans really are. We can’t really recall a movie about Phans before, so let us know if we’re mistaken. It could be memory loss due to our old age. You can check out the trailer here and we’ll have a review once the film is released.
-On Monday, Gathering of the Vibes released their initial lineup. Holy guacamole it looks sick! Dead rumors are sure to abound with all members in attendance and there’s plenty of great bands packed on to the bill. Toonces will be there, will you?
We all know UNO loves a ticket check, even a half of a ticket check. That’s what you get this week because nothing has changed since last week. NOTHING. Leg 2, anyone?
Lastly, Steve and Steve breeze through a couple of quick notes on festivals down south. Way down south. TWoL is happy to announce they will be at Mayan Holidaze. UNO is dedicated to bring you the live coverage you crave and promises the most epic end of the world face time convo ever. Mentally prepare yourselves. Jam Cruise has begun the prebooking for next year’s floating festie. We recommend you get on it. At the very least, throw your hat in the ring for four free passes courtesy of Magic Hat. Or don’t … this way we have better chances of winning
That’s all for this week. If anyone knows how to play Zombie/Wook/Alien please let us know. We just can’t remember. Must be the old age.
This week’s episode is jam packed with information about this summer’s happenings. First, we bring you a ticket check on all the leg 1 summer Phish dates. Basically, nTelos and Jones Beach are sold out but everything else is still up for grabs.
Next, we tackle all the Festie updates from the last few weeks. Check out the full episode for details and our take on the following festivals:
Happy Phish tour announcement week kids!! It’s the most wonderful time of the year besides, well, tour itself.
But first, a big congrats to TWoLer Stuart White, winner of our Aura Music Festival ticket giveaway. Stuart won a pair of tickets to this festie, being held down in FL March 9-11. Remember to follow TWoL on Facebook and Twitter and keep your eyes peeled for upcoming ticket giveaways and you could be our next big winner.
As I’m sure all of you heard, Phish summer tour leg 1 was announced in typical Phishy fashion yesterday, on Leap Day, with a hilarious and only slightly disturbing video detailing Fishman’s pre-tour training regimen. The tour includes stops at many of Phish’s favorite stomping grounds like Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, SPAC and Jones Beach. There is also some kind of mini-festival stop in Atlantic City (don’t forget your Maltese Falcon). You can request tickets through PTBM until Monday, March 12th. Listen along as we discuss each stop, the flow of the tour in general and TWoL’s plans for the summer.
Also in this episode we discuss Ticketmaster’s new iOS app, released just in time for Phish on-sales. In more ticket news, Bonnaroo and Phil Lesh had some major ticket debacles in the last few weeks. And in festival news we talked about the All Good and Mountain Jam lineups.
And of course, we heard your voicemails. Including perhaps the most epically crude voicemail that TWoL has ever received. Don’t miss this one! And don’t forget to call in and profess your love to us (or to just leave a plain old fashioned lot report) at 419.NO.WOOKS.
Big news of the week is the long awaiting first wave of artists announcements at Bonnaroo. Heavily rumored headliners Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Phish were kangfirmed. This year there is a ton of camping, ticketing, and food options. One new thing is the Groop Camping, and no that’s not a typo it’s actually spelled with two O’s to play off the festivals’ name, Bonnaroo. If you’ve got a ton of friends we suggest you look into Groop Camping, it’s closer to Centeroo and a guarantees you camp next to your friends no matter when they arrive. Nick is planning on going and of course he will be going VIP RV so he can stay wook free! TWoL recommends you do the same! Also don’t forget tickets go on sale this Saturday, Feb 18th at noon EST.
Keeping with the festival news the AURA Music Festival is going on outside of Orlando, FL on March 9th-11th. TWoL will be giving away a pair of tickets to the festival. Follow us on twitter, @thisweekonlot and post that you would like to go to the @auramusicevents. And / or you can follow us on Facebook and leave a comment on the post from this episode. We will randomly select a winner by 2/27 and announce on the show the next night.
In Phish news this week there hasn’t been any tour dates announced (save Bonnaroo) but there was some new merch on the Phish Dry Goods site. You can now purchase Fishman dress inspired iphone and imac skins and hardcases. Steve just bought a iphone case and swears he won’t get this one…but I’m betting it shows up at his doorstep sooner than later.
This week we are asking our listeners to call in and leave us messages about Bonnaroo. It can be anything, thoughts about attending this year, previous Bonnaroo stories, advice, etc. The number is 419-NO-WOOKS so make sure to program it in your phone!
Thanks to everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
And just like that, YEMSG is over. But we still wanna talk about it. This week, Steve, Katie and Toonces tackle some hard hitting news topics: the ticket situation, the rainbow unicorn army, new MSG layout and security, train tacos, and other stuff that also happened. Musically this may have not been the best run of the year, but the MSG party never disappoints.
Thanks to the listeners who called in from Phish, moe., and STS9. We still wanna hear about all the other NYE shows across the land. It’s never to late to call in a lot report at 419.NO.WOOKS.
In other news, Phil Lesh finally found a home for his ramble style Terrapin Crossroads. The first performances are scheduled for March 2012. Road trip anyone??
Led Zeppelin cover band extraordinaire Bustle in Your Hedgerow returns to Brooklyn Bowl on January 26th and 27th. Featuring Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Scott Metzger and Joe Russo, this is a Brooklyn tradition not to be missed!
And finally, Jam Cruise anticipation has reached fever pitch! Steve and Noob Laura sail this Monday so stay tuned for updates and special reports from the boat.
Happy 2012 everyone! Here’s to a ragin’ and music filled year!
This week on lot Steve, Katie and Toonces learned that Phish is not the only band playing on NYE. Who knew? We discuss Hidden Track’s extensive run down of NYE shows across the land. And remember, TWoL wants to hear about all of your NYE shenanigans so leave us a lot report at 419.NO.WOOKS in all of your tipsy NYE glory. If you are in NYC for Phish, Mule or AoD don’t forget about the variety of Phish after parties going on around the city.
During ticket check we were left speechless when we learned that YEMSG tickets are going for as much as $250,000. Since this is clearly not an option, don’t forget that you can enter to win NYE tickets from both Cash or Trade and Magic Hat. Toonces also brought a listener question to the table about how to tell if you are being scammed in secondary market ticket sales.
Next, we discussed some 2012 festival news. It’s never to early to start planning your summer festie season kids. One of the earliest festivals of the year is Some Kind of Jam 7, held in late April in PA. Wakarusa tickets went on sale last weekend. Check out that one, scheduled for May 31-June 3 in AR. Also, Summer Camp, returning to IL on Memorial Day weekend, will begin announcing its line up this week.
We had fantastic lot reports this week from SCI, Cornmeal, and Skydog. And we of course talked about our recent shows: moe., SCI, 311 and Big Gigantic.
Also, check out the Kickstarter fundraiser to get the Everyone Orchestra album made. The album features a ton of our favorite musicians and promises to be a great example of true improvisation.
Finally, a big shout out to our our patron this week, Stuart, for his generous donation. Always appreciated!
We have Steve, Nick, and Emilie this week. Emilie is back on the carnivore side and has kicked the veggie lifestyle to the curb, hence our episode title for the week. Chicken waaangs are an amazing thing in everyday life but after you haven’t had them for a year? You better believe they are amazing.
But I digress, on to this weeks news. Let’s start with Trey news as there was a few things this week. Trey has announced an Orchestra Tour with three dates in Feb and one in March spread across the country. He’s also recording a new solo album with the members of TAB and has noted he will be “taking a whole new direction” for this album, whatever that means. The TWoL crew is divided on whether or not this will be a good album. Personally I think it will work out in the end but only time will tell.
Moving along to Phish news, Watkins Glen track official Ryan Lake has announced that the venue will focus on racing events for 2012 so no return for a festival this year. While not shocking that Phish is not playing there again so soon, it doesn’t mean they won’t return in the future. The majority of TWoL attend Superball so we’re really hoping for a return sometime in the future. In our last bit of Phish news we would like to point out the many after-shows for each night of the MSG run. If you managed not to wook-out at the main event we hope to see you late night!
Even though it’s nearly winter there is still some festival news this week. All Good has announced they will move from their WV location to Legend Valley in Ohio. Legend Valley (formerly Buckeye Lake) has hosted many amazing bands, festivals, and concerts over the years. In a period where most festivals only last a short time TWoL gives kudos to All Good for 16 years of jamband love.
As of right now Jam Cruise 10 takes off in 39 days and if you don’t have your tickets well you’re pretty screwed cause it’s sold out. But…not to fret! Jam Cruise 11 prebooking starts Dec 1st so you can always go next time!
We received a few voicemails this week, thanks to all who took the time to leave one. Don’t forget the number is 419-NO-WOOKS program it in your phone!
Thank you to everyone that supports us and we’ll see you next week on lot!
This week on lot, the podcast moved into the future and used our video capabilities during the show. Much to our dismay, this means we learned that Nick’s lucky show attire is a “wife-beater.” An American choice for sure, but now I have that image forever burned into my brain.
Excitingly, we also had a special guest this week: Andrew (aka “the Canadian”) from Glow Stick Wars! For those of you who have been living under a rock, Glow Stick Wars has one Phish NYE ticket that they are giving away. Check out the contest rules here. Andrew also weighed on more general issues surrounding glow sticks, including the plan to have a Pre-Show Glow Stick War on the 28th as the boys hit the stage and the debate over the environmental side effects of glow stick wars.
Moving right along to Steve’s favorite topic: Jamcruise. The schedule is up! Check out the themes, special events, activities, workshops and more.
YEMSG after parties are being announced almost daily at this point but make sure to check out Dog Gone Blog’s after party with Superhuman Happiness at the Cakeshop on December 30th.
In Umphrey’s news, the band announced a string of 2012 tour dates across the country for February and March as well as a sUMmer school event in August. This camping event, aimed at aspiring musicians, will feature workshops with the band as well as performances by them.
Surrender to the Flow will be hosting Phish Yoga in NYC this Thursday, November 17th. Get your mind and body right for YEMSG for just $20.
Rounding out the episode we learned that all our hosts have been lame for the last few weeks but you guys have not. Thanks as always for the great voicemails! Remember kids, the number is 419.NO.WOOKS. Keep us posted!
Had a few technical difficulties this week and started a little late, thanks to those that waited in the chat room. This week we talk Roger Waters, Phish, and Toonces’ pink flamingo.
Roger Waters has announced that we will bring the Pink Floyd classic The Wall to the United States as part of his world tour. He will be hitting west coast and east coast alike so if you have a chance to see this we highly recommend it. Also tickets go on sale Nov 14th and will most likely sell out very quickly.
Now for your weekly dose of Phish news! The long awaited Hampton 97 Box Set is on presale right now, hit up Phish Dry Goods to preorder. Trey talks about his upcoming musical that will debut California next year. Mr. Miner will be having a book signing in NYC for the Phish New Years Run. Last but not least Nick gives a rant about how there’s no need to freak out about getting shut out for Phish tickets 10 minutes after the onsale.
In non Phish news, The Disco Biscuits are releasing an oldie but goodie show from Princeton in 2000. This show is a fan favorite and even if you aren’t a fan of Bisco this show might change your mind.
We received a lot of great voicemails this week, thank you to everyone who took the time. The number is 419-NO-WOOKS for those who don’t know!
Thank you again everyone for the support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
This week, Steve, Emilie and Katie tackled the big news of the day: YEMSG lottery emails have arrived!! Of course we were all big losers. But someone out there must have gotten tickets right? Congrats to the winners and please share the wealth! And don’t forget about public on sale Saturday October 29th at noon.
If you were a winner or a loser in the lottery you should still check out the great after shows happening NYE weekend. Bisco announced that they are playing December 28th late night so that they wouldn’t conflict with Phish. Check out the details for that and the rest of their NYE run here. Also for all you late night folks, Wyllys will be bringing his NY Hustler Ensemble (featuring the lovely and talented Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman) to Sullivan Hall for an after show on the 31st. We also discussed a rumor about a possible Marco Benevento after show on December 29th. Keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement kids!
Next, Steve filled us in on TAB’s October 12thshow at the Wellmont. He found it to be a great show for a $20 ticket with straightforward Trey rock. And in the Ticket Check we learned that you can still see them at the Tabernacle on November 11th for cheap! Also in Ticket Check, scalpers and crazy people are already posting YEMSG tickets for sale despite the fact that lottery announcements just started rolling in. At least wait for public onsale people… And finally, Jamcruise is sold out, sorry folks! But give a shout out to Steve and Noob Laura on the boat!
Looking ahead we checked out Mr. Miner’s long awaited book release. Railroad Earth is also doing a sweet Thanksgiving weekend in Stroudsburg, PA full of bluegrass, art, poetry and food.
Emilie has been a busy girl up in Boston and gave us recaps on Little Dragon at the Royale and The Low Anthem at the Somerville Theater. She’s looking forward to Blizten Trapper, Dawes, and Dark Star Orchestra. Steve and Katie will be hitting up the Lawn Boys this weekend in NYC for some epic Halloween show action.
That’s all she wrote this week. Go catch some shows and leave us lot reports: 419-NO-WOOKS. ‘Til next time, peace!
Steve, Katie and Steve discussed the brah who got beat down on lot in Colorado for simply selling his wares. The Denver Westword wrote a long piece detailing the facts, laws, etc. Do you have a good Phish lot confiscation story? Leave us a voicemail: 419-NO-WOOKS.
Next up: All Trey all the time! TAB tour began this week with a benefit at Higher Ground for Hurricane Irene victims. They debuted two new songs and the show is available on LivePhish for all those who can’t wait for AUDs. This week Trey hits the Carolinas and Maryland. Check out the Ticket Rundown for prices near you.
Jam Cruise announced its Theme Nights: Mothership Masquerade, Go Green and Yacht Club. Get your creative costume juices flowing! And for those of you still on the fence, only 35 cabins left.
Next up TWoL’s shows for the week. Toonces hit WSP, with an unsurprisingly questionable crowd. Of course, he fit right in. He also hit PGroove with listener @RickRoth3. And finally, Dayglow – body paint, neon lights and DJs. What else could you ask for?
In the meantime, Steve and Katie hit Conspirator at Brooklyn Bowl. Steve says it was his favorite Conspirator show – The Wall/Shakedown mash-up was a highlight! Katie followed that up the next night by a show by the London Souls at Brooklyn Bowl, a NYC band who has a modern take on the 70’s – if you like Hendrix or Zeppelin, check them out.
That’s it for this TWoL. Looking forward to Emily’s return next week and hoping that Nick doesn’t get seduced by Wooks with crystals and promises of free heady grilled cheese for life…
There once was a band that quit then came back then quit then…well you get the picture. Sadly this is also a podcast that is having the same thing happen. Our own Noob Laura is calling it “quits” again, until the next time she comes back. The over/under on her return is 2 months. I’m personally going with the under, I don’t think she can stay away.
Firs thing on the agenda is an abandoned ginger seal. This poor bastard was left by his family in Russia. This has nothing to do with jambands other than I personally think it look a little bit like Trey from Phish. Just look at his eyes, looks like he is ready to bust out ASIHTOS at any moment.
Like jello shots? If so here’s 10 jello shot versions that are sure to turn heads if you sell them on lot. The best thing is that you will completely price the riff-raff and wooks out with these fancy versions.
Steve and Laura are planning on hitting up the Stir Fry Music Festival in PA next weekend. If you’re in the area it’s a good festival to check out before it gets too cold!
Don’t forget to leave us voicemails about what’s going in your lot! 419-NO-WOOKS is the number, make sure to program it in your phone.
Thank you to everyone who supports us, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Rocky Mountain high, Colobrahdo. I think it’s safe to say we’re all on a high after the weekend’s tour closers in Colorado. This week’s show title is not only a nod to the “S” show on September 2nd, but it also stands for Steve Squared since that’s who we have on the mics this go round. S2 share their thoughts on the streams, from quality and connectivity to how they actually enjoyed them. Sounds like Uno had the more epic watching party.
With all the raging that went down at Dick’s this past weekend we can’t believe there was not one single voicemail. Come on! You guys know we sit by the phone eagerly awaiting each call. Ok, maybe not, but we do look forward to hearing from the field. You gotta call in the lot reports!
In the news this week, Umph is about to tear down NYC with a 4 night run at Brooklyn Bowl. Despite its very Brooklyn crowd, BK Bowl is one of TWoL’s favorite venues. I mean, bowling and live music? Duh!
Earlier in the year we reported that Langerado was ready to get back on the horse, but as it turns out that horse won’t run. With very little details actually know at this time, they have released a statement simply saying that they’ve had to cancel the fest for this year and refunds would be available. Bummer.
In two other tidbits, a “lost” Jon Fishman interview surfaced in CO this weekend. A freelance writer submitted it to the Denver Westword as a new interview, but it turns out it was a Relix interview from 1996.
KDTU is getting in on some musical costume action this fall, announcing an October run that will have them covering the classic Rolling Stones album “Sticky Fingers.” The tour will feature members of Slightly Stoopid as well as a show with Rose Hill Drive where RHD will cover “Who’s Next” by The Who. Funktacular.
Finally this week, we start a new piece titled “What I learned this summer.” While escaping hurricane Irene at a festival, Toonces put down some thoughts to wrap up the summer season. Look for our other hosts to share their insights in upcoming episodes.
This week we had one-half of the duo who are responsible for CashorTrade.org and LiveMusicMatch.com, welcome Brando! Make sure to check out Cash or Trade if you need/have a ticket for face or want to sell, that’s the place to go. If you’re interesting in meet a love interest or just making friends that are into the jamband scene then check out Live Music Match.
Big news of the week is that Ticketmaster and Facebook struck a deal. They are now offering a social experience where you can see what tickets your friends have already purchased. If the show isn’t sold out this could be kind of cool, the TWoL crew is on the fence on this one.
In untz news The Disco Biscuits are hitting up Vegas after the Identity festival. Will Nick go and get his untz on? Will he finally accept the flatbrims for who they are? Only time will tell.
moe. announced a few shows in New York near Thanksgiving. They will be throwing down with Dumpstahphunk opening up for them. Should be a great time!
To end our Phish coverage for the 3rd leg ( and maybe for the year) there will be a webcast this weekend of the Colorado shows. You can buy each night individually or a 3 night package. Kind of interesting that they are offering this webcast, it’s the first time they’ve done so for shows that aren’t sold out.
We’re a little sad here at TWoL, we didn’t receive any voicemails this week. What’s with that??? Make sure if you’re out and about this weekend at the Colorado Phish shows or any show in general you leave us a lot report.
Thanks everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Well, there wasn’t too much going on this week but we did manage to cover a few stories. Check out the links below and give the episode a listen to hear the details.
String Cheese Incident (SCI) is having a mini run over Thanksgiving and the first few days of December. It’s all on the East coast though so it should be interesting to see the turn out. The tour schedule is only 9 days, so their keeping it short and sweet.
Jam Cruise is having a theme night, a poker tournament, and a pool party! Sounds like you won’t get bored on this boat cruise. A few rooms are still available for those of you who might want to make a last minute trip.
Looks like Firestone don’t take no crap from no one when it comes to their logo usage or the likes of it. A Phan is getting sued for using a parody on some merchandise.
Our buddies Steve and Jared from GroupMe have made a deal with Skype and will be partnering with them to take things to the next level. Congratulations guys! TWoL has been a big supporter of GroupMe and we use it at nearly every show and festival we attend.
There is an essay contest to win some free tickets to the upcoming Phish shows in Colorado. If you still need tickets give it a shot!
Thank you everyone who left us a voicemail this week, keep them coming! We’ll see you next week on lot!
It’s been a long day for some of us here at TWoL but we managed to put together a pretty good episode for you this week!
Big news of the week is that we’re going to be streaming live from the Jambase office on August 12 at 3:3o pm EST with Andy Gadiel. We will be going through all the voicemails we receive this week and discussing predictions for the two Phish sets at Outside Lands as well as any comments our listeners have about the festival and lineup in general. Make sure to leave us a voice message this week and we’ll play it!
The schedule for Outside Lands was announced today, make sure you check it out so you can get your plans set. Don’t wook out and sleep in as there are some good early shows! The festival ends at 10 pm each night so make sure you make the most of it. There are late night shows available but you have to buy a ticket to these events. One thing we here at TWoL are excited about is the plethora of food options available.
It’s been a while so we decided to give you guys a ticket check this week. Looks like our predictions are coming true, tickets are going to be dirt cheap, save Tahoe and UIC. Our advice is to see if you can get an extra on lot and if not you can just walk up to the box office and buy one.
Following the footsteps of the Alpharetta shows from leg one this summer, Phish is going to be webcasting the two shoes from Tahoe, NV. You can get each single night or buy both nights for a discounted cost. Both TWoL West and TWoL East will be purchasing these. We plan on having a podcast during setbreaks so be on the lookout for that.
Thanks to everyone who supports us and leaves voicemails, we’ll see you next week on lot!
It’s been a crazy few weeks for the TWoL crew. Between us we’ve been to festivals on both sides of the country, seen some Phish, seen some untz, and everything in between. The last few updates have been special episodes first from Phish SBIX and then from Camp Bisco. We hope you enjoyed those special reports we definitely like being able to give on the spot updates.
This week we have Steve, Emilie and myself on. Emilie gives a quick rundown of the HSMF that she attended. While it sounds like she had a slight case of Phish festival regret the overall festival was amazing. Especially the h3tty organic foam pit, you’ll have to listen to get the details.
TWoL is all about live music (mainly focused on jambands) so we thought it would irresponsible for us not to point out that the Gathering of the Juggalos is coming up on Aug 11th. Everybody’s favorite winner Charlie Sheen is set to host one night along with Dustin Diamond. The festival has so much going on it promises to provide 24/7 activities from wrestlers to Faygo wet t-shirt contests. In the words of the immortal James Brown, please please please if you know someone attending have them leave a lot report! We’re curious to see what exactly happens at this event. 419-NO-WOOKS is the number!
Our brahs over at Cash or Trade have started a new site called LiveMusicMatch.com where you can try and find a h3tty moma. This is basically a site to make friends (or more) with people who are into the same music you are.
Jam Cruise 10 has added a few more bands to their lineup. If you haven’t got your tickets for Jam Cruise yet make sure you do so right away, tickets are about 90% sold out!
Perpetual Groove is having a Facebook contest to win tickets to their 5 upcoming shows in Florida. Check out this link for the details on how you can win. If you’ve never seen Perpetual Groove we recommend you get your ass out to these shows!
If you’re going to go to the traveling untz circus that is the Identify Festival check out this link to have a chance of winning an upgraded ticket.
We had a lot of new voice mails to play and a lot of first time callers. Thank you to everyone who left us a message we appreciate you taking the time!
Two cool new music applications where released recently and we just wanted to give them a shout out. Spotify allows users to stream music and create playlists they can share with friends at a portion of the cost of iTunes. Turntable allows users to be their own virtual DJ. While we don’t know much about this new service it sounds cool, check it out and let us know what you think.
That wraps it up for this week, make sure you take a listen to the episode to get all the details. We’ll see you next week on lot!
I’m sitting in the airport right now waiting to board my flight to Phish Superball IX so I’ve got to make this quick! Be on the lookout for live streams and updates for TWoL this weekend as 4 members of the our crew are attending Superball IX.
First on the agenda this week was a quick discussion of Hidden Track survey results of leg one Phish tour. We’re very excited that TWoL and our sister site type II cast received shoutouts. Big Ups to Parker for putting this together. We appreciate everyone that voted for us and we promise to keep the updates, news, and lulz coming!
Speaking of Phish there is a great deal coming out of Sirius radio this weekend. You can stream all the shows live as they are happening if you have a Sirius connection. Furthermore you can sign up for one for free and if you decide you don’t like it just cancel within 30 days. Get your couch tour on for free!
Headcount is back again with their photo contest at Superball IX. This time you can win a Jim Pollock custom illustration! All you need to do is head to the Headcount booth in the SuperBall IX concert field and get your picture taken. The photos are then uploaded to Facebook and whichever photo gets the most “likes” will be the winner. Even if you don’t win you still get a free voucher for some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream so how can you lose!
While 80% of the TWol crew will be at Superball IX we are going to have some West Coast representation at High Sierra Music Festival. Emilie will be attending this festival and also sending out tweets. Make sure you keep an eye out for the hash tag #TWoLWest if HSMF is something you’re interested in.
TWoL can’t be everywhere and this year we won’t be at the Electric Forest Festival. If you’re attending this festival make sure to leave us a voicemail and we’ll play it on air. The number is 419-NO-WOOKS make sure to program it in your phone!
We only received one voicemail this week people…one! You can do better than that! Remember we accept voicemails from concerts, lots, parks, your living room, anywhere is cool with us!
Ok, we’ll I’m getting paged to get on the plane here so I’ll see everyone at Superball IX on lot!
PS: We will be at the Phish Twibe meetup on Sunday, be sure to stop by and say Hi!.
Well as the title alludes to, it’s 107 in Vegas and Nick has some serious schwetty ballz! Pretty seriously it’s really hot in Vegas this week! This week we go old school on you and bring back the original TWoL lineup. We’ve got Steve, Nick, and Noob Laura representing!
Now on to the news and discussions for this week. First up we just had to inform everyone about the great deal that our friends at GlowStickWars.com is putting on at Phish Superball IX and at Camp Bisco 10. You can use 3 different codes to get whatever deal suits you. The best part is that they are delivering to the festival! That’s right you order online and then pick them up at the festival in the vendor section. Here’s where some serious customer service comes in, if you can’t pickup the order for any reason you get a refund no questions asked! Sounds like a good deal to us!
What are you bringing to Superball IX? Sunscreen? Crusty North Eastern wook spray? Poop tent? We run through what to bring and what not to bring. With all of TWoL experience at festivals there’s something for noobs and vets alike in this discussion.
In untz news the Silent Disco was announced at Camp Bisco 10! Eff Yes! Silent Disco! Nothing better than watching the sun come up with a pair of bateria-laden headphones strapped to your head and a thin layer of festival grime covering your body. WE LOVE CAMP BISCO.
Next on the agenda we run through your voicemails. Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave one. Speaking of time, we respectively ask that you keep the voicemails to a minute or less. It’s not that we don’t appreciate what you have to say, we just want to make sure have enough time to play everyone’s messages and keep the show around 30 minutes long. One more thing to note, we love lot reports but also feel free to leave us a message about anything you want.
HeadCount did a recent study on the demographic of the people who attend Bonnaroo. It’s very interesting to read the results. Some of the TWoL crew was more shocked than others to see the outcome. HeadCount will be at a dozen other festivals this summer so if you see them take the survey!
Thanks again everybody for the support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
(Note: please excuse the low end hum that is present on the audio. I apologize in advance, and will work on fixing for next week. Thanks - Steve)
What’s shaking, kids? TWoL comes at you this week as summer tour is in full swing, and we waste no time getting down to the nitty gritty. While we were bringing you the goods last night, Noob Laura was on the scene in Great Woods with her Noob Mom. And speaking of moms, Steve fills us in on the PNC shows, where UnoMom got her phirst taste of the band on night 2. She was impressed by the Chuck Norris look-alike on guitar and was quite the trooper. You go UnoMom!
We got a sultry dose of Emilie this week as she gave us her thoughts on the Bethel run. Magical sums it up nicely. She waxed poetic on the benefits of being a Bethel Woods member, the lush lawn, friendly staff, and tidy bathrooms. Basically, don’t sleep on tour openers, especially if their in Bethel!
Moving forward, we’ve got Camden and MPP up this weekend, where all of TWoL East will be in attendance. There won’t be a mobile studio, but you can rest assured that we’ll be keeping you updated through the social media tronz and have a full recap for you next week. A quick ticket check shows prices holding steady, and fairly low for some of the southern shows. That might change soon, however. Pro tip: always check the box office if you strike out in lot. Also, we’ve discovered that if you already have tickets and there’s a re-release, you have a good chance at getting an upgrade via the box office or via phone.
There was a slew of voicemails this week. Thanks for all the calls! We’ll hear from a Rodney Dangerfield sound-alike, Mountain Jam, and the weekends shows. Keep those lot reports coming!
Lastly, we got so caught up talking about the Phish that we just about ran out of time for other news:
Long short, Camp Bisco VIP tickets are selling fast so don’t sleep on them. Steve and Nobb Laura will there on the scene providing complete coverage. Be sure to say hi.
Finally, we got an email from our friend M@ about a new program he was hoping to test at Great Woods, called Crowd Lights. Basically you can download the app for Droid or Iphone, and you become the light show. Theoretically, if everyone opens the app and faces their phones to the band, they get a light show from us. Sounds pretty cool. If you were in Mansfield, let us know if you saw the test and what you thought. Neat.
Lot’s of topics were covered this week including the surprising news that Yasgur’s Farm is no longer an option for folks camping on Memorial Day Weekend. Yasgur’s farm was set to hold late night concerts and camping after the near by Bethel Phish shows. Those plans have been dashed as the owners of Yasgur’s Farm now face a $25k fine for violating a 2006 agreement to not mass gatherings on their property. You can read more about this news here.
We run through a quick Phish ticket check. Looks like nearly all tickets can be found for below face. Not a shocker considering the amount of shows being played and the size of the venues.
After we beat the Phish news to death we talk about bugs. Small, slimy, ugly, creepy, crawly bugs. The 13 year cicadas are going to be out in full force a few weeks before the Bonnaroo music festival. Fear not though if you are attending. Cicadas are harmless and they should be mostly gone…well except for a few straggler cicadas that decided to wook out and totally spaced when they were supposed to arrive.
In one more bit of Bonnaroo news regular tickets have sold out! If you’re planning on attending this year you better get a VIP ticket or you’re going to be stuck out front with a finger in the air.
The Austin City Limits lineup has leaked and this year looks pretty good! Presale tickets sold out weeks in advance before this leak, however you can still get single day tickets for $90. Single day tickets are expected to run out faster than a one for $3 two for $5 sale on Sammy Smith bombers so get yours while you can.
As always we run through the voicemails we received, thank you to everyone who left us a report. We can’t be everywhere at once so make sure while you’re out on the lot you give us an update! 419-NO-WOOKS is the number to call!
Thank you to everyone that supports us, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Thanks to Rick R. for the pics of River Rock Music Fest.
No guest this week but we run through some announcements, voicemails, and a story about a boy and his tent and where it should have been.
Jam Cruise 10 lineup was released, the lineup looks pretty solid. Only thing to complain about this year is there are only 2 stops scheduled. Both in cities we haven’t really heard of or understand. If you’ve got some experience with these cities leave us a comment on the blog or a voicemail as we would love feedback.
We’ve been covering a lot of the “untz” lately and this episode is no different. There were some more additions added to Camp Bisco 10. Pack your flatbrim and get ready to dance your ass off till the sunrise!
There’s a new festival with a new concept called Identity. All the details haven’t been released yet but the basic concept is a group of electronic style bands are going to get together and play venues that they normally wouldn’t be able to fill on their. So far tDB, Pretty Lights, and DJ Shadow have been announced as participants. More bands are expected as well as more details, stay tuned.
The Finger Lakes Grass Roots Festival has been announced. This festival has been going on for over 20 years, TWoL recommends checking it out if you can. Don’t forget to leave us a lot report if you do!
Finally we get around to the story about a boy, his tent, and a pile of wook vomit. Unfortunately it happened to TWoLs’ very own Steve this last weekend at the Jibberjazz festival. The festival was great, but the wookery was not. Better luck next time Steve!
As always we go through all the voicemails we receive, thank you to all that left us one! The number to the voicemail box is 419-NO-WOOKS make sure to hit us up if you see any live music or if you’re just bored and wanna vent.
Last but not least we have a poll running right now, make sure to leave your vote on how you did with Phish leg 2 onsale. You can either click this link to get to the poll or scroll down in your browser.
Thank you everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
There isn’t too much going on this week so this episode was basically a lot of ranting so take it with a grain of salt.
One of the points we did cover was the Railroad Earth show at the Wellmont Theater. Steve is planning on hitting this show up so make sure to keep an eye on the TWoL twitter feed for lot updates. If you are in the area, be sure to come out. Not only is it their 10th anniversary show, Jackie Greene will be supporting.
We also saw that Phish announced the details for their volunteer program at SuperBall IX. Basically you have to give them your credit card and have a “hold” put on it. Once you prove you’re not a total spunion or crusty wook and actually work your shift the hold is removed and alas you see the show for $15.
Lastly we would like to point out that there are only 30 VIP tickets for Friday at Gathering Of The Vibes. Better snag a ticket kick brahs and sisbrahs as these are going quick!
We spend a lot of time around here focusing on Phish and The Disco Biscuits, this week it’s all about Umphrey’s McGee!
Our guests this week are Benjamin Slayter, photograph extraordinaire, and Kevin Browning, Umphrey’s McGee engineer & producer. We talk through the UMBowl II experience with the guys and find out what it’s like to experience this unique event. For an indepth review of the show see this review with some great photographs. It’s all things UM this week, Steve and Laura even share a little love story that takes place at a UM show.
If you want to check out UM you can find their tour schedule here. It kicks off today at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, TX. If you’re out and about on this “unofficial holiday” hit up some great music and then satisfy your munchies with some BBQ.
Lastly we run through your voicemails, thank you to everyone who left us a message. Don’t forget to keep them coming, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.
Thank you to all our supporters and fans, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Tons of things were discussed on the podcast this week, let’s get right to it!
Adam from Phish.net was back on the show again to unveil some new features of their website. Take a listen to find out what’s new.
Phish announced the 2nd leg of their summer tour. Looks like the west coast is finally getting some love. Highlights of the tour include 2 nights at The Gorge, and 2 sets at the Outside Lands musical festival in San Francisco.
Speaking of Phish, looks like we’re having a repeat of last year where scalpers are advertising Phish tickets before they are even available through the lottery or on sale. This time the culprit is Ticket Network. Please feel free to give them a piece of your mind on twitter, their handle is @TicketNetwork.
In our last piece of Phish news it looks like there’s finally a flat breezy for all you untz loving Phish fans. This item is not on Phish Dry Goods website so this might not even be real. If you want to take a look at the rumored flat brim hat check out this link.
Prince is taking a page from his last tour at MSG and has booked 21 nights at the forum in LA. That’s a whole lot of high heels and scarves he’s going to have to lug out west.
For you creatures of the night, Bonnaroo has announced their late night bands. There’s something for everyone in this lineup.
Furthur also announced their summer tour this week. If you ask us it’s pretty damn ambitious, they have booked nearly every big shed this summer.
After nearly 12 years The New Deal is calling it quits. You can catch them on their farewell tour this summer. Goodbye and good luck guys!
We run through the voicemails and even manage to answer some travel questions for a fan this week. Thank you to everyone who left us a message, keep them coming!
Thank you for the support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Is the highly anticipated 9th Phish festival about to be announced? Hell we don’t know, there’ s been so much speculation at this point anything is possible. Speaking of anything being possible, the name of the Watkins Glen festival is rumored to be SuperBall 9. Online Phish Tour broke the news after some serious internet sleuthing about who owns the web domain. Read all the details here.
The schedule for the Rock and Roll Resort Festival has been released! Each night has a party theme and suggestion of what to wear. Make sure if you haven’t yet to get your tickets for this exclusive party!
We run through most of the voicemails we received but had to leave out a few. Thank you to everyone who left us a lot report! If we missed yours we’ll get to it next week! Don’t forget to program us in your phone 419-NO-WOOKS is the number!
Ever brought a parent to a jamband show? And said parent wasn’t exactly a fan? Or even remotely into the scene? Leave us a comment on the blog and tell us about it. Steve will be taking his mom to PNC for Phish and wants to know about your experiences.
Thanks again for the support everyone, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Well just as the title suggests our own resident Noob Laura is back as a guest cohost this week. Along with Toonces (aka Steve T.) Laura will be rotating as a cohost. Welcome back Laura!
The first order of business tonight on the TWoL agenda was the cryptic tweets that Watkins Glen president Mr. Michael Printup. Starting last Friday morning (March 18th) Michael sent out a tweet saying “I think I am going phishing this weekend” he sent proceeded to send out a few more cryptic tweets hinting out the announcement of the long rumored Phish festival. On Sunday night he crushed many a phans hopes and dreams when he tweeted that his “surprise” announcement may be delayed.
Well Mr. Printup TWoL would like to offer you an invitation and some advice. The invitation is to come on our show and explain your comments and choice to tease the phans. The advice is to NOT do it again, it’s killing us. But seriously in all good fun we would love to have you on the show anytime before or during the festival that we all know is eventually going to be announced.
The only hangup to the festival seems to be found in an article our buddy Scotty from Yemblog posted. The basis of the article states that there is no permit from Schuyler County, county officials say an application hasn’t been filed yet. Hopefully this will happen soon and we can all stop going nuts over the rumors.
Got your tickets for Mayan Holidaze? Good because if you don’t you’re most likely screwed. This exotic musical adventure works on the token system and if you haven’t gone in the past your only option is to get on the waiting list and pray. Steve found that out the hard way, you’ll have to listen to the episode to get the full details.
The Jam in the ‘Dam initial lineup has been announced, there’s no indication yet whether more bands are added. Our reaction so far has been meh. We like all the bands playing but for that much money it’s hard to justify jetting across the pond for a 3 day trip. If you can afford it go for it, to each their own!
Just a reminder early bird tickets for Camp Bisco X have sold out! VIP tickets and Platinum VIP tickets are still available. Check out tickets here and peep the first round of artists here. I think we were so excited about Camp in general, we didn’t go over all the artists (oops).
In other festival related news, Vevo is going to be offering streaming to your mobile device from Bonnaroo for select shows. This offers the question of do I want to be at my laptop or phone if I can’t make it to Bonnaroo, the answer is you can be at both!
As always we go through voicemails, thank you to everyone who left us a voicmail, keep them coming!
Thank you everyone who gives us support, we’ll see you next week on lot hopefully with an official Watkins Glen announcement to discuss!
This week is all about the big summer tour 2011 announcement from Phish! As always there were some shows that were predicted and a lot that weren’t. One shocker was the announcement of the tour opening 3 day run in Bethel, NY on Memorial Day weekend. We have some discussion over whether or not this will be a tough ticket, let’s just say we don’t all agree.
With the announcement of tour comes the anxiety of the lottery and the costs and planning that are involved. Phish is always keeping us phans on our toes and this tour is no exception. This time around lawn tickets are $45 and reserved tickets are $60. If you plan on attending a lot of shows and are putting in for the lottery it can make a big difference if you hit for lawns or reserved. Personally I would recommend that you don’t put in for any lottery tickets and go for reserved during on sales but that’s just me. If the past few tours have taught us anything it’s pretty easy to get a lawn ticket on lot for face or below, so why risk the chance of getting lawns in the lottery? Teach each their own.
We also have Johnny back from BandsThatJam.com and we talk about Watkins Glen again. As far as his sources and predictions he is sticking to his guns and saying the festival is confirmed and is still a go. It’s still very feasible as it makes sense for Phish to launch the 1st leg of summer tour, get tickets sold through lottery and onsale, then announce the festival and presumably 2nd leg.
This episode ran a little long so we only had time to play 2 voicemails. We want to thank everyone who left a message! We will play the rest of the unplayed messages and any new ones next week.
Thank you again to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!
This week we decided to go back in time and pull one from the vault. Above is an old episode that we posted one year ago today on Valentines day. It was actually the first episode that came to mind when I thought about posting an old show. It’s pretty awesome the date coincidence so I guess it was meant to be! We’ll be back next week so don’t forget to keep your lot reports coming in!
We have several guests this week and a fully packed episode!
Our first guest is Johnny from BandsThatJam.com. Johnny is one of the writers for their website and was kind enough to come on the show to discuss a recent blog that caused some controversy. BandsThatJam.com made an announcement on their website that was nearly confirming the festival and offering up very specific details. Unnamed sources close to BTJ claim that a contract has been signed and the festival will be held the weekend of July 4th. They go on to state that tickets will be $200 and include 8 sets of music starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. Johnny goes into more details about their decision to post the confirmation of the festival before Phish.com does. You’ll have to listen to the podcast for full details.
Next we speak with Steve and Jared from Groupme.com. Groupme.com is a free service that allows multiple users to set up a text group to communicate with each other. It’s an amazingly useful service and one that TWoL is excited about. We’ve used this service twice now, once in Atlantic City for the Phish Halloween run and again in NYC for the New Years Eve run. It’s a great way to send a mass text to your crew by texting one number. It’s really easy to use if you can text from your phone you can use this service. The Groupme guys are on their way up, they’ve been involved as a mobile partner for the Austin City Limits festival as well as the Coachella festival. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
Rumors! Rumors! Rumors! There’s a lot of rumors surrounding the jamband community right now. Most of them are related to Phish and Dave Matthews Band. DMB and Phish are both rumored to be playing a music festival in Atlantic City this summer. Check out a link to the festival announcement here. With the Watkins Glen, NY rumor we covered earlier we’re pretty hesitant to say Phish will play but stranger things have happened.
Page and Fishman will be playing a benefit at Higher Ground in Vermont on February 3rd. The benefit is for Pete’s Greens, an organic farm that was recent damaged but a fire. Many other Vermont musicians are also rumored to be playing the benefit.
Florida is also getting in on the festival scene with the 15th annual Suwannee Springfest. This festival is packed full of lots of great bluegrass bands. If you’re in the area make sure to hit this festival and don’t forget to leave us a lot report!
In untz news, The Disco Biscuits have been listed in the lineup for the Ultra Music Festival. This festival includes many different acts, there’s something for everyone. For details on the festival and for tickets check out this link.
We received a heads up on this YouTube video poking fun at “Bro’s” from one of our listeners. We thought it was pretty funny so here’s a link if you want to check it out.
Last but never least we run through voicemails for this week. Thank you to everyone who left us a voicemail! We can’t be everywhere at once so make sure when you’re out on the scene you let us know what’s going on. 419-NO-WOOKS (419-669-6657) is the number program it in your phone.
Thank you again to our guests, Johnny, Steve, and Jared! Thank you also to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!
This week we have a very special guest, Adam from Phish.net. For anyone has been living on the moon Phish.net is basically the one stop for all things Phish related. They’ve been collaborating data, setlists, and all around Phish related things since before the internet was the cool.
For those who didn’t know (myself included) they have been working together with The Mockingbird Foundation for years to gather and host official setlist information. There is no other site that has a more complete and accurate record of setlists. In fact David “ZZYZX” Steinberg uses Phish.net as his source for his stats.
For all of you iPhone, iPad, and iTouch users out there, make sure to check out some apps that are available, 3 of which work with Phish.net. There’s Helping Friendly App available for $2, iTour (which is free), Phanatic available for $2, and iDIDN’T KNOW Phish Games for $2. So no matter if you’re trying to find a hotel near the venue, find out the last time something was played, or just mess around and play games you can have everything you need for $6. Unfortunately these apps aren’t available for Android…yet. If there’s an Android programmer out there, please contact Phish.net staff as they would be interesting and starting a conversation.
A lot of people worked (and still work) to make Phish.net great. Take a look at this link to see the list of contributors.
So after we wrapped up our chat with Adam about the history of Phish.net and all the great apps that are available we had some tour talk to announce. Trey Tour 2011 has been announced with presale already complete. Looks like Trey is taking a quick tour from east to west with tour only lasting a few weeks. Mike Gordon also announced his Spring 2011 tour. Funny enough he starts tour the day Trey ends and only a few hours away…hmmm…can you say bus hand-off? Maybe so and maybe not.
Lastly we wrap up by listening to a few of your voicemails and reading an email we received. Thank you to everyone for your lot updates, make sure to keep them coming! The number is 419-NO-WOOKS, program it in your phone people! We can’t be everywhere at once.
Thank you again for all your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Taped on location at our hotel in Auburn MA, Emilie and I give a quick rundown of our first 24 hours in Woosta. We give a minimal lot report, a mini show review, a ticket check, and even some shots of Whipped Lightning. Since this show was “in studio”, we ran the video camera, but unfortunately, it ends abruptly after the first 10 minutes.
Expect another report on 12/30. In the meantime, stay up to date via our twitter account.
Going live after midnight on the east coast, we thought it was only appropriate to title this episode “TWoL After Dark”. But we wanted to get in one last “normal” show of 2010, so we all grabbed a few drinks, and made it happen. Big ups to everyone in the chat room who stayed up late with us.
No big news this week on the jamband scene, so we hit you with all the standards; lot reports, ticket checks and whimsical banter. Don’t be hesitant on downloading this one however, it’s pure classic TWoL. Emilie saw a ton of music, Nick discusses the tap water situation in Vegas, and I play a lot of inappropriate sound bytes throughout. Some final advice before the Phish holiday run starts is given, and we fill everyone in on our plans for the same. Spoiler alert: WINE BAR!!!
Without a doubt, thanks to everyone who has been listening, whether from episode 1 or episode 54. We appreciate the support. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday, and we will see you guys on lot in Worcester.
Be good,
Steve
PS: Special thanks to friend of the show “fishinole1″ for a h3tty donation which we will put towards some stickers to hand out during this upcoming run.
Thanks to everyone who stuck around for the live stream we apologize for the late start. The TWoL networks’ other podcast typeII started a little late and caused a domino effect.
For anyone reading this after the live broadcast you can stream the recorded version above or subscribe in iTunes. However, make a note if you want to listen to the live show tune into this link at 6:30 pm EST for typeII and 9:30 pm for TWoL.
This week was a little slow so we spent sometime reviewing our Thanksgiving holidays and talking about upcoming shows we plan to attend. Nick is planning on attending the DSO show and Emilie is finally going to see Boombox.
We also introduce a new segment where we try and figure out what people were actually trying to find when they stumbled on our site. This weeks episode title was actually inspired by one of these searches!
Last but not least we run through your voicemails. Thank you to everyone who left us a voicemail, we can’t be everywhere all the time! Remember if you’re going to be on lot hit us up at 419-NO-WOOKS and give us a report.
Thank you again to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Phish Fall Tour 2010 is in full swing and so are the setlists and lot scenes! Utica seems to be the hit show so far but as I’m typing this the Manchester setlist is rolling in and it sounds like we might have a new leader.
Everyone is getting pumped up for the Halloween weekend and the TWoL crew is no exception. All 3 of us will be at the AC run and we plan on throwing down with the best of ‘em! Of course… come to our meet-up.
Steve managed to hit up a few shows this tour, some tickets were tougher than you would think. Our advice for Phish 3.0 Fall Tour = if it’s a weekend show make sure you get a ticket ahead of time. Oh and whatever you do take care of your shoes.
In non Phish news, unfortunately moe. had to cancel their October 30th show due to some personal family issues. We wish them all the best and hope everything turns out ok. They have rescheduled the show for December 4th. For more details on the announcement check this link out.
We received a TON of voicemails this week and we played every single one on this episode. Thank you for everyone who left one, keep them coming! Don’t forget we will randomly select a few people who leave voicemails to win a copy of Touropoly! Thank you again to Touropoly for being this months sponsor!
We appreciate all of our fans, thank you for your support! We’ll see you this weekend in AC!
We have a Special Report for you guys. Our buddy Eric Wyman, of type II cast, hit the lot after the Maine show on 10/19/2010 and scored some interviews for us. This is 10 minutes you don’t want to miss. And please, don’t try this at home. Eric is a trained professional who had a solid supply of unicorn blood on him at all times.
