TWoL 124: I Guess I Just Wanna Get SPAC Lawns for Sure

Listen to Episode 124

This week, TWoL was saved by a last minute host substitution. So to begin, special thanks to Fee the Prodigy (Matt) for bravely jumping in as the guest host about 10 minutes before we aired!

We covered a variety of topics this week, beginning with Trey’s announcement that Phish will begin to record a new album today. Sounds like some Trey trickery to us, but TWoL definitely supports a new Phish album this year. Also in Phish news, the venue on Northerly Island in Chicago has officially been approved to expand to fit 30,000 fans. So no worries about getting a ticket for those shows.

In festie news, we checked out the new Jamcruise boat and we suggest you do the same while you await the May 1st lineup announcement and site launch. Also be sure to scope the initial lineups for TWoL favorite, Gathering of the Vibes and the perennially popular High Sierra.

We touched upon Raq‘s upcoming reunion tour and Umphrey’s new Headphones & Snowcones initiative. And we had two great voicemails this week from the Dirty South. Underground Villain and ATL Mel never fail to disappoint!

To round out the ep we talked about our goings ons for the last few weeks. Fee caught some Juggling Suns, Hot Buttered Rum, and Cabinet and is looking forward to Marco, Keller, and UMBowl. Steve briefed us on the French wook situation after his experience at Wayne Krantz. And we briefly discussed TWoL NYC’s trips to Bowlive and Ghosts of Jupiter at Brooklyn Bowl.

We will be back in a two weeks, hopefully with fistfuls of Phish tickets. Thanks for listening!

TWoL 122: STFU

Listen to Episode 122

We’re not gonna lie. It was a tough night, kids.  A slew of technical difficulties almost kept us from getting an episode on the books.  Some perseverance from UNO finally got us off the ground a little over an hour behind schedule.  Get that man a cigarette!

We dove right in to the news stories with a nod to our show’s title.  You don’t want to get on Bobby’s bad side and we here at TWoL are in agreement with him.  In other news we broke down the lineups for Camp Bisco, All Good, and Big Up and take a look at the Bowlive IV guests.  Furthur has sold out 8 nights at the Cap and if you find yourself there you just might get questioned by DanMar.  We’ll let her explain why.  In other tour news, we’re “Still Waiting” for those Phish dates but SCI and WSP fans have something to shout about.

Tech News Tidbit: get on those Umphrey’s free ringtones this week.

After two nice voicemails (keep ‘em coming!) we debuted a new segment: Ask DanMar.  This one already looks to be promising and we can’t wait to have the next batch of questions answered. If you want DanMar to answer your questions, (any and all questions) send inquiries to:

Have a great week and see you soon!

Toonces

TWoL 121: TWoLquila

Listen to Episode 121

Strap yourselves in for a long episode this week, folks. Apparently the Steves and I had a lot of things we needed to get off our chests (and a lot of tequila to drink).

We began by discussing a Furthur Living Social deal that we spied for their upcoming show in Broomfield, CO. We also had a brief UMPH update regarding their newly released 15th anniversary book and Ryan Stasik’s fondness for “beautifully drawn black sharpie penis[es].” We then took a listen to Kai, the wook hitchhiker who has been all over the news lately. Can’t ignore a mainstream wook story!

Next we dove into festival line up announcements and Phish tour rumors, since we are still (impatiently) waiting for that announcement. Check out our discussion of the Rock N Roll Resort, Bonnaroo, Peach Fest and Delfest lineups.

And finally, stay tuned for Toonces’ amusing anecdote about what happened when EOTO rolled through Richmond and a lot report from the Jim James show in Brooklyn.

Please excuse the mid-episode tequila shot break and singing and thanks to the chat room for helping us name this episode. As always we greatly appreciate the listeners who live stream and chat with us and those who call in lot reports (419.NO.WOOKS). Thanks guys!

We will be back in two weeks with our new “Ask DanMar” segment. Please submit questions about any topic on Twitter or Facebook, to info@thisweekonlot or in the comments sections below. Make your questions serious, crazy or just plain funny. She will answer anything!

Until next time, party on!

TWoL 120: Unicorns Eating Tacos

Listen to Episode 120

This week on the program, Steve, Danmar and I were excited to talk about Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, which all three of us attended at Brooklyn Bowl. We (along with the rest of NYC it seems) were stoked about some of our favorite musicians playing some awesome Dead covers. So if you weren’t there, give the show a spin and see what you missed. ;)

We also quickly ran through this week’s announcement of UMBowl IV, which will return to Chicago on April 26th. Good luck during the ticket on-sale being held this Friday at noon CST! Next we looked at a handful of upcoming festivals: Rock N Roll Resort, Some Kind of Jam 8, Sasquatch!, Mountain Jam, and Electric Forest.

And finally, we revisited DanMar’s fashion corner with an update on everyone’s favorite clothier, Esther’s Attic, and premiered a new segment called “What were you Googling, brah?”. During this segment we examined puzzling/funny Google searches that led people to our humble website. Listen in for details but let me just say it involved wooks, spunions, flat brims, dicks, mustaches and unicorns eating tacos (aka all the finer things in life).

Unfortunately we had no voice mails this week. I am starting to feel very neglected! Please call in your lot reports to 419.NO.WOOKS. Our episodes are way better when you guys are involved! Speaking of listener participation though, thanks to everyone in the chat room last night and to Ian for throwing us a donation this week!

Until next time, stay warm and eat tacos!

Episode 119: Now Featuring Neon

Listen to Episode 119

This week on the podcast Toonces and I welcome new host Danmar. She has guested and manned our twitter account a few times over the last year and always to critical acclaim. So we spend a few minutes getting to know her better and then move on to discuss some of the recent updates to the website and the show’s syndication on the Stitcher app. At the end of the day, this should make the show easier for everyone to consume. For the second half of this week’s program, we give some quick updates on Trey and UM tour before sharing our thoughts on some Festie line-ups that dropped. Last but not least, we hit the voice mailbox and look ahead to what’s on our music calendars for the upcoming weeks.

See you guys in few,

- Steve

PS: Here is the link to the ETSY shop Danmar mentioned, and this is the outro “music”.

Special Report: Mayan Holidaze 2012 (podcast)

Listen to Special Report Mayan Holidaze

We got a little delayed by YEMSG but in good old “better late than never” style we are happy to present you with our special report from Mayan Holidaze. On this episode we welcomed first time guest, Laura K. (aka @glitterfairee). Laura, Steve and I survived the Apocalypse and the “Biggest Wook Party in the World” and now we are here to give you the inside scoop. This festival, thrown by Cloud 9, The Disco Biscuits, Umphrey’s McGee and STS9, was the first Holidaze for all three of us. In this episode we attempted to sum up our thoughts about this unique festie experience. We tackled travel, the resort, the food, the music and gave our suggestions for future Holidaze. For photos and more of Steve‘s thoughts from Holidaze check out our Facebook page and the blogs he wrote during the festie. If you were at Holidaze please leave us a comment here or call us at 419.NO.WOOKS and share your thoughts/memories. And as always, stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter to follow our adventures in real time.

Happy New Year everyone! Be well!

Mayan Holidaze – 2012 (blog)

IMG_8428

The New Camp Bisco – posted 12/24/12

We made it back safe and sound. Good times were had, and we plan on giving a proper “special report”. Expect to see something Wednesday or Thursday night. Lots of pics on Facebook in the meantime.

Cheers!

Holidaze: Don’t Lose Your Wristband – posted 12/19/2012

Well, it’s day 3 here in Mexico. The TWoL crew is a little sun burnt but the good times continue. Due to continued wonky tronz, just thought we’d give a quick update.  (Super quick, will save full review for the normal podcast).

- Cloud 9 is crushing it keeping everyone happy and safe here. We have reports have people who tried to wook there way onto the resort from Strings and Sol, got busted, and were removed.

- Also, ocean currents can get pretty dangerous at times. Resort staff are constantly making sure no one drifts away.

- Beyond the bar staff being worked to the bone keeping the booze flowing, they also send waiters with random drinks through the crowd during the shows. Didn’t expect this and its pretty sweet. You could literally drink a 1,000 beers.

- Lunch and dinner here is good to above average. Breakfast and late night get a meh. (Just keeping things real.)

- Umphrey’s crushed it last night. Period.

- We aren’t doing any excursions, so nothing to report back on that. Also, photos and updates will be sporadic. This is a vacation after all.

Talk to y’all soon.

-Steve

Holidaze: The First 24 – posted 12/18/12

This following is review of the scene here at Mayan Holidaze. It is written, obviously, from my perspective, but I attempt to address what I believe the average reader would imagine occurs at this festival.

It’s no surprise to any regular listener of the podcast that I’m the resident Bisco lover at the TWoL studio. I saw them play an afternoon set at the Summer Sun Music Festival in 1998 and have hit my fair share of Camp Biscos, New Years, and few shows in between. Bundle that with living in the Northeast and being in my mid-30’s, you can probably fit me into a dying breed of fan for this scene. It seems that while the Phish fan base evolved with me on some level, Bisco fans hold steady as younger and more in line with EDM (Electronic Dance Music) culture.

And it’s the stereotypical EDM fan whom I would believe most people picture being here.  The early 20-something in a flat brimmed hat, with a heady crystal and fly kicks. There would be rage sticks, laser pointers, and chicks in those animal hat things. This is what Camp Bisco and many other festivals have become, which all well and fine. Except with that comes a division between those who just want to party and those who come for the music. So personally, I was not worried to find that contingent here. It’s too costly and the lineup is too small.

So who actually does make up this crowd of 1,000 guests on site and 300 with day pass privileges? Well, it’s really neither of the above mentioned demographics. With a fair amount of confidence, I’d most people here are late 20’s / early 30’s, they love the bands headlining, and they are all really friendly. Everyone I’ve chatted with so far has been stated Bisco as their main reason for coming, with a surprising low number of UM fans. Perhaps after Umphrey’s takes the stage tonight I’ll have a different report, but for now that has been the story (which is honestly surprising to me).

The feel to this place is very organic. There are no rage sticks, laser pointers, or LED hoola hoops. I haven’t come across any passed out wooks or noticed the Safety Team having to rescue anyone. Not that I personally expected to see this, but it’s worth noting as the above have become all too common at a lot of festivals these days. All that said, yes there are a lot of flat brims, dreadlocks, and more tattoos than I could count. But there are babies too. A lot of babies. I definitely wouldn’t envy a single guy here, as all the chicks seem taken. Sorry packs of bros!

So as I type this poolside, drinking a margarita, I’m excited for day 2. The crowd here is unique, but friendly and here for the right reasons. By today, everyone should have finally arrived and the music and activities get into full swing. Last night was just an appetizer and everyone is definitely hungry for more. I’ll plan to report back again tomorrow with some thoughts on the Resort itself and the overall Cloud 9 production. In the meantime, you can follow along with updates and pics from our Twitter and Facebook feed.

Thanks for listening,
Steve

TWoL 116: Bath Salts

Listen to Episode 116

Well, it’s been about a month since the last TWoL. Honestly though, it wasn’t our fault. There were quite the scheduling conflicts, Superstorm Sandy, and then live music. With so much to cover it was tough to decide where to start. Long story short, this episode contains reviews a plenty covering all the music we saw. This includes Trey, Phil, Everyone Orchestra, and Umphrey’s McGee. As a bonus, we also have PhanArt’s coverage of the Bear Creek Festival. Finally, we look ahead to Conspirator in NYC and Ryan Montbleau in Philly.

Hopefully you didn’t forget about us. We have lots in store for the fall and New Years. Stay tuned!!

TWoL 115: Hassled by the Mann

Listen to Episode 115

Steve, Toonces and I brought you an impromptu late show last night to fill everyone in on what has been happening in TWoL-land. We had a brave few following along live with us but for most of you this episode will be all new.

First, we discussed City Bisco, which went down last weekend at the Mann Center in Philly. Some of Steve’s pictures from this mini-fest are included below. Also happening last weekend was the Festy Experience down in VA. Then, we had a great lot report from Natty Boh country and did a quick run through of YEMSG ticket on-sale info and strategy. And be sure you don’t miss our new segment “Toonces Has a Bone to Pick.”  Finally, we had to give a shout-out to the Bieber controversy. Twitter has the Phieber!

We’ll be back in a week or two to discuss Marco, Umphrey’s, Conspirator, lottery results and more. As always, thanks for listening and please call in your lot reports to 419.NO.WOOKS. Good luck in the lottery! Only 78 days ’til YEMSG!

Be well,

Katie

TWoL 114: Coming Attractions

Listen to Episode 114

This week on lot, Steve and I were joined by returning guest, Danielle. You brought good reviews after her last appearance so we brought her back. We discussed a ton of upcoming shows to help you plan your fall schedule. First, we looked at the options for NYE. Of course, we are assuming that Phish will be back at MSG but if that’s not your thang check out one of these great NYE runs:

Bisco (NYC)

SCI, Yonder and STS9 (CO)

Umphrey’s and P Groove (Atlanta)

moe. (Worchester and Portland)

Lotus (Chicago > PA > MD)

Leftover Salmon (Chicago)

Lights All Night (TX)

Additionally, we talked about Trey Band’s fall tour and the recently announced Phil & Friends NY/NJ run coming up in November.

Thanks to regular callers Neighbor Nick, Underground Villain and ATL Mel. Check out our Facebook page for a picture of the Villain’s rage stick. We’re a little low on lot reports lately, folks, and we want to hear from you! 419.NO.WOOKS is the number.

We’ll be back with a recap of City Bisco in a week or so. Until then, book your NYE flights and hotels and fill us in on what shows you are attending and any travel deals/tips you find. Happy planning!

Be well,

Katie

Episode 110: Pulsing Dongs (& Dumpster Babies) (Podcast)

Listen to Episode 110

This week’s show was a bit of a departure for TWoL.  We recorded on a Sunday night and without a script of any kind.  Listen in as Steve, Toonces and I wing it and talk about what we’ve been up to during the month of July.  We cover the end of Phish’s leg 1, particularly Jones Beach and SPAC.  (Check out our Phish tour pictures here).  Then Toonces fills us in on Furthur at Merriweather and various RVA shows.  Watch our Twitter starting this Wednesday and through the weekend to see his coverage of Vibes.  In this episode you will also hear a ticket check/lot report mash up.  Thanks as always to those who called in and don’t forget our number when you are out at shows:  419.NO.WOOKS.  And a special shout out to those who live streamed this week and participated in the show.  We couldn’t do this without our fantastic listeners.  Until next time, stay cool everyone!

Episode 109: You Suck at Tucking! (Podcast)

twol109

Hey everyone, TWoL is back and we have a lot of ground to cover for this episode. We last checked in at the First Tube Poster Show, which was a lot of fun. Since then, we hit up nTelos and had a correspondent for the Ohio >PA >Ohio run. Big ups to our buddy Carini for covering that weekend for us. TWoL proper will be back for Jones Beach, but in the meantime we will have you covered for Deer Creek and Alpine Valley. Our buddys Ali and Erica will be taking the controls, so be sure to keep us locked on your twitter. We have some good voicemails this week. Be sure to hit us up at 419-NO-WOOKS to keep us up to date on your travels. Finally, we run through some of TWoLs destinations in the near future. Give this episode a listen and get the full scoop.

Take care everyone. And remember: Lushington signs at Jones Beach 7/4 will be appreciated.

TWoL 103: Pulled Pork and Martinis

Listen to Episode 103

Tons of stories to cover this week, let’s get right into it!

First and foremost, Phish tickets go on sale tomorrow morning! If you got screwed in the lottery, and from the looks of the twitter updates we’ve seen you didn’t, hop on tomorrow bright and early. One thing to note is that SPAC tickets will have a 3 day “package” ticket you can go for on LiveNation. Good luck to all, and remember if you wook out and oversleep it’s your damn fault you didn’t get those h3tty pavilions brahs. Don’t say that TWoL didn’t try and help you out with the heads up!

If scalping is your thing Phish.net had a great recent post about how to obtain scalper software at the low low cost of about 4k. Personally I think we should get some of us together pitch in and buy the software, get great seats, sell them to our friends or put them on Cash or Trade, and beat the scalpers at their own game. Time to stop bitching and do something about the problem. Leave us a voicemail and let us know if your interested in pitching in. 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.

In other Phish news 2/17/90 has been posted onto youtube and includes almost 2 hours of footage. If you’ve got some time to kill we recommend checking it out, remember it’s 1990 in the video so the quality is what it is but it’s been remastered so it looks pretty damn good for being that old. Check it out!

If you’re into drinking beer and who isn’t, you need to check out this cool new service that allows you to tweet a beer to a friend and paypal the money to cover it. We thought “hey we like beer” and “hey this is pretty cool” so we decided to include it in this weeks episode. Have fun tweeting and drinking!

Moe.down is celebrating their 13th festival and can you believe there’s been 13 of them? We were kind of taking back there has been so many but I guess time flies when you’re jamming out. The are returning to their original location of Snow Ridge, NY this summer. If you got the means and the ways we recommend you check out Moe.down!

So somehow we stumbled across this site called ThisIsMyJam.com and thought it was interesting. It’s similar to Spotify in you can create a playlist but the premise for this site seems to be that your play list is only one song? Not sure what else the site is all about, feel free to check it out and give us feedback if you like, don’t like, or if you know more than we do.

Rock n’ Roll Resort is going on again this year and it looks like Sphongle is headlining. Steve and Laura went last year and had a good time, the venue has changed this year so we’re not sure how that will affect things but it’s sure to be a good time if you’re into the untz.

We had a few great voicemails this week, thanks to those that took the time to leave us a lot report. Remember to give us an update on the shows you attend and tell us about the scene! Thank you to all our listeners we really appreciate your support, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 99: 99 Episodes of TWoL on the Blog

Listen to Episode 99

Four hosts, Steve, Emilie, Toonces and Katie, came out to celebrate our 99th Episode tonight.  In case you missed his awesome special report from the boat Steve gave us a quick rundown of his Jamcruise experience.  Dressing up at shows people, it’s the new black.

We quickly moved on to Emilie so she could run out and catch the superfly Rick James & the Name Changers.  Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook to hear updates from all her upcoming New England area shows.

Next Steve and I talked about the Umphrey’s McGee 14th Anniversary run last week in NYC.  Umphrey’s is on fire right now, if the scarcity of tickets outside was any indication.  Toonces also reported what sounds like a fantastic Railroad Earth show down in Virginia last weekend.

We had one voicemail this week, discussing a rather unfortunate experience in NYC following the YEMSG run.  We wanna hear about your 2012 shows!  Call us anytime at 419.NO.WOOKS.

Finally, of course, we discussed Phish rumors.  With so many floating around right now (Bethel, Atlantic City, Vegas…) who knows what is true.  But it is probably time to start booking refundable hotel rooms!  Also, it’s time to start planning your summer festival schedule.  On the TWoL radar:  Camp Bisco, Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes and Floyd Fest.  Finally, we look ahead to 2013. These kids wanna go to Mayan Holidaze and need an in!  Let’s make a deal…

‘Til next week, rage on!

Special Report: Jam Cruise 10

Listen to Special Report – Jamcruise 10

Well, TWoL is back on land and we are happy to report that a great time was had by all. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Scott Bernstein from Hidden Track and Neil “The Joker” FonteYes from Coventry Music Blog in my balcony cabin on the final day of the cruise. The three of us covered a little slice of everything: from the pre-shows in Fort Lauderdale, to the layout of the stages, to the ports of call, and of course the musical highlights. We all had been on the boat before, and as is popular opinion, agreed this was the “best year yet.” No surprise, we ultimately recommend that everyone goes at least once. However, that doesn’t mean this episode is all fluff. There is always room for some improvement, and we end the episode with advice for newbies and what we would like to see different in the coming years.

Were you on Jam Cruise also? Leave us your thoughts below or send us a voicemail at 419-669-6657 to be played on the next episode. Please enjoy the gallery of some pics that I took below, and be sure to check the last post for some other thoughts and more photos.

Thanks for listening,

Steve

TWoL on a Boat: Jam Cruise Update

Howdy TWoLers!

Katie here, just got an update from Steve and Noob Laura who are currently pulling away from Jamaica on Jam Cruise.  Steve sent along a ton of pictures and a few quick impressions of the music to whet our appetites before he can give his full report next week.

Seems like boat life is pretty sweet.  A room at the back of the boat with a balcony is a win.  Food situation is acceptable, better than anticipated.

Night 1 featured Break Science, Umphrey’s, Heavy Pets and Lettuce.

On Day 2 there were a variety of panels and plenty of time for the gang to play with moogs and theramins (amazing!).  Zach Deputy played with members of Toubab Krewe and Railroad Earth, but Galactic and EOTO apparently owned Night 2, which also featured a zebra theme.

Day 3 the boat hit Haiti.  Musical highlights included the Omega Moos, Ozomatli with Karl Denson, Soulive, Col. Bruce Hampton holding it down in the Jam Room, and Trombone Shorty.

That’s all for now kids but there’s plenty more Jam Cruise to come.  We’ll keep you posted with any more updates in case you weren’t all jealous enough already.

Rage on!

Katie

Episode 94: A Canadian, A Chick, and a Wife-Beater

Listen to Episode 94

This week on lot, the podcast moved into the future and used our video capabilities during the show.  Much to our dismay, this means we learned that Nick’s lucky show attire is a “wife-beater.”  An American choice for sure, but now I have that image forever burned into my brain.

Excitingly, we also had a special guest this week:  Andrew (aka “the Canadian”) from Glow Stick Wars!  For those of you who have been living under a rock, Glow Stick Wars has one Phish NYE ticket that they are giving away.  Check out the contest rules here.  Andrew also weighed on more general issues surrounding glow sticks, including the plan to have a Pre-Show Glow Stick War on the 28th as the boys hit the stage and the debate over the environmental side effects of glow stick wars.

Moving right along to Steve’s favorite topic:  Jamcruise.  The schedule is up!  Check out the themes, special events, activities, workshops and more.

YEMSG after parties are being announced almost daily at this point but make sure to check out Dog Gone Blog’s after party with Superhuman Happiness at the Cakeshop on December 30th.

In Umphrey’s news, the band announced a string of 2012 tour dates across the country for February and March as well as a sUMmer school event in August.  This camping event, aimed at aspiring musicians, will feature workshops with the band as well as performances by them.

Surrender to the Flow will be hosting Phish Yoga in NYC this Thursday, November 17th.  Get your mind and body right for YEMSG for just $20.

Rounding out the episode we learned that all our hosts have been lame for the last few weeks but you guys have not.  Thanks as always for the great voicemails!  Remember kids, the number is 419.NO.WOOKS.  Keep us posted!

‘Til next week, peace!

TWoL 81: Something Witty

Listen to Episode 81

This week it’s guys night out on TWoL! Noob Laura and Emilie had prior engagements so Steve, Nick, and Toonces are your hosts.

Toonces just got back from Gathering of the Vibes and he runs through the whole experience from ticket taking, to the scene, to what not to do if you’re a ticketless wook. Apparently GOTV does not put up with any wookery when it comes to tickets which makes me pretty happy!

Steve and Noob Laura are heading to The Big Up festival this weekend in Ghent, NY. If you’re a fan of the untz this is the place to be. This festival is not all music either. There is a whole list of activities going on, from yoga to a talent contest, there’s always something to do. If you’re in the east coast area make sure you head to The Big Up!

Umphrey’s McGee is coming to a TWoL favorite venue for a four night stand. That’s right, UM is hitting up the Brooklyn Bowl for four nights in September. Tickets for the Friday night show is already sold out so make sure you grab some for the other nights while you can. Speaking of UM, if you haven’t checked out an UM based podcast yet?  Give this a listen >  UmpLove.

A mini TAB tour has been announced and wouldn’t you know it they are coming to the Wellmont Theater, another TWoL favorite venue. Trey hits the east coast in October for a few shows and then heads down to GA and FL for some November shows.

Thank you to everyone that left us a voice message, make sure to keep them coming! 419-NO-WOOKS is the number! Make sure to give us an update no matter what lot you’re on.

As always we appreciate all the support, make sure to listen to this weeks episode to get full details on everything listed here in the blog. We’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 70: #Umphreys

Listen to Episode 70

We spend a lot of time around here focusing on Phish and The Disco Biscuits, this week it’s all about Umphrey’s McGee!

Our guests this week are Benjamin Slayter, photograph extraordinaire, and Kevin Browning, Umphrey’s McGee engineer & producer. We talk through the UMBowl II experience with the guys and find out what it’s like to experience this unique event. For an indepth review of the show see this review with some great photographs. It’s all things UM this week, Steve and Laura even share a little love story that takes place at a UM show.

If you want to check out UM you can find their tour schedule here. It kicks off today at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, TX. If you’re out and about on this “unofficial holiday” hit up some great music and then satisfy your munchies with some BBQ.

Lastly we run through your voicemails, thank you to everyone who left us a message. Don’t forget to keep them coming, 419-NO-WOOKS is the number.

Thank you to all our supporters and fans, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 59: The Search for Jared’s Wedding Band

Listen to Episode 59

We have several guests this week and a fully packed episode!

Our first guest is Johnny from BandsThatJam.com. Johnny is one of the writers for their website and was kind enough to come on the show to discuss a recent blog that caused some controversy. BandsThatJam.com made an announcement on their website that was nearly confirming the festival and offering up very specific details. Unnamed sources close to BTJ claim that a contract has been signed and the festival will be held the weekend of July 4th. They go on to state that tickets will be $200 and include 8 sets of music starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. Johnny goes into more details about their decision to post the confirmation of the festival before Phish.com does. You’ll have to listen to the podcast for full details.

Next we speak with Steve and Jared from Groupme.com. Groupme.com is a free service that allows multiple users to set up a text group to communicate with each other. It’s an amazingly useful service and one that TWoL is excited about. We’ve used this service twice now, once in Atlantic City for the Phish Halloween run and again in NYC for the New Years Eve run. It’s a great way to send a mass text to your crew by texting one number. It’s really easy to use if you can text from your phone you can use this service. The Groupme guys are on their way up, they’ve been involved as a mobile partner for the Austin City Limits festival as well as the Coachella festival. We can’t wait to see what they do next!

Rumors! Rumors! Rumors! There’s a lot of rumors surrounding the jamband community right now. Most of them are related to Phish and Dave Matthews Band. DMB and Phish are both rumored to be playing a music festival in Atlantic City this summer. Check out a link to the festival announcement here. With the Watkins Glen, NY rumor we covered earlier we’re pretty hesitant to say Phish will play but stranger things have happened.

Page and Fishman will be playing a benefit at Higher Ground in Vermont on February 3rd. The benefit is for Pete’s Greens, an organic farm that was recent damaged but a fire. Many other Vermont musicians are also rumored to be playing the benefit.

Florida is also getting in on the festival scene with the 15th annual Suwannee Springfest. This festival is packed full of lots of great bluegrass bands. If you’re in the area make sure to hit this festival and don’t forget to leave us a lot report!

In untz news, The Disco Biscuits have been listed in the lineup for the Ultra Music Festival. This festival includes many different acts, there’s something for everyone. For details on the festival and for tickets check out this link.

We received a heads up on this YouTube video poking fun at “Bro’s” from one of our listeners. We thought it was pretty funny so here’s a link if you want to check it out.

Last but never least we run through voicemails for this week. Thank you to everyone who left us a voicemail! We can’t be everywhere at once so make sure when you’re out on the scene you let us know what’s going on. 419-NO-WOOKS (419-669-6657) is the number program it in your phone.

Thank you again to our guests, Johnny, Steve, and Jared! Thank you also to all of our listeners, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 58: Check it out, we’re checking in!

Listen to Episode 58

There’s a lot of news going on this week so let’s get right to it!

First and foremost we’re very excited to announce the launch of our brand page on Foursquare! Now when you check into your favorite venues in NYC,  Las Vegas, San Francisco, and beyond, you can see tips from TWoL. As we continue to travel and visit new lots, venues, hotels, and restaurants we will add more tips at different locations. If you have a tip on a particular venue you would like us to add leave us a voicemail or email us and we’ll get it done!

As we were perusing the internet this week we discovered the h3ttiest drink coming to a lot near you. Although it’s super h3tty I wouldn’t expect to find it on lot priced at 2 for $5. Check out this link to see what drink we’re talking about and why the cost is going to price out the wooks.

Switching gears to music news we found out that after 12+ years Umphrey’s McGee producer Kevin Browning is taking on a new role at the UM headquarters. Taking his place will be Chris Mitchell a former Navy nuclear engineer with 15 yrs experience in the sound business. Good luck Kevin and welcome Chris!

It’s rumorville right now and as always the Phish rumors don’t disappoint. One rumor is that Phish is going to perform at some unnamed summer festivals. Part of the rumor also says that DMB would be playing at these same festivals. Our friends at Coventry Music Blog put up a sad yet funny old video of Trey playing with Dave from DMB. You can view this “nostalgic” footage over at Coventry Music Blog.

Some sad news about STS9 as they had to cancel their winter tour. Murph has been diagnosed with cancer and will be taking some time off for treatment and recovery. We wish him all the best, get well soon!

After the 3 previous stories we thought we would lighten the mood up a bit by talking about a hilarious story posted on christwire.com. Apparently “The Phish” is running America in more ways than one! The best part of this obviously fake site is that so many people believe it’s real. It just goes to show don’t piss off hippies or they will make idle threats on your blog post comments.

In Grateful Dead news some fans are upset at the $450 cost of a new Europe 72 box set that contains 60 CDs. They aren’t upset at the cost of $450 but that the original 7,200 box sets with special casing, artwork, and other surprises sold out and the new orders will still cost $450 but sans any frills. If you weren’t luck enough to get one of the 7,200 originals it sounds like you’re shit out of luck.

Trey Anastasio will back on tour and from the reports we’ve been getting the tour was an instant sellout. Tickets are already available on the secondary market. Our advice is to hold out, most likely you can get a ticket for face on lot.

Mike Gordon is also going to be on tour, his ticket sales seem to have gone the opposite of Trey’s. Currently as I’m typing this blog post it appears the only shows that are sold out are the Brooklyn Bowl shows. There’s still plenty of time but we imagine this won’t be a hard ticket either.

Last but never least we also run through your voicemails. Thank you to everyone who left one and thank you to all of our supporters, we’ll see you next week on lot!

TWoL 20: So I heard…

So I heard… Steve saw the The Disco Biscuits, Tea Leaf Green, and Galactic. He gives a rundown of the scene and the lot for each.

Turns out so I heard there’s a lot of rumors flying around about Phish tour for Summer and beyond. There’s still talk of a Euro or even Japan tour, and of course there’s also the American cities being named. The only one that holds an “announced” possibility right now is Telluride. It’s listed here in the Denver Post. They admit they’re still working on a deal but it may be possible.

Also apparently if you didn’t know The Disco Biscuits are selling themselves out for unspeakable pleasures and mindless activities. See all that they have to offer here. Nothing says I love you like Barber sleeping under your bed.

One more thing; so I heard that UM is having a UMBowl2010 where you can vote for the first acoustic songs to be played in the first quarter.  After that it’s still up in the air.

TWoL 15: A Shiftload of Phish

Even though Trey told us to cool out until next Summer, we’re all still buzzing about Phish and the crazy year that was 2009. We just can’t get enough. So to keep us warm and cozy through the next 5 (or 6?!) months of bleek non-Phish existence, our good friend @EricWyman put together an amazing playlist of the Best Jams of 2009. With the help of nearly everyone on Twitter, Eric collected votes on the best jams (or songs) from all three tours, Hampton, Fest 8, and New Years. There was so much to choose from but the votes made it pretty clear which jams were the best of the best. Listen to hear which jam reigned supreme over the goodness that was 2009. Granted, you can’t really ever boil it down to just one song, right? So Eric and friends put together over 7 hours of amazing Phish for our listening pleasure. For all you cubicle monkeys, you can start this playlist first thing in the morning and rock out your entire shift at work. Not that you don’t do that already, we’re sure…

You can stream or download the entire playlist and let us know what you think. Also, check out the votes from the twitter and phish.net community. Anything on there you agree or disagree with?

Still looking back fondly at 2009, we address the best and worst lots of the year. We unanimously agree on the worst of the year. We’ll give you one hint: our personal space was definitely invaded and we did not enjoy it. The best lot? We all disagree but that’s a good thing, right? If the overall lot scene of 2009 was good, then win for all of us!

After the break, we look ahead at the multitude of tours in the next few months. It seems every jam band is on the road and is coming to your town (yea, even to Iowa). We have the Trey Anastasio Band sticking pretty close to the east coast, not showing any love to the west coast fans much to Nick’s dismay. It’s great to have our beloved ginger back on the road, but do the tickets need to cost so damn much? It’s because he’s bringing the horns, isn’t it? If you’ve had enough ginger in your life, you could always join Laura and Steve on the Disco Biscuits tour. Again, Brownie and the band are staying primarily on the east coast, with the exception of 4 dates in Denver and Bisco Inferno in May. This tour is going to be HOT and we can’t wait. And if that wasn’t enough for you, moe. is practically going everywhere in the next few months. Everywhere. And somehow they seem to be the first band to cater to their visual learning fans and put up a pretty sweet moe.map on their website. Check ‘em out. Need more options? How about Umphrey’s, Galactic, or Tea Leaf Green? Moral of the story? We had better be getting some lot reports from you brah and sisbrahs in the next few months because there is some music to be seen.

Speaking of lot reports, we got a fresh lot report from our good friend and part-time Ocelot @zippyhybrid. We met this cat and his girl at Fest8 and they are good people. Zippy is hitting us up from the NYE Yonder Mountain show.

All in all? We have so much to dwell on from last year but even more ahead of us this year. Happy 2010 kids! See you on lot!

TWoL 10: Slap the Bag

Ok, kids…we’re back and we’re in the midst of Phall Ter! What better time to join us on lot?

We’re joined by our very special ginger friend Kat. She’s here to share all her great stories about the Work Exchange Program at Fest8 and who she got to meet before the festival began.

With some more current Phish lot news, we turn to Steve and Kat who were holding it down in Syracuse on Sunday night. Great lot, great vibe, great Mexican Grilled Cheese. Listen to hear what Steve rates this lot…although since when do we have a rating system? “This lot gets 6 out of 10 Brahs.”

Nick, Steve, Laura, and Kat discuss fluctuating ticket prices along tour and how phans all live by different moral codes when it comes to paying face or not. Is it a shady move to try to profit off tickets? Would you buy from someone on lot even if the show isn’t sold out? Tell us your Ticket Moral Code!

After the break, which features our great sponsor, Olker’s Wine Bar: Supporting his Phish Habit Since Syracuse, we have a little bit of news for you! The Bridge, an up and coming (not really…) jam band from Baltimore is playing free shows every Monday in December in NYC. Also, free beer and vodka. Nick is right when he laments “Well, if that’s not an open invitation to wooks…!”

Last but not least, we have a winner!! Listen to the podcast to hear if you won the MSG ticket give away. Thanks to everyone that entered.

Now…who has MSG tickets for Kat and Laura? We’ll wear glitter and fairy wings!

TWoL 9: Ummmmm

As we gear up to hit as many lots as possible on Phish Fall Tour, we’re coming at you with some random news from across the jam band scenes.

We just can’t seem to shake Fest 8, it’s haunting us like any good Halloween show should! Hidden Track published Best Costumes at Festival 8 and we just cannot disagree with the profoundly impeccable taste of one Mr. Scott Bernstein. Be sure to check out #6 and put some faces to the voices you hear every week!

In other Phish news, we have the most recent ticket prices for shows on Fall tour. From the absurdly cheap ($10?!?!) to the not so absurdly cheap, ticket prices are looking much different as Phish 3.0 rolls on.

We here at This Week on Lot are all about expanding our musical horizons. We’re always happy to hear new bands and pass the good ones your way. This week, we have the band Must Stash Hat for you to sample and explore. Check ‘em out!

As if Umphrey’s McGee didn’t have enough members in their band, their 3 day run at the Higher Ground in Burlington showcased 4 guest musicians. The most prominent guest, Mr. Micheal Gordon of the Phish from Vermont, sat in for a 16+ minute jam at his alleged favorite venue.

Update: Our friend and yours, Willie Pritts of the Church of Universal Love and Music is officially shut down in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Granted, we didn’t get the name of the establishment right in the podcast (we’re tired and Steve’s drinking vodka…give us a break!), we LOVE this place and wish Mr. Pritts the best of luck in finding a new venue for his congregation.

And last but not least, we need to start making our NYE plans. Will we have TWoL: Fiji? TWoL: Miami? TWoL: NYC? Well, we don’t have $4200 each so there goes Fiji. But maybe if we start saving now….?

Don’t forget to enter our MSG Phish ticket giveaway! We’ll see you on lot!

Sponsor for this this week is PhanArt.net. Be sure to stop by and tell them we sent you.

Our “Musical Shout Out” this week was Must Stash Hat. Check em out, they are from Canada, friend.
