TWoL 123: PHISH TOUR 2013

Listen to Episode 123

The long wait for Phish dates ended yesterday with the announcement of a 25 date summer tour spanning from the July 3 through September 1. Scotty B posted his always thorough review of all the dates and venues over at Hidden Track. We jumped on the mics last night to give you some quick thoughts on the tour. You can tell that this episode was unplanned because Toonces doesn’t even get in on the action until half way through. Thanks to the chat room for playing along at home, as always. Let us know your thoughts on this tour/what the rest of the year holds for Phish and what shows we will find you at here on the blog or on our Facebook or Twitter. Don’t forget to submit your PTBM requests and stay tuned for a full TWoL episode in the next week or so.

Happy planning!

Episode 118: We Opted to Make Baked Goods Instead

Listen to Episode 118

HAPPY NEW YEAR TWoLers! It’s 2013 and we are off to a good start. Well, a start at least. On tonight’s episode, we (SteveTooncesKatie) give our account of the shenanigans at MSG for the Phish holiday run. The building, tickets, antics, and much more are on the agenda. I’d tell you more but this is a podcast after all. Next, we hit your “lot reports” which include some Bob Weir action, inquiries into our “website,” and a FUTUREBIRDS report. Finally, we look ahead to some upcoming shows: Umphrey’s McGee, Ryan Montbleau Band, EOTO, and Dark Star Orchestra.

We hope everyone out there had a great holiday season and wonderful new years.

Thanks for listening,
- Steve

TWoL 117: Breaking News

Listen to Episode 117

This episode will be the gang’s last regular episode of 2012. Steve, Toonces and I recorded on a Tuesday night just like we used to. We discussed YEMSG, of course. We talked after parties, tweet-ups, the state of public trasportation post-Sandy, and the MSG renovations/death of MSG as we knew and loved it.

Toonces also ran through the Heavy Pets tour dates for the rest of the year. And if you are too busy Christmas shopping to hit up any more shows make sure you check out PhanArt’s Holiday Gift Guide. Finally we did a quick run through of what shows we have all seen recently.

Steve and I will be coming to you next with Special Reports from Mayan Holidaze. And check us out during YEMSG for Special Reports featuring us, Toonces, and special guests. We’ve been light on lot reports lately. Don’t forget to call and leave us a message at 419.NO.WOOKS.

Until next time, stay warm everyone!

TWoL 116: Bath Salts

Listen to Episode 116

Well, it’s been about a month since the last TWoL. Honestly though, it wasn’t our fault. There were quite the scheduling conflicts, Superstorm Sandy, and then live music. With so much to cover it was tough to decide where to start. Long story short, this episode contains reviews a plenty covering all the music we saw. This includes Trey, Phil, Everyone Orchestra, and Umphrey’s McGee. As a bonus, we also have PhanArt’s coverage of the Bear Creek Festival. Finally, we look ahead to Conspirator in NYC and Ryan Montbleau in Philly.

Hopefully you didn’t forget about us. We have lots in store for the fall and New Years. Stay tuned!!

TWoL 113: Sexy, Dicks, and Bieber? (Podcast)

Listen to Episode 113

To start, we are joined by special TWoL correspondent Danielle (aka @DanMar85) who held down the end of Phish summer tour on the twitterz for us. She gives some great tips about travel to the dirty south including info on the venues, where to stay, what beer to drink and more.  Toonces was down south as well, and he’s got his own stories to share.

Next, Danielle goes deep on Dick’s with tons of protips for seeing Phish in the mile high city. Where to stay, how to get to the venue, and even what to wear is discussed. If you are thinking about going the next time Phish rolls through CO you don’t want to miss out. With the throw down being objectively epic this year and the rumors there are two more years left in the contract, there are no excuses not to go next year.

Finally, we had some great voicemails (419-NO-WOOKS) and then pondered the Bieber effect on Phish tour. Ever since his appearance at the leg 2 tour opener in Long Beach the internets have been a buzz. Beiber’s guitarist Dan Kanter is quite the head and has been tweeting about his run at Dick’s. The result: my tweetdeck is blowing up with 1,000s of RT’s from this instagram.

As usual, thanks for listening, tell a friend, and we will see you guys at Catskill Chill this weekend.

TWoL 112: Better Bring a Buddy to Snuggle With.

Listen to Episode 112

This week on lot, Nick returned for a second consecutive show. And he even saw some Phish!  He recapped his experiences at Long Beach and nights one and two of Bill Graham just for you guys. We also tackled the webcast drama and the drama about phish editorials before we ran a quick ticket check for the rest of tour. Stay tuned to our twitter page for coverage of Alabama, Atlanta, Charlotte and Denver from Toonces and friends of the show @DanMar85 and @_Carini_.

The last few weeks also saw a number of Phish side projects announcements for the fall. Trey announced a short tour in support of his new album, which will be released on October 16th. Page will be playing two Halloween shows with the Meter Men right here in NYC. And Fishman will be playing three shows, also in the Big Apple, with Everyone Orchestra. Your move Cactus…

Steve and I were also excited about the just released Catskill Chill schedule, since we will both be hitting up that festival in Hancock, NY from September 7-9.  And we rounded out the show by looking at the recently announced Panic en la Playa which goes on sale tomorrow.

On a personal note, I would like to say Congrats to our two remaining OG TWoL hosts and founders, Steve and Nick (and all past and present TWoLers) as we celebrate our three year anniversary this week. Thanks to all of you who have listened, called in and raged with us at shows. Please call or email us your favorite TWoL memories, or suggestions for the future, or whatever you damn well feel like at 419.NO.WOOKS or info@thisweekonlot.com. And please stick around with us for the next three years!

Until next time, be well.

Episode 110: Pulsing Dongs (& Dumpster Babies) (Podcast)

Listen to Episode 110

This week’s show was a bit of a departure for TWoL.  We recorded on a Sunday night and without a script of any kind.  Listen in as Steve, Toonces and I wing it and talk about what we’ve been up to during the month of July.  We cover the end of Phish’s leg 1, particularly Jones Beach and SPAC.  (Check out our Phish tour pictures here).  Then Toonces fills us in on Furthur at Merriweather and various RVA shows.  Watch our Twitter starting this Wednesday and through the weekend to see his coverage of Vibes.  In this episode you will also hear a ticket check/lot report mash up.  Thanks as always to those who called in and don’t forget our number when you are out at shows:  419.NO.WOOKS.  And a special shout out to those who live streamed this week and participated in the show.  We couldn’t do this without our fantastic listeners.  Until next time, stay cool everyone!

Episode 109: You Suck at Tucking! (Podcast)

twol109

Hey everyone, TWoL is back and we have a lot of ground to cover for this episode. We last checked in at the First Tube Poster Show, which was a lot of fun. Since then, we hit up nTelos and had a correspondent for the Ohio >PA >Ohio run. Big ups to our buddy Carini for covering that weekend for us. TWoL proper will be back for Jones Beach, but in the meantime we will have you covered for Deer Creek and Alpine Valley. Our buddys Ali and Erica will be taking the controls, so be sure to keep us locked on your twitter. We have some good voicemails this week. Be sure to hit us up at 419-NO-WOOKS to keep us up to date on your travels. Finally, we run through some of TWoLs destinations in the near future. Give this episode a listen and get the full scoop.

Take care everyone. And remember: Lushington signs at Jones Beach 7/4 will be appreciated.

Special Report: Live at the Poster Show

Listen to Special Report: Live at the Poster Show

This past weekend, during Phish’s stellar three day Atlantic City run, the Mothership Art Collective presented the First Tube Poster Show and TWoL was on hand, reporting live.  The show was held on Saturday at the Trump Plaza Casino and featured more than a dozen artists from across the country, selling posters, pins, tee-shirts and all manner of other Phish and music related art.  The event was a great success pulling in an estimated 1,000 fans.  The artists and fans alike were in great spirits and the buzz in the room was positively electric.  Steve ran the show for TWoL, while Toonces and I worked the crowd.  Listen in to the edited version of the live stream to hear interviews with artists and fans.  This is a great listen for those who missed the event and for those who want to relive it.  Thanks to Pete “Phanart” Mason for inviting TWoL and to the Mothership Art Collective for putting on such a great event.  I am already looking forward to a bigger and better event on the next tour!

Beyond the poster show, we give the basic rundown about Bader Field and Atlantic City in general. Since this was recorded Saturday afternoon, there is not much to say about the shows. For a full recap on all the music, be sure to tune into the next type 2 cast.

Until next time, enjoy tour, travel safely and rage proper!

TWoL 108: Steve and Pete

Listen to Episode 108

I’m gonna keep this post short.

It’s myself and PhanArt. He’s been on many a TWoL before. We talk about his recent trip to Hangout Fest and my trip to the Googa Mooga. We run through your voice mails. There’s some deep analysis re: Phish tour > tickets, the poster show, and tweetups. Lastly, no Steve/Pete TWoL would be complete without all the necessary Bisco updates. What does this mean for you?  Laughter. Tears. Awkward moments.

Thanks for listening, see you on tour.

TWoL 1 Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh 7 (Podcast)

Listen to Episode 107

This week, Steve and I were joined by a special guest from the Midwest, Josh Korin.  After some brief housekeeping news (hint:  keep your eyes peeled for more blog posts and written content from TWoL in the upcoming months), we dove right into the breaking news of the day.  The initial artist announcement for Jamcruise 11 was announced today and features moe., MMS&W, and funk galore.

Next, Josh filled us in on UMbowl III, which happened last Friday night in Chicago.  He was in attendance and gave a glowing review of the event.  Check out his official review here.  There’s also some great audio and video floating around for those who missed the show.

Next we did a quick ticket check for Phish tour legs 1 & 2.  If you need tickets for nTelos, Jones Beach, or Bill Graham, hit up cashortrade.org, otherwise regular old Ticketmaster will do you.  We also got a nice voicemail from the Wanee Festival, with a rave review of Buddy Guy.  Now that festie season is starting add our number to your phone:  419.NO.WOOKS.  We wanna hear from you!

We also gave you a rundown of upcoming festivals that we haven’t covered yet:

And finally we left you with a quick rundown of our recent EOTO and Punch Brothers live experiences.  As always, thanks for tuning in everyone!

Rage on!

TWoL 102: Major Hard-on for This Week on Lot

Listen to Episode 102

Happy Phish tour announcement week kids!!  It’s the most wonderful time of the year besides, well, tour itself.

But first, a big congrats to TWoLer Stuart White, winner of our Aura Music Festival ticket giveaway.  Stuart won a pair of tickets to this festie, being held down in FL March 9-11.  Remember to follow TWoL on Facebook and Twitter and keep your eyes peeled for upcoming ticket giveaways and you could be our next big winner.

As I’m sure all of you heard, Phish summer tour leg 1 was announced in typical Phishy fashion yesterday, on Leap Day, with a hilarious and only slightly disturbing video detailing Fishman’s pre-tour training regimen.   The tour includes stops at many of Phish’s favorite stomping grounds like Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, SPAC and Jones Beach.  There is also some kind of mini-festival stop in Atlantic City (don’t forget your Maltese Falcon).  You can request tickets through PTBM until Monday, March 12th.  Listen along as we discuss each stop, the flow of the tour in general and TWoL’s plans for the summer.

Also in this episode we discuss Ticketmaster’s new iOS app, released just in time for Phish on-sales.  In more ticket news, Bonnaroo and Phil Lesh had some major ticket debacles in the last few weeks.  And in festival news we talked about the All Good and Mountain Jam lineups.

And of course, we heard your voicemails.  Including perhaps the most epically crude voicemail that TWoL has ever received.  Don’t miss this one!  And don’t forget to call in and profess your love to us (or to just leave a plain old fashioned lot report) at 419.NO.WOOKS.

Finally, tune into the Gametapes Forum tonight.  Join in to listen to and discuss 7.10.00 set II.

Good luck on your ticket requests and let the countdown to summer tour officially begin:  98 days ’til Worcester!

Katie

TWoL 95: Chicken Waaaaangs!

Listen to Episode 95

We have Steve, Nick, and Emilie this week. Emilie is back on the carnivore side and has kicked the veggie lifestyle to the curb, hence our episode title for the week. Chicken waaangs are an amazing thing in everyday life but after you haven’t had them for a year? You better believe they are amazing.

But I digress, on to this weeks news. Let’s start with Trey news as there was a few things this week. Trey has announced an Orchestra Tour with three dates in Feb and one in March spread across the country. He’s also  recording a new solo album with the members of TAB and has noted he will be “taking a whole new direction” for this album, whatever that means. The TWoL crew is divided on whether or not this will be a good album. Personally I think it will work out in the end but only time will tell.

Moving along to Phish news, Watkins Glen track official Ryan Lake has announced that the venue will focus on racing events for 2012 so no return for a festival this year. While not shocking that Phish is not playing there again so soon, it doesn’t mean they won’t return in the future. The majority of TWoL attend Superball so we’re really hoping for a return sometime in the future. In our last bit of Phish news we would like to point out the many after-shows for each night of the MSG run. If you managed not to wook-out at the main event we hope to see you late night!

Even though it’s nearly winter there is still some festival news this week. All Good has announced they will move from their WV location to Legend Valley in Ohio. Legend Valley (formerly Buckeye Lake) has hosted many amazing bands, festivals, and concerts over the years. In a period where most festivals only last a short time TWoL gives kudos to All Good for 16 years of jamband love.

As of right now Jam Cruise 10 takes off in 39 days and if you don’t have your tickets well you’re pretty screwed cause it’s sold out. But…not to fret! Jam Cruise 11 prebooking starts Dec 1st so you can always go next time!

We received a few voicemails this week, thanks to all who took the time to leave one. Don’t forget the number is 419-NO-WOOKS program it in your phone!

Thank you to everyone that supports us and we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 92: We Kinda Regret to Inform You . . .

Listen to Episode 92

This week, Steve, Emilie and Katie tackled the big news of the day:  YEMSG lottery emails have arrived!!  Of course we were all big losers.  But someone out there must have gotten tickets right?  Congrats to the winners and please share the wealth!  And don’t forget about public on sale Saturday October 29th at noon.

If you were a winner or a loser in the lottery you should still check out the great after shows happening NYE weekend.  Bisco announced that they are playing December 28th late night so that they wouldn’t conflict with Phish.  Check out the details for that and the rest of their NYE run here.  Also for all you late night folks, Wyllys will be bringing his NY Hustler Ensemble (featuring the lovely and talented Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman) to Sullivan Hall for an after show on the 31st.  We also discussed a rumor about a possible Marco Benevento after show on December 29th.  Keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement kids!

Next, Steve filled us in on TAB’s October 12th show at the Wellmont.  He found it to be a great show for a $20 ticket with straightforward Trey rock.  And in the Ticket Check we learned that you can still see them at the Tabernacle on November 11th for cheap!  Also in Ticket Check, scalpers and crazy people are already posting YEMSG tickets for sale despite the fact that lottery announcements just started rolling in.  At least wait for public onsale people…  And finally, Jamcruise is sold out, sorry folks!  But give a shout out to Steve and Noob Laura on the boat!

Looking ahead we checked out Mr. Miner’s long awaited book release.  Railroad Earth is also doing a sweet Thanksgiving weekend in Stroudsburg, PA full of bluegrass, art, poetry and food.

Emilie has been a busy girl up in Boston and gave us recaps on Little Dragon at the Royale and The Low Anthem at the Somerville Theater.  She’s looking forward to Blizten Trapper, Dawes, and Dark Star Orchestra.  Steve and Katie will be hitting up the Lawn Boys this weekend in NYC for some epic Halloween show action.

That’s all she wrote this week.  Go catch some shows and leave us lot reports:  419-NO-WOOKS.  ‘Til next time, peace!

Episode 77: Setbreak

Listen to Episode 77

This week, we find another way to bring you guys something new: a show taped during the Phish Couch Tour Setbreak. Toonces, Noob Laura, and I rundown our thoughts on Camden, MPP, Couch Tour, News of the Week, and Voice Mails. It’s a quickie (that’s what she said) but we think you will enjoy. No links and extensive show notes this week. Find 20 minutes, sit back, and enjoy.

Thanks for listening,

Steve.

TWoL 76: Why aren’t you watching the Stream?

Listen to Episode 76

(Note: please excuse the low end hum that is present on the audio. I apologize in advance, and will work on fixing for next week. Thanks - Steve)

What’s shaking, kids?  TWoL comes at you this week as summer tour is in full swing, and we waste no time getting down to the nitty gritty.  While we were bringing you the goods last night, Noob Laura was on the scene in Great Woods with her Noob Mom.  And speaking of moms, Steve fills us in on the PNC shows, where UnoMom got her phirst taste of the band on night 2.  She was impressed by the Chuck Norris look-alike on guitar and was quite the trooper.  You go UnoMom!

We got a sultry dose of Emilie this week as she gave us her thoughts on the Bethel run.  Magical sums it up nicely.  She waxed poetic on the benefits of being a Bethel Woods member, the lush lawn, friendly staff, and tidy bathrooms.  Basically, don’t sleep on tour openers, especially if their in Bethel!

Moving forward, we’ve got Camden and MPP up this weekend, where all of TWoL East will be in attendance.  There won’t be a mobile studio, but you can rest assured that we’ll be keeping you updated through the social media tronz and have a full recap for you next week.  A quick ticket check shows prices holding steady, and fairly low for some of the southern shows.  That might change soon, however.  Pro tip: always check the box office if you strike out in lot.  Also, we’ve discovered that if you already have tickets and there’s a re-release, you have a good chance at getting an upgrade via the box office or via phone.

There was a slew of voicemails this week.  Thanks for all the calls!  We’ll hear from a Rodney Dangerfield sound-alike, Mountain Jam, and the weekends shows.  Keep those lot reports coming!

Lastly, we got so caught up talking about the Phish that we just about ran out of time for other news:

Long short, Camp Bisco VIP tickets are selling fast so don’t sleep on them.  Steve and Nobb Laura will there on the scene providing complete coverage. Be sure to say hi.

Hidden Track is giving away two general admission tickets to Governor’s Ball in their Everybody Wins When We Plug Something And In Return They Offer Us Free Shit To Give Away” program.  You can enter twice by leaving one comment on their webpage and another comment on their Facebook.  The contest ends on Monday, June 13th at 11:59am.

Finally, we got an email from our friend M@ about a new program he was hoping to test at Great Woods, called Crowd Lights.  Basically you can download the app for Droid or Iphone, and you become the light show.  Theoretically, if everyone opens the app and faces their phones to the band, they get a light show from us.  Sounds pretty cool.  If you were in Mansfield, let us know if you saw the test and what you thought.  Neat.

See you on lot!

Special Report: Bethel Woods, 2011

Listen to Special Report: Bethel Woods

Stephen T, Noob Laura and myself hit up all 3 nights of Phish at Bethel Woods. We had hoped to set up on lot, but unfortunately couldn’t pull it off this time. So we did the next best thing, and sat down at the hotel on Sunday to discuss our thoughts up through the first 2 nights. We are happy to report that the whole experience was an overall success. Not much drama was seen, locals were welcoming, and the weather was on our side. Without a doubt, we hope to see Phish return here, and that it stays a 3 night run stop.

Don’t forget to send us in your stories, whether it be about the lot, your campsite, or the locals selling BBQ on the side of the road. Hit us up on the usual number, 419-NO-WOOKS. (419-669-6657)

Thanks for listening, we will see you at Holmdel.

TWoL 75: There’s no leeway for Adam getting naked.

Listen to Episode 75

This week, TWoL hits you with an episode full of phish news and your voicemails. Steve and Steve are joined by Adam, and we talk about some new additions to the .net. We’re excited to see new merch and “collections”, which are likely to keep even the nerdiest of phish phans happy.

In other news….. the chat room was joking around how I always say “we will link to this in the blog.” So this week, I’m not linking to anything in the blog. Take that chat room.

Drink!!!

TWoL 74: Would you name your first born Glisten?

Listen to Epsiode 74

Lot’s of topics were covered this week including the surprising news that Yasgur’s Farm is no longer an option for folks camping on Memorial Day Weekend. Yasgur’s farm was set to hold late night concerts and camping after the near by Bethel Phish shows. Those plans have been dashed as the owners of Yasgur’s Farm now face a $25k fine for violating a 2006 agreement to not mass gatherings on their property. You can read more about this news here.

We run through a quick Phish ticket check. Looks like nearly all tickets can be found for below face. Not a shocker considering the amount of shows being played and the size of the venues.

After we beat the Phish news to death we talk about bugs. Small, slimy, ugly, creepy, crawly bugs. The 13 year cicadas are going to be out in full force a few weeks before the Bonnaroo music festival. Fear not though if you are attending. Cicadas are harmless and they should be mostly gone…well except for a few straggler cicadas that decided to wook out and totally spaced when they were supposed to arrive.

In one more bit of Bonnaroo news regular tickets have sold out! If you’re planning on attending this year you better get a VIP ticket or you’re going to be stuck out front with a finger in the air.

The Austin City Limits lineup has leaked and this year looks pretty good! Presale tickets sold out weeks in advance before this leak, however you can still get single day tickets for $90. Single day tickets are expected to run out faster than a one for $3 two for $5 sale on Sammy Smith bombers so get yours while you can.

As always we run through the voicemails we received, thank you to everyone who left us a report. We can’t be everywhere at once so make sure while you’re out on the lot you give us an update! 419-NO-WOOKS is the number to call!

Thank you to everyone that supports us, we’ll see you next week on lot!

Thanks to Rick R. for the pics of River Rock Music Fest.

TWoL 72: There’s vomit where my tent should be!

Listen to Episode 72

No guest this week but we run through some announcements, voicemails, and a story about a boy and his tent and where it should have been.

Jam Cruise 10 lineup was released, the lineup looks pretty solid. Only thing to complain about this year is there are only 2 stops scheduled. Both in cities we haven’t really heard of or understand. If you’ve got some experience with these cities leave us a comment on the blog or a voicemail as we would love feedback.

We’ve been covering a lot of the “untz” lately and this episode is no different. There were some more additions added to Camp Bisco 10. Pack your flatbrim and get ready to dance your ass off till the sunrise!

There’s a new festival  with a new concept called Identity. All the details haven’t been released yet but the basic concept is a group of electronic style bands are going to get together and play venues that they normally wouldn’t be able to fill on their. So far tDB, Pretty Lights, and DJ Shadow have been announced as participants. More bands are expected as well as more details, stay tuned.

The Finger Lakes Grass Roots Festival has been announced. This festival has been going on for over 20 years, TWoL recommends checking it out if you can. Don’t forget to leave us a lot report if you do!

Finally we get around to the story about a boy, his tent, and a pile of wook vomit. Unfortunately it happened to TWoLs’ very own Steve this last weekend at the Jibberjazz festival. The festival was great, but the wookery was not. Better luck next time Steve!

As always we go through all the voicemails we receive, thank you to all that left us one! The number to the voicemail box is 419-NO-WOOKS make sure to hit us up if you see any live music or if you’re just bored and wanna vent.

Last but not least we have a poll running right now, make sure to leave your vote on how you did with Phish leg 2 onsale. You can either click this link to get to the poll or scroll down in your browser.

Thank you everyone for your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 68: “Super Ball Icks”

Listen to Episode 68

This week TWoL calls an audible play at the last minute and recruited Amy Fisher to guest host. She joins the two Steve’s as Nick was away on work, Emilie was MIA, and Noob Laura flat out said no. But it’s all good, as Amy will be going to Superball IX, so she was ready to wax poetic about our main topic. And while the details are still pretty sparse, we discuss what is known about Phish’s 3 day festival in Watkins Glen NY. Of course, there is much debate about the 2 ticket options and the “uber tent”, but at least we all like the payment plan that is available.

As has been the trend lately, there is more festival news to discuss. Rock and Roll Resort saw a lot report from a listener. Nateva has been cancelled. And Phil is setting up a “home base” in California.

We had another great week of voicemails from you guys, keep them coming. We’ll see everyone on lot next week.

TWoL 67: The Notorious PBR

Listen to Episode 67

Is the highly anticipated 9th Phish festival about to be announced? Hell we don’t know, there’ s been so much speculation at this point anything is possible. Speaking of anything being possible, the name of the Watkins Glen festival is rumored to be SuperBall 9. Online Phish Tour broke the news after some serious internet sleuthing about who owns the web domain. Read all the details here.

The schedule for the Rock and Roll Resort Festival has been released! Each night has a party theme and suggestion of what to wear. Make sure if you haven’t yet to get your tickets for this exclusive party!

We run through most of the voicemails we received but had to leave out a few. Thank you to everyone who left us a lot report! If we missed yours we’ll get to it next week! Don’t forget to program us in your phone 419-NO-WOOKS is the number!

Ever brought a parent to a jamband show? And said parent wasn’t exactly a fan? Or even remotely into the scene? Leave us a  comment on the blog and tell us about it. Steve will be taking his mom to PNC for Phish and wants to know about your experiences.

Thanks again for the support everyone, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 65: Lousy Smarch Weather

Listen to Episode 65

This week TWoL is coming at you with a jam packed, 40 minute episode full of news, reviews and opinions skewed.

We start off with a review of Furthur at the Best Buy Theater from 3/13/11. I was in attendance for this show, and left pleasantly surprised. Moving to this more intimate venue from the monsterous MSG was definitely a good call. With emotions running high after the passing of Stanley “Bear” Owsley earlier in the day, the band definitely brought their “A” game. And adding Warren Haynes to almost all of the second set was welcomed by fans in the house that night.

Next we hit the standard Phish “Ticket Check”and discuss our views on the recent on-sale activities. With only 2 shows sold out, it looks like everyone who wants to get in this summer should be able to, and this is a good thing. Quite the 180 from last summer, but we feel a variety of factors contributed to this, which of course we discuss in detail.

Then we hit your Lot Reports, and there are some good ones this week. We always appreciate you guys calling, so keep hitting us up. 419-NO-WOOKS / 419-669-6657.

We did another venue review this week, tackling PNC Bank Arts Center, the 2 Steve’s home turf. Next week we will keep it moving with DTE Energy Music Theater.

Lastly, we run through some news of the week. GOTV added some artists we like to the lineup. At least 1 of us will be there, and hopefully we can provide a live show for you guys.  All Good has also released another round of artists. Finally, Mayan Holidaze goes on sale this week, and this guy just might finally pull the trigger.

Thanks for tuning in, we will catch you guys next Tuesday.

-Steve

TWoL 64: Fat Tuesday!

Listen to Episode 64

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone, hope you all are listening to some New Orleans style jazz today!

We’re switching up the format on TWoL and going in more of a rotation format for hosts similar to what we’re doing for type ii cast. This weeks episode brings a long time lot reporter and former guest Stephen aka Toonces to TWoL. Steve and Nick will remain constants while Toonces, Emilie, and Noob Laura will be guest hosts from time to time.

Not too much going in the jamband community news this week unless you’re living in or near Florida. FL had two festival announcements, first the Wanee Festival has been revealed. The Wanee festival looks like a lot of rock n’ roll with some funk and a dash of untz sprinkled in. It’s being held April 14-16th so if you’re in Florida we suggest you go and celebrate tax day weekend by blowing some money on some music!

Florida also is hosting the Langerado Festival again this year. Some of you may remember this festival from years past. It’s had an up and down history with the most recent version of the festival in 2009 being canceled due to poor ticket sales. It’s back again this year and we wish them the best of luck. The interesting thing about this festival is that early-bird tickets go on sale tomorrow (March 9th) for $75 but no bands have been announced yet. The festival isn’t until Oct. 8-9 and regular price tickets go on sale June 1st with the price doubling to $150. TWoL recommends if you even think you are going to this festival, buy the early-bird tickets, it’s a great deal.

Summing up this weeks jamband news is The Disco Biscuits “Camp Bisco Badge Program” announcement.  Basically this fan fueled contest is designed as a modern-day street team using social media as the street corner and bar room poster board. Any fans that link their twitter and Facebook accounts to Camp Bisco will receive special notices about contests that can earn you points that can be used for prizes, even the possibility of VIP tickets. Well played Bisco, this is a very “hip” promotion and is using modern-day tools in a fun and interactive way.

As always we run through listener voicemails. Thank you to everyone who left us a lot report, remember we can’t be everywhere at once so please keep them coming!

In other news the Phish lottery has ended and the word on the street is that if you put in a for a lottery request you got tickets. TWoL is getting reports that nearly everyone had their lottery request filled and with mostly pavilion tickets. If you put in for the lottery please let us know how you did by leaving us a comment on the blog or leaving us a voicemail, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.

In more Phish news all hotels within a 40 minute radius of the tour opening Bethel shows are sold out completely. But not to fear TWoL has got your back! We were able to find several  camping locations that as of today still have spots available. We highly recommend you contact them yourselves to confirm and reserve availability. The last thing you want to be doing is wooking it up and asking to crash on someones h3tty floorspace. The campgrounds are listed below:

Kittatinny Northeast Campsites

Lander’s River Trips (this site actually list multiple campgrounds)

Upper Delaware Campgrounds (this site actually list multiple campgrounds)

Next week we will be reviewing PNC, the lot, hotels, what to do and not to do, so stay tuned for that!

Before we leave you we also wanted to pose a question to our listeners. As it’s currently Lent right now, have you ever given up anything Jamband related for Lent? If so please leave us a comment on the blog or a voicemail and let us know.

Thank you again to all our listeners we appreciate your support! We’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 63: Dust off your tent

Listen to Episode 63

Dust off your tent because it’s festival time! Lots of festival announcements and news this week, let’s get right to it!

The initial lineup for High Sierra Music Festival was announced! Looks like MMJ and Ween are headliners.

The heavily rumored Dave Matthews Band festival appearances are starting to get some more press. They are rumored to be in Atlantic City at Bader Field on June 24-26th according to jambands.com.

The Electric Forest Festival headlined by String Cheese Incident is taking place in Rothbury, MI. The lineup seems to be a bit all over the place but diversity is a good thing so take it or leave it.

The Rock n Roll Resort festival is kicking off the festival season. This unique festival combines the cost of your hotel (all shows are held on the hotel grounds) with your admission to the festival. Next to a state park this festival offers amazing scenic views and outdoor opportunities while being able to sleep in comfort and style. This festival is also a good way to start into the spring/summer musical spirit as it’s being held April 1-3 in Kerhonkson, NY.

Bisco Inferno is back again this year at Red Rocks. Come get your untz on in one of the nations most scenic parks!

If Bisco Inferno wasn’t enough untz and electronica for you then make sure you check out The Governors Ball Music Festival.

Now that we have all the festival announcements out of the way, save the official Phish announcement of Wakins Glen, let’s get to some other news.

Phish.net has starting tracking and posting Sideshows from the different members of Phish. Basically this will keep track of setlists from the personal projects of the members of Phish. The initiative is still a work in progress but we look forward to it. Thanks to everyone at Phish.net for all the work you put in, it’s truly appreciated! Also, they have a sweet Cactus contest running right now.

Target has starting selling a womens Phish shirt. Surprisingly enough it appears PT has not yet got wind of this as there are no douchebag comments left on the reviews. Either that or Target regulates their comments and reviews very strictly. In any event happy shopping ladies!

Last but not least we run through all the voicemails we had leftover from last week. Thank you to everyone that left a report!

We’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 62: Not cool brah…

Listen to Episode 62

This week is all about the big summer tour 2011 announcement from Phish! As always there were some shows that were predicted and a lot that weren’t. One shocker was the announcement of the tour opening 3 day run in Bethel, NY on Memorial Day weekend. We have some discussion over whether or not this will be a tough ticket, let’s just say we don’t all agree.

With the announcement of tour comes the anxiety of the lottery and the costs and planning that are involved. Phish is always keeping us phans on our toes and this tour is no exception. This time around lawn tickets are $45 and reserved tickets are $60. If you plan on attending a lot of shows and are putting in for the lottery it can make a big difference if you hit for lawns or reserved. Personally I would recommend that you don’t put in for any lottery tickets and go for reserved during on sales but that’s just me. If the past few tours have taught us anything it’s pretty easy to get a lawn ticket on lot for face or below, so why risk the chance of getting lawns in the lottery? Teach each their own.

We also have Johnny back from BandsThatJam.com and we talk about Watkins Glen again. As far as his sources and predictions he is sticking to his guns and saying the festival is confirmed and is still a go. It’s still very feasible as it makes sense for Phish to launch the 1st leg of summer tour, get tickets sold through lottery and onsale, then announce the festival and presumably 2nd leg.

This episode ran a little long so we only had time to play 2 voicemails. We want to thank everyone who left a message! We will play the rest of the unplayed messages and any new ones next week.

Thank you again to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 58: Check it out, we’re checking in!

Listen to Episode 58

There’s a lot of news going on this week so let’s get right to it!

First and foremost we’re very excited to announce the launch of our brand page on Foursquare! Now when you check into your favorite venues in NYC,  Las Vegas, San Francisco, and beyond, you can see tips from TWoL. As we continue to travel and visit new lots, venues, hotels, and restaurants we will add more tips at different locations. If you have a tip on a particular venue you would like us to add leave us a voicemail or email us and we’ll get it done!

As we were perusing the internet this week we discovered the h3ttiest drink coming to a lot near you. Although it’s super h3tty I wouldn’t expect to find it on lot priced at 2 for $5. Check out this link to see what drink we’re talking about and why the cost is going to price out the wooks.

Switching gears to music news we found out that after 12+ years Umphrey’s McGee producer Kevin Browning is taking on a new role at the UM headquarters. Taking his place will be Chris Mitchell a former Navy nuclear engineer with 15 yrs experience in the sound business. Good luck Kevin and welcome Chris!

It’s rumorville right now and as always the Phish rumors don’t disappoint. One rumor is that Phish is going to perform at some unnamed summer festivals. Part of the rumor also says that DMB would be playing at these same festivals. Our friends at Coventry Music Blog put up a sad yet funny old video of Trey playing with Dave from DMB. You can view this “nostalgic” footage over at Coventry Music Blog.

Some sad news about STS9 as they had to cancel their winter tour. Murph has been diagnosed with cancer and will be taking some time off for treatment and recovery. We wish him all the best, get well soon!

After the 3 previous stories we thought we would lighten the mood up a bit by talking about a hilarious story posted on christwire.com. Apparently “The Phish” is running America in more ways than one! The best part of this obviously fake site is that so many people believe it’s real. It just goes to show don’t piss off hippies or they will make idle threats on your blog post comments.

In Grateful Dead news some fans are upset at the $450 cost of a new Europe 72 box set that contains 60 CDs. They aren’t upset at the cost of $450 but that the original 7,200 box sets with special casing, artwork, and other surprises sold out and the new orders will still cost $450 but sans any frills. If you weren’t luck enough to get one of the 7,200 originals it sounds like you’re shit out of luck.

Trey Anastasio will back on tour and from the reports we’ve been getting the tour was an instant sellout. Tickets are already available on the secondary market. Our advice is to hold out, most likely you can get a ticket for face on lot.

Mike Gordon is also going to be on tour, his ticket sales seem to have gone the opposite of Trey’s. Currently as I’m typing this blog post it appears the only shows that are sold out are the Brooklyn Bowl shows. There’s still plenty of time but we imagine this won’t be a hard ticket either.

Last but never least we also run through your voicemails. Thank you to everyone who left one and thank you to all of our supporters, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 57: Mustard is Better!

Listen to Episode 57

This week we have a very special guest, Adam from Phish.net. For anyone has been living on the moon Phish.net is basically the one stop for all things Phish related. They’ve been collaborating data, setlists, and all around Phish related things since before the internet was the cool.

For those who didn’t know (myself included) they have been working together with The Mockingbird Foundation for years to gather and host official setlist information. There is no other site that has a more complete and accurate record of setlists. In fact David “ZZYZX” Steinberg uses Phish.net as his source for his stats.

For all of you iPhone, iPad, and iTouch users out there, make sure to check out some apps that are available, 3 of which work with Phish.net. There’s Helping Friendly App available for $2, iTour (which is free), Phanatic available for $2, and iDIDN’T KNOW Phish Games for $2. So no matter if you’re trying to find a hotel near the venue, find out the last time something was played, or just mess around and play games you can have everything you need for $6. Unfortunately these apps aren’t available for Android…yet. If there’s an Android programmer out there, please contact Phish.net staff as they would be interesting and starting a conversation.

A lot of people worked (and still work) to make Phish.net great. Take a look at this link to see the list of contributors.

So after we wrapped up our chat with Adam about the history of Phish.net and all the great apps that are available we had some tour talk to announce. Trey Tour 2011 has been announced with presale already complete. Looks like Trey is taking a quick tour from east to west with tour only lasting a few weeks. Mike Gordon also announced his Spring 2011 tour. Funny enough he starts tour the day Trey ends and only a few hours away…hmmm…can you say bus hand-off? Maybe so and maybe not.

Lastly we wrap up by listening to a few of your voicemails and reading an email we received. Thank you to everyone for your lot updates, make sure to keep them coming! The number is 419-NO-WOOKS, program it in your phone people! We can’t be everywhere at once.

Thank you again for all your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

Special Report: Stuck on the Porch (The Phish, Starr Hill, and Chew Toys Episode)

Listen to Special Report: Stuck on the Pouch

Here we have a quick episode to wrap up the MSG coverage. We talk about what we saw on lot, on the Pay Per View, and everything in between. Most importantly, we snagged an extra “foam meatstick” to give away. These are a hot item, already going on eBay for upwards of 60 bones. If you want to win one, it’s simple. Just leave a comment on the blog here telling us about your NYE, or, leave us a voice mail to the same effect, 419-NO-WOOKS. We will pick whatever story we like (perhaps randomly ;-) , and ship one off to the winner. Being that it is a new year, any of our listeners are eligible. The only ones who can’t win are TWoL hosts and their respective families. Contest ends at the start of the next episode.

We hope everyone had a great holiday season, and we will see you next week with a “Year in Review” episode. Thanks to everyone who made our holiday run so special, including “Toonces” for the NYE stub down, N8Dizzle for the Starr Hill, and Whipped Lightning for countless hours of shenanigans.

Thanks for listening.

Taped on location at our hotel in Auburn MA, Emilie and I give a quick rundown of our first 24 hours in Woosta. We give a minimal lot report, a mini show review, a ticket check, and even some shots of Whipped Lightning. Since this show was “in studio”, we ran the video camera, but unfortunately, it ends abruptly after the first 10 minutes.

Editorial: Phish MSG Pay Per View

Listen to Editorial: Phish PPV

As most of you are probably aware of at this time, Phish will be providing a Pay Per View experience for their sold out shows at MSG on 12/30, 12/31, and 1/1. This privilege will cost the viewer $15/$20 per night, or $40 for the bundle of all 3 nights. There has been a lot of chatter the past few days, some for, some against the PPV. Despite being on hiatus this week, hosts of both shows, This Week on Lot and Type II Cast, felt the need to discuss for a few minutes.

The panel this week includes Steve and Nick form TWoL, and Tanya and Eric from Type II.

What are your thoughts on the PPV?

TWoL 55: TWoL After Dark

Listen to Episode 55

Going live after midnight on the east coast, we thought it was only appropriate to title this episode “TWoL After Dark”. But we wanted to get in one last “normal” show of 2010, so we all grabbed a few drinks, and made it happen. Big ups to everyone in the chat room who stayed up late with us.

No big news this week on the jamband scene, so we hit you with all the standards; lot reports, ticket checks and whimsical banter. Don’t be hesitant on downloading this one however, it’s pure classic TWoL. Emilie saw a ton of music, Nick discusses the tap water situation in Vegas, and I play a lot of inappropriate sound bytes throughout. Some final advice before the Phish holiday run starts is given, and we fill everyone in on our plans for the same. Spoiler alert: WINE BAR!!!

Without a doubt, thanks to everyone who has been listening, whether from episode 1 or episode 54. We appreciate the support. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday, and we will see you guys on lot in Worcester.

Be good,

Steve

PS: Special thanks to friend of the show “fishinole1″ for a h3tty donation which we will put towards some stickers to hand out during this upcoming run.

TWoL 54: TWoL 54 Where are you?

Listen to Episode 54

Not too much going on this week so we spent most of the time talking about the shows we went to. Nick hit up DSO at the Hardrock Cafe in Vegas and Emilie saw Marco Trio. The DSO show had it’s fair share of wooks and old heads but was all around a good time.

The big news of the week was the Phish rerelease of tickets for the 01/01/11 show at MSG. Nick was able to score some great floor tickets Page Side and the twitter chat was others hit floors too. Looks like all of the TWoL crew finally has tickets for a least one show.

In other random news Nick picked up GoldenEye for the Wii last night. Steve and Nick reminisce about the good old days in college when we used to play for hours and skip class on the original N64 version. If you don’t know what GoldenEye is check out this link. TWoL is not responsible is you get hooked on the game.  =)

As always we take a listen to all the voicemails we received for the week, thank you to everyone who left us one.

Next weeks episode may have a schedule change, stay tuned to twitter at @thisweekonlot to find out exactly when the show is going to go down.

Once again thank you everyone for the support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 47: Stuff White People Like

Listen to Episode 47

We’ve got a very special episode of TWoL for you! Our guest this week is Caroline McCarthy from CNET. She comes to us to “defend” her comments on the 404 podcast episode where OkCupid reveals what white people like or at least they post on their dating page they like. Turns out what white guys over 30 like is Phish. It could be because many of them missed out on chasing girls in their 20′s because they were too busy chasing Phish around the country. You be the judge!

In a classic Bros vs. Brahs showdown we also discuss the difference in the female presence between a DMB show and a Phish show. Honestly way more females are at DMB shows then a Phish show, I don’t think it’s really an argument there. The point of discussion may be more around why? Leave us a voicemail and let us know your opinion on why such diversity between females at a DMB and females at Phish. 419-NO-WOOKS is the number to call!

Technology has brought the world together and information at your finger tips. People are more active and connected then ever, point in case Facebook and twitter. With the availability and connections you can create so easily, practical uses are exploding. If you’re an iPhone user there are now two Phish apps available, Live Phish and iTour.phish. If you’re an Android user there is only one Phish related app at this time, you can find it here.

Don’t forget there’s still time to sign up for the Atlantic City, NJ Phish tweetup. You don’t have to be on twitter to RSVP, come join us! You can RSVP at this link.

Last but not least we run through some voicemails. This week is a little interesting, we received all different kinds of voicemails. One of which appears to have been someones one phone call from jail. Thanks for providing a lot update even though you were locked up! For more details you’ll have to listen to the podcast. Don’t forget everyone that leaves us a voicemail during this Fall Tour will be eligible to win a Touropoly set from this month’s sponsor Touropoly.com.

Thank you everyone for the support, and we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 43: Glitter Reprise

We’ve got a lot going on this episode, so let’s dive right in! Jed Luckless is our guest this week. Jed is a jamband fan living in New York and performs a live stream on Wednesday’s that you can find here. He play’s jamband music and also performs some of his original tunes, one of which he debuts at the end of this podcast so make sure to stay to the finish.

Big news this week was the announcement and onsale of the Four Mile Canyon Revival Benefit show. This show is set to provide funding for the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund after the devastating fire in Boulder, CO. Artists to perform include, The String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Yonder Mountain String Band, and the members of Phish. Funny enough the members of Phish are not “billed” as Phish, but rather just their names which leads us to believe they will come out and jam separately but not actually perform as Phish. Tickets went onsale through Ticket Horse and it seems a lot of tickets were held back as the sellout was instantaneous. Score one for the promoters to keep these benefit tickets out of the hands of scalpers.

Our ticket check this week reveals that the Broomfield shows in CO are actually leading the way for the most expensive secondary market ticket. Kind of a shock seeing as all the buzz is around the Halloween weekend in Atlantic City but then again they are basically the only “west coast” shows.

Next up we discuss the ability for people to connect with each other with ease thanks to technology. It’s funny when you think back a few years when twitter and Facebook didn’t really exist how easy it is to connect with other people, especially famous people and musicians now, it’s like day and night. Case in point, Furthur has started tweeting out pictures of their set lists after their shows so fans can take a look at what they were thinking before the show started. Pretty cool if you ask us.

It’s not too often that something good comes from the message boards on PT but this weekend there was a thread that was pure gold. It’s all about a parody on the Bud Light commercials “Real Men of Genius”, except this version is all about wooks. Check it out and also take a listen as Steve tries his best to recreate one of these commercials on air.

We also have a tweetup planned for the Atlantic City shows, you don’t have to be on twitter to sign up. Check out the details here, it’s being held at a super classy joint.  ; )

As always we run through your voicemails, thank you everyone who left us a lot report, keep them coming! We’ll see you next week on lot!
