We’re not gonna lie. It was a tough night, kids. A slew of technical difficulties almost kept us from getting an episode on the books. Some perseverance from UNO finally got us off the ground a little over an hour behind schedule. Get that man a cigarette!
We dove right in to the news stories with a nod to our show’s title. You don’t want to get on Bobby’s bad side and we here at TWoL are in agreement with him. In other news we broke down the lineups for Camp Bisco, All Good, and Big Up and take a look at the Bowlive IV guests. Furthur has sold out 8 nights at the Cap and if you find yourself there you just might get questioned by DanMar. We’ll let her explain why. In other tour news, we’re “Still Waiting” for those Phish dates but SCI and WSP fans have something to shout about.
Tech News Tidbit: get on those Umphrey’s free ringtones this week.
After two nice voicemails (keep ‘em coming!) we debuted a new segment: Ask DanMar. This one already looks to be promising and we can’t wait to have the next batch of questions answered. If you want DanMar to answer your questions, (any and all questions) send inquiries to:
HAPPY NEW YEAR TWoLers! It’s 2013 and we are off to a good start. Well, a start at least. On tonight’s episode, we (Steve – Toonces – Katie) give our account of the shenanigans at MSG for the Phish holiday run. The building, tickets, antics, and much more are on the agenda. I’d tell you more but this is a podcast after all. Next, we hit your “lot reports” which include some Bob Weir action, inquiries into our “website,” and a FUTUREBIRDS report. Finally, we look ahead to some upcoming shows: Umphrey’s McGee, Ryan Montbleau Band, EOTO, and Dark Star Orchestra.
We hope everyone out there had a great holiday season and wonderful new years.
TWoL is pleased to hook someone up with a guest pass to the very best (IMHO) Phish MSG after party. The show takes place this Sunday, 12/30/12 at 11:55pm at Rebel NYC, which is just one block from MSG. Rebel contains four separate rooms on 2 different floors. One ticket gets you into all four rooms. Wyllys & the NY Hustler Ensemble and Kung Fu will alternate sets in the Performance Hall. The Heavy Pets will play two sets in The Loft. DJs will appear in the VIP Room as well as in the Loft before and in between sets of The Heavy Pets.
All you have to do to win is fill out the form below. Or leave a comment with linked email address, facebook or twitter. We need to be a able to get in contact with you. That’s all that matters .
If you want to just buy a ticket for this event, you can grab them here. Also, feel free to spread this post around the interwebs, but it’s not required to win.
This episode will be the gang’s last regular episode of 2012. Steve, Toonces and I recorded on a Tuesday night just like we used to. We discussed YEMSG, of course. We talked after parties, tweet-ups, the state of public trasportation post-Sandy, and the MSG renovations/death of MSG as we knew and loved it.
Toonces also ran through the Heavy Pets tour dates for the rest of the year. And if you are too busy Christmas shopping to hit up any more shows make sure you check out PhanArt’s Holiday Gift Guide. Finally we did a quick run through of what shows we have all seen recently.
Steve and I will be coming to you next with Special Reports from Mayan Holidaze. And check us out during YEMSG for Special Reports featuring us, Toonces, and special guests. We’ve been light on lot reports lately. Don’t forget to call and leave us a message at 419.NO.WOOKS.
Well, it’s been about a month since the last TWoL. Honestly though, it wasn’t our fault. There were quite the scheduling conflicts, Superstorm Sandy, and then live music. With so much to cover it was tough to decide where to start. Long story short, this episode contains reviews a plenty covering all the music we saw. This includes Trey, Phil, Everyone Orchestra, and Umphrey’s McGee. As a bonus, we also have PhanArt’s coverage of the Bear Creek Festival. Finally, we look ahead to Conspirator in NYC and Ryan Montbleau in Philly.
Hopefully you didn’t forget about us. We have lots in store for the fall and New Years. Stay tuned!!
To start, we are joined by special TWoL correspondent Danielle (aka @DanMar85) who held down the end of Phish summer tour on the twitterz for us. She gives some great tips about travel to the dirty south including info on the venues, where to stay, what beer to drink and more. Toonces was down south as well, and he’s got his own stories to share.
Next, Danielle goes deep on Dick’s with tons of protips for seeing Phish in the mile high city. Where to stay, how to get to the venue, and even what to wear is discussed. If you are thinking about going the next time Phish rolls through CO you don’t want to miss out. With the throw down being objectively epic this year and the rumors there are two more years left in the contract, there are no excuses not to go next year.
Finally, we had some great voicemails (419-NO-WOOKS) and then pondered the Bieber effect on Phish tour. Ever since his appearance at the leg 2 tour opener in Long Beach the internets have been a buzz. Beiber’s guitarist Dan Kanter is quite the head and has been tweeting about his run at Dick’s. The result: my tweetdeck is blowing up with 1,000s of RT’s from this instagram.
As usual, thanks for listening, tell a friend, and we will see you guys at Catskill Chill this weekend.
This week on lot, Nick returned for a second consecutive show. And he even saw some Phish! He recapped his experiences at Long Beach and nights one and two of Bill Graham just for you guys. We also tackled the webcast drama and the drama about phish editorials before we ran a quick ticket check for the rest of tour. Stay tuned to our twitter page for coverage of Alabama, Atlanta, Charlotte and Denver from Toonces and friends of the show @DanMar85 and @_Carini_.
The last few weeks also saw a number of Phish side projects announcements for the fall. Trey announced a short tour in support of his new album, which will be released on October 16th. Page will be playing two Halloween shows with the Meter Men right here in NYC. And Fishman will be playing three shows, also in the Big Apple, with Everyone Orchestra. Your move Cactus…
Steve and I were also excited about the just released Catskill Chill schedule, since we will both be hitting up that festival in Hancock, NY from September 7-9. And we rounded out the show by looking at the recently announced Panic en la Playa which goes on sale tomorrow.
On a personal note, I would like to say Congrats to our two remaining OG TWoL hosts and founders, Steve and Nick (and all past and present TWoLers) as we celebrate our three year anniversary this week. Thanks to all of you who have listened, called in and raged with us at shows. Please call or email us your favorite TWoL memories, or suggestions for the future, or whatever you damn well feel like at 419.NO.WOOKS or info@thisweekonlot.com. And please stick around with us for the next three years!
This week’s show was a bit of a departure for TWoL. We recorded on a Sunday night and without a script of any kind. Listen in as Steve, Toonces and I wing it and talk about what we’ve been up to during the month of July. We cover the end of Phish’s leg 1, particularly Jones Beach and SPAC. (Check out our Phish tour pictures here). Then Toonces fills us in on Furthur at Merriweather and various RVA shows. Watch our Twitter starting this Wednesday and through the weekend to see his coverage of Vibes. In this episode you will also hear a ticket check/lot report mash up. Thanks as always to those who called in and don’t forget our number when you are out at shows: 419.NO.WOOKS. And a special shout out to those who live streamed this week and participated in the show. We couldn’t do this without our fantastic listeners. Until next time, stay cool everyone!
Hey everyone, TWoL is back and we have a lot of ground to cover for this episode. We last checked in at the First Tube Poster Show, which was a lot of fun. Since then, we hit up nTelos and had a correspondent for the Ohio >PA >Ohio run. Big ups to our buddy Carini for covering that weekend for us. TWoL proper will be back for Jones Beach, but in the meantime we will have you covered for Deer Creek and Alpine Valley. Our buddys Ali and Erica will be taking the controls, so be sure to keep us locked on your twitter. We have some good voicemails this week. Be sure to hit us up at 419-NO-WOOKS to keep us up to date on your travels. Finally, we run through some of TWoLs destinations in the near future. Give this episode a listen and get the full scoop.
Take care everyone. And remember: Lushington signs at Jones Beach 7/4 will be appreciated.
This past weekend, during Phish’s stellar three day Atlantic City run, the Mothership Art Collective presented the First Tube Poster Show and TWoL was on hand, reporting live. The show was held on Saturday at the Trump Plaza Casino and featured more than a dozen artists from across the country, selling posters, pins, tee-shirts and all manner of other Phish and music related art. The event was a great success pulling in an estimated 1,000 fans. The artists and fans alike were in great spirits and the buzz in the room was positively electric. Steve ran the show for TWoL, while Toonces and I worked the crowd. Listen in to the edited version of the live stream to hear interviews with artists and fans. This is a great listen for those who missed the event and for those who want to relive it. Thanks to Pete “Phanart” Mason for inviting TWoL and to the Mothership Art Collective for putting on such a great event. I am already looking forward to a bigger and better event on the next tour!
Beyond the poster show, we give the basic rundown about Bader Field and Atlantic City in general. Since this was recorded Saturday afternoon, there is not much to say about the shows. For a full recap on all the music, be sure to tune into the next type 2 cast.
Until next time, enjoy tour, travel safely and rage proper!
It’s myself and PhanArt. He’s been on many a TWoL before. We talk about his recent trip to Hangout Fest and my trip to the Googa Mooga. We run through your voice mails. There’s some deep analysis re: Phish tour > tickets, the poster show, and tweetups. Lastly, no Steve/Pete TWoL would be complete without all the necessary Bisco updates. What does this mean for you? Laughter. Tears. Awkward moments.
Tons of stories to cover this week, let’s get right into it!
First and foremost, Phish tickets go on sale tomorrow morning! If you got screwed in the lottery, and from the looks of the twitter updates we’ve seen you didn’t, hop on tomorrow bright and early. One thing to note is that SPAC tickets will have a 3 day “package” ticket you can go for on LiveNation. Good luck to all, and remember if you wook out and oversleep it’s your damn fault you didn’t get those h3tty pavilions brahs. Don’t say that TWoL didn’t try and help you out with the heads up!
If scalping is your thing Phish.net had a great recent post about how to obtain scalper software at the low low cost of about 4k. Personally I think we should get some of us together pitch in and buy the software, get great seats, sell them to our friends or put them on Cash or Trade, and beat the scalpers at their own game. Time to stop bitching and do something about the problem. Leave us a voicemail and let us know if your interested in pitching in. 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.
In other Phish news 2/17/90 has been posted onto youtube and includes almost 2 hours of footage. If you’ve got some time to kill we recommend checking it out, remember it’s 1990 in the video so the quality is what it is but it’s been remastered so it looks pretty damn good for being that old. Check it out!
If you’re into drinking beer and who isn’t, you need to check out this cool new service that allows you to tweet a beer to a friend and paypal the money to cover it. We thought “hey we like beer” and “hey this is pretty cool” so we decided to include it in this weeks episode. Have fun tweeting and drinking!
Moe.down is celebrating their 13th festival and can you believe there’s been 13 of them? We were kind of taking back there has been so many but I guess time flies when you’re jamming out. The are returning to their original location of Snow Ridge, NY this summer. If you got the means and the ways we recommend you check out Moe.down!
So somehow we stumbled across this site called ThisIsMyJam.com and thought it was interesting. It’s similar to Spotify in you can create a playlist but the premise for this site seems to be that your play list is only one song? Not sure what else the site is all about, feel free to check it out and give us feedback if you like, don’t like, or if you know more than we do.
Rock n’ Roll Resort is going on again this year and it looks like Sphongle is headlining. Steve and Laura went last year and had a good time, the venue has changed this year so we’re not sure how that will affect things but it’s sure to be a good time if you’re into the untz.
We had a few great voicemails this week, thanks to those that took the time to leave us a lot report. Remember to give us an update on the shows you attend and tell us about the scene! Thank you to all our listeners we really appreciate your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!
Happy Phish tour announcement week kids!! It’s the most wonderful time of the year besides, well, tour itself.
But first, a big congrats to TWoLer Stuart White, winner of our Aura Music Festival ticket giveaway. Stuart won a pair of tickets to this festie, being held down in FL March 9-11. Remember to follow TWoL on Facebook and Twitter and keep your eyes peeled for upcoming ticket giveaways and you could be our next big winner.
As I’m sure all of you heard, Phish summer tour leg 1 was announced in typical Phishy fashion yesterday, on Leap Day, with a hilarious and only slightly disturbing video detailing Fishman’s pre-tour training regimen. The tour includes stops at many of Phish’s favorite stomping grounds like Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, SPAC and Jones Beach. There is also some kind of mini-festival stop in Atlantic City (don’t forget your Maltese Falcon). You can request tickets through PTBM until Monday, March 12th. Listen along as we discuss each stop, the flow of the tour in general and TWoL’s plans for the summer.
Also in this episode we discuss Ticketmaster’s new iOS app, released just in time for Phish on-sales. In more ticket news, Bonnaroo and Phil Lesh had some major ticket debacles in the last few weeks. And in festival news we talked about the All Good and Mountain Jam lineups.
And of course, we heard your voicemails. Including perhaps the most epically crude voicemail that TWoL has ever received. Don’t miss this one! And don’t forget to call in and profess your love to us (or to just leave a plain old fashioned lot report) at 419.NO.WOOKS.
Four hosts, Steve, Emilie, Toonces and Katie, came out to celebrate our 99th Episode tonight. In case you missed his awesome special report from the boat Steve gave us a quick rundown of his Jamcruise experience. Dressing up at shows people, it’s the new black.
We quickly moved on to Emilie so she could run out and catch the superfly Rick James & the Name Changers. Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook to hear updates from all her upcoming New England area shows.
Next Steve and I talked about the Umphrey’s McGee 14th Anniversary run last week in NYC. Umphrey’s is on fire right now, if the scarcity of tickets outside was any indication. Toonces also reported what sounds like a fantastic Railroad Earth show down in Virginia last weekend.
We had one voicemail this week, discussing a rather unfortunate experience in NYC following the YEMSG run. We wanna hear about your 2012 shows! Call us anytime at 419.NO.WOOKS.
Finally, of course, we discussed Phish rumors. With so many floating around right now (Bethel, Atlantic City, Vegas…) who knows what is true. But it is probably time to start booking refundable hotel rooms! Also, it’s time to start planning your summer festival schedule. On the TWoL radar: Camp Bisco, Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes and Floyd Fest. Finally, we look ahead to 2013. These kids wanna go to Mayan Holidaze and need an in! Let’s make a deal…
Stephen T, Noob Laura and myself hit up all 3 nights of Phish at Bethel Woods. We had hoped to set up on lot, but unfortunately couldn’t pull it off this time. So we did the next best thing, and sat down at the hotel on Sunday to discuss our thoughts up through the first 2 nights. We are happy to report that the whole experience was an overall success. Not much drama was seen, locals were welcoming, and the weather was on our side. Without a doubt, we hope to see Phish return here, and that it stays a 3 night run stop.
Don’t forget to send us in your stories, whether it be about the lot, your campsite, or the locals selling BBQ on the side of the road. Hit us up on the usual number, 419-NO-WOOKS. (419-669-6657)
There isn’t too much going on this week so this episode was basically a lot of ranting so take it with a grain of salt.
One of the points we did cover was the Railroad Earth show at the Wellmont Theater. Steve is planning on hitting this show up so make sure to keep an eye on the TWoL twitter feed for lot updates. If you are in the area, be sure to come out. Not only is it their 10th anniversary show, Jackie Greene will be supporting.
We also saw that Phish announced the details for their volunteer program at SuperBall IX. Basically you have to give them your credit card and have a “hold” put on it. Once you prove you’re not a total spunion or crusty wook and actually work your shift the hold is removed and alas you see the show for $15.
Lastly we would like to point out that there are only 30 VIP tickets for Friday at Gathering Of The Vibes. Better snag a ticket kick brahs and sisbrahs as these are going quick!
We’ve got a lot going on this episode, so let’s dive right in! Jed Luckless is our guest this week. Jed is a jamband fan living in New York and performs a live stream on Wednesday’s that you can find here. He play’s jamband music and also performs some of his original tunes, one of which he debuts at the end of this podcast so make sure to stay to the finish.
Big news this week was the announcement and onsale of the Four Mile Canyon Revival Benefit show. This show is set to provide funding for the Boulder Mountain Fire Relief Fund after the devastating fire in Boulder, CO. Artists to perform include, The String Cheese Incident, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Yonder Mountain String Band, and the members of Phish. Funny enough the members of Phish are not “billed” as Phish, but rather just their names which leads us to believe they will come out and jam separately but not actually perform as Phish. Tickets went onsale through Ticket Horse and it seems a lot of tickets were held back as the sellout was instantaneous. Score one for the promoters to keep these benefit tickets out of the hands of scalpers.
Our ticket check this week reveals that the Broomfield shows in CO are actually leading the way for the most expensive secondary market ticket. Kind of a shock seeing as all the buzz is around the Halloween weekend in Atlantic City but then again they are basically the only “west coast” shows.
Next up we discuss the ability for people to connect with each other with ease thanks to technology. It’s funny when you think back a few years when twitter and Facebook didn’t really exist how easy it is to connect with other people, especially famous people and musicians now, it’s like day and night. Case in point, Furthur has started tweeting out pictures of their set lists after their shows so fans can take a look at what they were thinking before the show started. Pretty cool if you ask us.
It’s not too often that something good comes from the message boards on PT but this weekend there was a thread that was pure gold. It’s all about a parody on the Bud Light commercials “Real Men of Genius”, except this version is all about wooks. Check it out and also take a listen as Steve tries his best to recreate one of these commercials on air.
We also have a tweetup planned for the Atlantic City shows, you don’t have to be on twitter to sign up. Check out the details here, it’s being held at a super classy joint. ; )
As always we run through your voicemails, thank you everyone who left us a lot report, keep them coming! We’ll see you next week on lot!
After missing last week, we had to make it up this week with an extra long episode for you with a packed house on the podcast. Our friends Andrew and Mike from GlowStickWars.com join us as well as our friend Eric from the now infamous SKYGATE2010 scandal.
Emilie is back from Telluride and Steve made it out of Jones Beach unscathed, even though it was raining men…I mean wooks. But in all seriousness we here at TWoL are glad the fan was ultimately not seriously injured, although we don’t encourage or condone this type of behavior.
So the big news is that Phish Fall Tour was finally announced today! Some rumors were true and as usual some were totally bunk. Our friend Scotty from YEMblog has a great rundown of the venues slated for this Fall as well as the capacities that each can hold. It looks like this tour Phish is keeping it short, small, and sweet with no venue holding more than 14,000 a night. Although the tickets are $10 more this year, we discuss the possible reasons for the higher rates and how this could affect lot economics. Are the days of 2 for 5 over? Say it ain’t so.
Furthermore, for the second year in a row fans will be treated to a Halloween show, will there be a cover this time and what album will they cover? You’ll have to listen to the podcast to hear our predictions. You can see all the dates and ticket info here.
This was the last week for picture contest entries, congratulations to our friend and long time listener Tyler for his winning photo he took. We would also like to give a big thank you again to Andrew and Mike for being the TWoL sponsor for second leg of Phish Summer Tour! You can see Tyler’s winning entry below.
Last but certainly never least we run through your voicemails. Thank you to everyone who submitted a lot report we received a TON of reports from fans the past 2 weeks, keep them coming! We would like to give a special shout out to Jessica F. the winner of our CID Entertainment travel package to Alpine Valley. She left one of the most thorough lot reports we’ve ever received and it sounds like CID Entertainment took care of business and she had a blast!
Don’t forget to keep the lot reports coming and we’ll see you next week on lot!
The 2nd leg of Phish tour has started and it’s off with a bang! Emilie is absent this week as she was abducted by some wooks and forced to travel to Telluride, we make an attempt to contact her at the show but alas it was not to be. Apparently it was one hell of ride to get from the Greek to Telluride, she’ll be back next week to fill us in on experience.
Nick just got back from 3 nights at the Greek theater and runs through the “lot” scene or lack there of, as well as a talk about the beauty of the venue both in location and the sound. There was plenty of wooks around, I mean it’s Berkeley, CA but for the most part he managed to ignore the spunions and have a pretty good time. Take a listen to the podcast to get the whole story.
We also run a ticket check to see what Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, and Jones Beach tickets are running, not surprisingly seems like they hovering around face for lawns and slightly above for pavilions. If anybody has an extra Tuesday they are looking to unload Steve is still on the hunt.
This week we had our friend Spike on and he runs through a lot report for the Big Up Festival held in Ghent, NY. This festival combined different types of music and art, from the untz to jambands. All in all it sounds like a good time, you’ll have to take a listen to the podcast to hear full details.
As always we run through your voicemails to hear what’s going on in your lot. Thank you everyone who left a message, keep them coming!
Last but not least we run through the photos for our contest to win free glow sticks, from GlowStickWars.com. This week’s winner is Noob Laura for her picture of spunions wearing glowsticks and staring at flames. Keep your photo submissions coming and remember to put GSW in the subject line of your email so we don’t miss it. Once again that email address is info@thisweekonlot.com hit us up!
This week we have some very special guests/sponsors on the show all the way from Canada! Andrew and Mike join us from GlowStickWars.com and we discuss a little about their site and what they’re all about. They will also be giving away glowsticks to a few lucky listeners during the 2nd leg of Phish tour this summer. For details on how to win you’ll have to listen to the podcast.
With the first leg of Phish Summer Tour 2010 done and the 2nd part getting ready to start it’s about time some bunk Phish Fall Tour 2010 dates started to show up. This little gem was plucked from the intrawebz, besides Austin City Limits and the heavily rumored Vegas shows, TWoL is calling nanners on the rest of it. You think that if this was an official list they would at least be able to spell Gainesville right. Hopefully we have to eat our words and the whole thing comes true, but let’s just say we aren’t holding our breath.
In other news Steve is heading to Camp Bisco 9 this weekend where he will be attempting to get some h3tty interviews from the lot and festival scene while getting down with the untz. There’s a ton of amazing music lined up you can check out all the artists here, it all culminates with 3 shows by the Disco Biscuits. If you haven’t secured your tickets for this untz filled weekend, don’t worry tickets are still available at the gate. For more info on tickets for Camp Bisco 9 check out this link. Don’t forget your flatbrim people, it’s going to be one hell of a weekend!
Thank you again to everyone who left us voicemails, we play a few of them at the end of this episode and Nick nearly vomits when he hears where a wookette’s tongue has traveled. To hear the gruesome story you’ll to tune and take a listen. Peace everyone, we’ll see you next week on the lot!
After a few weeks on Phish tour and at High Sierra Music Festival the entire crew of TWoL is back for this episode! Emilie has been going nonstop since June 17th wooking it up with the best of them and has tales of tour from coast to coast.
We have a review of all the Phish lots we’ve been to since the last time we left our listeners at Merriweather. There were a lot of wooks, even more cops, some serious bust outs from the band, and Steve learns that luke warm wine from a bag doesn’t sell well on the lot. Just goes to show there’s always a lesson on the lot.
We received a TON of voicemails since our last full episode and we appreciate everyone leaving us amazing lot reports. There was so many we couldn’t get to all of them but we tried to bring you the best of the best. Looks like a lot of folks from Phish tour left us messages as well as some from Furthur. Keep them coming!
Last but not least we try out a new segment on the show reviewing a random search term people used to find our blog. We’re not exactly sure how the googles navigated people to our site from this term and even what the person really meant. You be the judge!
Thanks again to PhanArt for sponsoring us this month and to everyone who left voicemails. We’ll be announcing the random winner of the PhanArt package giveaway next week. Until then see you on the lot!
